Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

We bought a farm and started learning about farming in 2020 after a good friend of ours passed away from cancer and we started talking through what it would look like to try something we've always wanted to try. We knew nothing about it previously so welcome to our adventure! There are a lot of camping spots on our property and you can choose anywhere you'd like. The top of our ridge called "soil road" used to be the main traveling path back in the settler days. The house at the bottom of our driveway used to be the towns post office, and there is a cave back on the creek where soldiers during the civil war camped out in. We are a working farm during the day so if you choose to walk down the ridge you'll find outside working with the animals or in the flower or produce garden. There is a lot of great fishing in the creek so make sure to bring your rod! We love pets so yours are welcome, and there are a lot of hiking trails and cute towns around us. Learn more about this land: A quiet very private experience on a farm with 180 Blue Ridge Mountain views on top of the ridge or walk down our trail to camp and trout fish on Rock Castle Creek. With clear stars, fireflies everywhere, and a cozy fire, what more could you ask for? Our whole 54 acres is yours to explore during the day to swim in the creek, see our farm animals or take a quick drive to the many surrounding lakes, hiking trails and local towns. We love living simply, and immersed in nature, and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. Maybe you will too! You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frog chorus, and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks. Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping. We are a growing homestead. We are planting fruits trees, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, raising ducks and tending gardens here and have farm fresh products that are seasonally available to guests just ask! What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. We also house horses/ponies/ goats/sheep/geese/ducks & chickens here on the farm. We are located 4 miles from downtown Lewisburg which has wonderful stores, antique shops and restaurants. There is a lot of great fishing in the creek so make sure to bring your rod! We love pets so yours are welcome, and there are a lot of hiking trails and cute towns around us. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved our stay at Creekside Woods. The location right by the creek was incredible! Literally some of the clearest, most majestic water I’ve ever seen. It made the whole campsite feel peaceful and almost magical. We were also just minutes away from multiple entry points to the Appalachian Trail and close to iconic hikes like Dragon’s Tooth and McAfee Knob, which made the trip even better (and made me realize how out of shape I was :D). The campsite itself felt surprisingly secluded, even with the leaves down, giving us plenty of privacy and quiet time to recharge. The hosts were super accommodating and responsive, making everything from check-in to checkout seamless. Overall, we had an amazing experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing nature getaway.

Weekend Trip to Camp The New River, Blacksburg, VA
This was a great spot to set up for the weekend. Ample, flat space. The stand up bar was extremely useful and well thought out. The fire pit was a great size. We let the hosts know ahead of time that we were interested in purchasing firewood and they had it waiting for us, and they covered it from the weather. Port-a-potty close by and it was what you’d expect, well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. The river view was awesome and there was so much wildlife to see, and we were lucky enough to spot an otter. Recommend! Worth noting: -the drive down to the site is steep and a mix of gravel and pavement and finishing in grass, there is lots of hipcamp signage but heads up -the train tracks are active and close

Great site, we will be back again. The tent sites and cabins look amazing. We stayed in the RV site with electric and water. It was easy to get to and set up. The only negative is that you are close to the road and get the traffic noise. There is lots of room to roam and let kids and dogs play.

Fantastic Stay – Highly Recommend! We had an amazing experience at this camp! Adam was an outstanding host, super responsive, and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. The campsite (Woodpecker1) itself was peaceful, clean, and well maintained, with all the facilities in top shape. You can tell a lot of care goes into keeping the place welcoming and comfortable. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway or a convenient base for exploring the area, this spot is perfect. Thanks again to Adam for being such an accommodating and thoughtful host. We’ll definitely be back!

Actually stayed at tentsite #3.... Adam was very accommodating to my date change and even suggested the tent site for car camping. Great site and amazing to have restroom and shower so close. Good wifi signal at the rec room and even reached my site.

Thoroughly enjoyed camping at Butterfly 1. The host was flexible with parking when we explained we were there for a driving trip and might need to park 5 cars there. Cool spot with a stream running nearby, a couple nearby camp sites for a somewhat communal feeling and overall great stay. Would recommend and may stay there next year for the first leg of our next journey!

April and Carl are the kindest most accommodating hosts we have ever had! The campsite view was absolutely stunning and the proximity to downtown Lewisburg, Fayetteville and New River Gorge made it the perfect camping spot. If you’re looking to avoid crowds and cramped camp sites we definitely recommend this location!
