Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. Amazing location! Beautiful, peaceful and private. Perfect sound of the water flowing over the rocks easily helped us fall asleep. We stayed at site #3 by the River. I would recommend backing down the lane. There’s no turnaround area for full size trucks. Ours is Chevrolet 2500 HD. There’s a slight hill to walk down to camp, no problem for us (maybe 15-20 ft),. Tacoma or 4Runner wouldn’t have a problem in 4WD going down the hill to level site. Our host was very accommodating. We will definitely come back!

Absolutely loved it here! The view was incredible, and it was so peaceful. Loved hearing all the animals, and waking up to a field of horses behind our campsite was just the coolest. The bath/shower house was the best bonus! Our hosts were kind and patient as we arrived later than expected (but still made it right at the latest check-in time). Cheryl provided excellent directions which made it easy to find!

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

This was an introduction to camping for our six year old, and he loved it! The yurt and campsite came with everything we needed to enjoy the outdoors while having creature comforts, and the communal trailer was nice to have to check-in with family. We didn’t need anything, but the camp store was also stocked with bare essentials in the event you leave something behind. The site was very private, and Beau, Leah, and the other guests were friendly. We hope to make it back to Beaverfalls again!

Weekend Trip to Hippie Hollow

This is a special place. The small campground is nestled along a creek just outside of Floyd. There are fire pits and picnic tables at each site. However, there is a large communal firepit, an outdoor kitchen, and stage in the center of the campground that invites people to come together. It was chilly the night we arrived and one of the guys built an awesome bonfire in the communal firepit. Instead of everyone being at their own campsites, the bonfire brought people together while we listened to music on the stage. The campground is also dog friendly, with well-trained dogs roaming off leash in little packs running about. There was a nice social atmosphere. Everyone at the campground was chill. There's also a small shower house with flush toilet and hot water. Jeremy's spot is real nice.

3 nights at Savage Acres on Craig Creek

So enjoyable! 10/10! Accommodating host for needs upon arrival and was there if needed after. The Maple Knoll area was enchanting - we were lucky to have such a gorgeous view of the 3rd day past Harvest Moon and the colors of the trees were doing their amazing change from - day 1 to day 4 it was pretty noticeable. Even some novice campers were with us and they had a pleasant time. We made buttermilk pancakes one morning and Savage Acres maple syrup now holds my top favorite, so glad I added that extra! We will definitely return in the warm months to enjoy the private swim hole with the gorgeous rock formation. So happy to have found such a pleasant camping spot in Savage Acres as our first booking on HipCamp.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls

The entire property looks well run, the waterfall is pretty & you can hear it from the text, It was very moist out, as expected this time of year. We paid extra for bedding & it was totally worth it to arrive with the bed made. The bedding was perfect, very comfortable. The only negative at all is the text does have mold & just needs a routine power wash, not a big deal. Would definitely recommend! The leaves have started to change at that elevation and it was gorgeous!

It was a nice, quiet site right beside a babbling brook. It beats camping in the middle of dozens of huge and noisy homes on wheels. Only about three minutes from Floyd, which was handy. Several dogs had free run of the campsite, but they all seemed friendly. Only one person can be in the bathroom at a time, which was slightly inconvenient, but it appears to be early days and there are some improvements apparently in the works.
