Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress! This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well. Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The Rockfish River dam and quarry gardens are really cool too!

Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs. When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting. Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river. Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer. Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish. This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond. Come, enjoy and make some memories! Children 10 and under are free On the other side of the river you might hear a train passing by at different times, both, day and night. 1 night at Ammon Creek Farm

This is a rustic little spot about 15 minutes off Rt. 460 in central VA. No amenities, so bring everything you will need, but Merritt was responsive and quite hospitable. The land is privately located among a small hardwood tree grove, but has nice pond views to one side and fields on 2 other sides. Merritt and his wife are lovely people and fascinating to talk to.

Gate removed, signs changed, but I keep this as a reminder of the day we decided to retire back here. "REDUCED SPEED AHEAD" was the sign we needed!

Weekend Trip to Seven Islands River Front Campsites

My partner took me camping for my birthday and he chose the site. The view was spectacular and the hosts were very friendly! There is a really cool train that passes on the other side of the water, and it is so cool to watch. We got a bundle of wood, and it lasted us all weekend. I was on site 2, and the only suggestion I might make is to perhaps make stairs going down to the water level area. I'll be back for sure!

Weekend Trip to Southern Revere Vineyard & Farm

We enjoyed our stay on this property! The archers den campsite felt very private and had plenty of space. We loved the big fire pit with cooking grate.. The three campsites are far enough away from the winery/brewery that you don’t feel like you are camping at public business. Even though they had live music playing and seemed pretty busy we could barely hear anything going on. Weekend Trip to Southern Revere Vineyard & Farm

Our group loved staying at Archer’s Den at Southern Revere Cellars. We really enjoyed the fact that our spot was hidden away from guests at the tasting barn, but if we wanted to the barn was an easy walk away to try the wine and beer. The fire pit they provide is a really nice touch and communication with the host was easy and timely. The only recommendation we have is to bring in bigger signage for each campsite. We totally missed the small sign/arrow for our campsite so we had to ask the host for the location. Overall great time and we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Camp Cove Creek

This was the second time staying Camp Cove Creek and just like the first it did not disappoint. We love hearing the cows, horses and coyotes. The creek is so peaceful, we really need to return when it’s warm and we can enjoy it more.

Fascinating place. Quiet. Took a few minutes to find a level spot, because we didn’t want to drag out the leveling blocks. Lots of acreage to explore. Had no problem finding wood for the campfire. Un-hooking the tow vehicle on site was a little tough … next time we’ll do that off site.

Weekend Trip to Warren Ferry Landing

An amazing campsite along the James River, very private and well appointed with great fire pit, picnic table, fire wood if needed, and port-potty. Dogs loved the river and beautiful sunrise. Train across the river a few times each day/night which we considered a plus. Lots of wildlife to hear at night.... cows, owls and surprisingly coyotes!!!! Close proximity to great hiking, vineyards, and breweries. We will be back.

Weekend Trip to Camping at Cloverdale Farms

What a charming and peaceful property! They have the sweetest animals and a beautiful garden. It was nice to have a restroom and shower nearby. Great spacious camp site. We really appreciated the canopy that was set up for us because the sun was hot during the day, and there was plenty of firewood available to keep us warm at night. Karen made us feel so welcome and made sure we had everything we needed, including jumper cables when one of our cars wouldn’t start. AMAZING spot for stargazing!

Weekend Trip to Southern Revere Vineyard & Farm

Southern Revere Brewery and Vineyard are simply amazing. We loved every part of their property and their campsites were terrific. Each site was tucked away to give you the privacy you may want. At the same time if you have some friends camping out with you the spaces are large enough to accommodate. We participated in the tastings on Saturday evening. The staff were super friendly, the band was great and a lot of people were out there having lots of fun. We liked that they have a dog park, a playground for younger children, a small enclosure where they had some goats. We enjoyed walking the property. Many parts of the property have remained natural that provided many different viewscapes. All in all it was a great find and one that we will definitely be back and bring some friends with us, too. Wow. What an amazing mountains gateway for our family. If you’re looking for a place that isn’t crowded and makes you feel like you’re really living on the land…then this is spot. Our family really enjoyed the 4x4 driving to our spot, the property, the cows on the ridge, and the passing by trains. It was exactly what we were looking for: mountain camping without the crowds. Thanks John for sharing your property, firewood, and stories with us! Loved the native plants and pollinator friendly gardens throughout the property. We will be back!

Beautiful property! We took another campers advice and camped by the Christmas trees up on the hilltop to get the full Mountain View’s. There were only 1-2 other campers/RVs on the whole property, it was extremely peaceful and great for stargazing at night. We will be back with our dog again!

Host responds and communicates! It was a pleasure communicating. He had clear instructions of primitive site location. Close to liberty university. I didn’t get to stay because my friend offered an Airbnb for free so this was a last minute change in plans. I did not stay overnight but host was a pleasure to work with and seem flexible with checkin times.

2 nights at Seven Islands River Front Campsites

Beautiful campsite right on the water!! We stayed at Site 3 for 2 nights. There was a lot of privacy between the other site, pretty secluded.. Nice open field, everything was maintained very well, marked clearly. Mixed of wooden surroundings with a small path down to the river. Had a chance to met the host, very welcoming. Would definitely return with no concerns.
