Wolftrap Farm was owned by James & Dolley Madison during their time, and they called it Black Meadow. Their home, Montpelier, is just across the mountains you see from the campsite. It passed through the hands of various local farmers during the 19th & 20th centuries, and for many years was a dairy farm. It became primarily a horse farm in the 1970's, when it was owned by the German Von Wulffen family.The Cuthrell family from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area acquired the farm in 2003 and converted it to a resort farm, featuring upscale vacation homes. Welcome to our one-acre homestead retreat! This is a relaxed “anything goes” subdivision where neighbors tend to have active gardens, orchards, and homesteads.
On the north side of the property, you’ll find our thriving fruit orchard with five varieties of apple trees, three types of peaches, three plum trees, two cherries, three pears, three persimmons, two pomegranate bushes, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, haskaps, Aronia berries, and even young chestnut and hazelnut trees.
On the opposite side, adventure awaits with a 120-foot zipline running from a mature maple to an enormous tulip poplar. Beneath the poplar tree, we’ve set up multiple swings and a 50-foot climbing rope for extra fun.
At the heart of the property, you’ll find a 16-foot trampoline and a cozy fire pit—the perfect spot to gather in the evenings.

The yurt at fairy glen is lovely! Though it rained on our stay, we still loved it and felt cozy, especially with the rain sound. The birds were amazing as our alarm clock in the morning. The property is so nice and we got their pretty black cat as our tour guide! We will definitely come back! 😌

We had an excellent experience staying in the canvas tent at The Garden Patch. The space is wonderfully secluded, tucked away in the beautiful Shenandoah mountains, and the host gave me all of the guidance to get there safely and set up quickly. The tent itself was perfectly set up—the furnishings were cozy, featuring a large bed with comfortable flannel sheets and a beautiful wood stove, which went a long way in keeping us warm during the colder weather. I would love to come back in better weather to truly enjoy the outdoor space.
I do have a helpful note for future visitors: the road leading to The Garden Patch is rocky and unpaved. If you are driving a vehicle like a loaded-down minivan, please take this into consideration.
Lastly, we were sweetly greeted by a gorgeous shepherd pup both before settling in and when we were leaving in the morning. He was quite friendly, though I did have to bribe him with a treat so he wouldn't get stuck behind the gate as we drove off! Overall, a truly memorable and highly recommended stay.

I made it to the site right as a big storm was rolling through, barely threw my bags and dog into the tent before the skies opened up. Heavy rain on the tent was pretty loud, but I stayed dry and cozy and since my campfire plans were dashed, was so grateful to have the wood stove inside to still get some crackling wood and warm glow - and also to heat up my apple cider! Michael was quick and responsive to messages, his directions were clear, and I very much enjoyed my quick stay in the spacious and comfortable tent!

My two dogs and I had a lovely night under the stars in the yurt. The bed was super cozy and comfortable. Everything was clean and well maintained. He left a book to read and a lamp and other thoughtful touches. The directions and instructions were all very clear.

Weekend Trip to Fairy Glen Farm
Loved spending a glamping weekend at Sue’s! It’s nestled in the middle of many hiking trails, the Woodstock tower, and wineries. The yurt itself is incredibly comfortable, and the A/C unit is a dream. Sue met us at arrival and was super friendly and walked us through all the supplies they had available to make the camping weekend perfect.

This was such a diamond in the rough! The bed was very comfortable and even though it was cold when we stayed here, we stayed warm in the tent. Michael had firewood available for purchase if we wanted to use the wood stove as well. The property was very nice, it had a nice outhouse too! Michael had a fire pit with some precut wood for us to burn so we enjoyed sitting around the fire in the evening. We received very detailed instructions before we arrived which made it easy to find out where to go and it was very peaceful. My husband and I are both pretty introverted so we enjoyed that we had the place to ourselves and checked ourselves in! Thank you again for the wonderful stay, 5/5 stars!!

The gravel road through the neighborhood is 2WD friendly. The property was super easy to find, especially with the owner’s great communication. Unfortunately it was a rainy night and we couldn’t enjoy the prepped fire pit, but maybe we will just come back one day! Area was nice and quiet. We did enjoy the freshly built outhouse and the outdoor sink. The tent was most certainly waterproof and very roomy. The queen bed was freshly made up and provided a comfortable night’s sleep. The perfect place to rest after a long drive, or spend the weekend with the kids. Several swings, and things to play on for them. Plenty of food options within 5-10 minutes drive too.

Great site, quiet and spacious, beautiful views of the mountains. Clean restroom/shower facilities conveniently located near tent. Tent setup was very comfortable with a bed, a/c, grill, table. Quiet, and loved having the horses nearby. Glad that there was a fridge to keep perishables, and other supplies like plates, etc. Ladies room was awesome.

The trickle of the freshwater creek, the flitter of the redwing blackbird and the cardinal pair over the small pond, the rhythmic croaks of the bullfrogs, the chatter of the chickens on the hillside, and the utter quiet of just before dawn proved to be a welcome backdrop for our family’s 4th of July weekend. Our hosts’ genuine graciousness came naturally to them. This is a beautiful farm. The setting was very peaceful. It was really cool having access to a full kitchen within just a few steps. The showers and restrooms were clean and convenient! As it ended up being near record breaking temps during our stay- our host Tina had the AC running in the tent, ahead of our arrival to help cool it down a bit. We look forward to visiting Wolftrap Farm during the fall season!
