Honeybees are very important to the land and our farm.  At this time we do not have honeybees but hope to have hives again in the future.  For information about having your own hives, you can reach out to our good friend and Floyd neighbor, Gunther Hauk of Spikenard Farm Bee Sanctuary.

Gardens
There are several gardens with a variety of flowers and plants. You'll also find bridges, picnic area, sitting areas, trellises, gazebo, and a walking trail through the woods.

FoxDen by Heartwood Farm and Cabins

Get away from it all when you stay among nature in this secluded off-grid tiny cabin in the forest. Complete with outdoor grill, fire pit, picnic table, well maintained outhouse, miles of trails and a large swimming or fishing pond (catch and release).

This is a secluded off grid location without power, wifi, or cell service, so be prepared to UNPLUG and unwind.

Firewood for your first campfire is provided along with one tank of propane to run the indoor camp stove. Five gallons of drinking water are included with coffee and a French press. There is a cooler provided. Remember to bring ice for your groceries and sleeping bags!

Please include an extra rental fee of $20 for pets (up to 3). Multiple firewood bundles can be waiting for you at $8 each (a decent fire's worth per bundle). Extra guests (more than 2) are approved on a case by case basis for $10 each per day.

Way Up Acres and Lodging

Way Up Acres and  is a 50 acre farm. 

 You'll love meeting all the farm animals and seeing all the beautiful views around you.  If you like hiking you have plenty of room to roam around and hike our mountain.  The stars and firefly's are amazing at night.  Next door we have a marketplace with antiques and more with our country cafe.   WIFI is very limited and only available at the bath house.  If you're looking to get away from everyday life, this is the place for you.

Water Hookup

Thunder BRidge

Starting December 1,  or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. 
Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. 

Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. 

All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

Each cabin has 6 cots with mattresses. Bring your own sleeping bag/sheets/pillows

Site 1 is our only RV site with 30/50 amp hookup and water available. It has a shaded, large lot. 

Beaverdam Falls

Nestled on a private 65-acre farm in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is located on VA SR-311 (Kanawha Trail) in the Sweet Springs Valley. Nestled in the old community of Earlehurst, between Covington & Roanoke, Beaverdam Falls are an historic series of waterfalls on private property. The Falls are at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek and are the terminus for the Sweet Springs. Available for guest stays & recreation, are the Upper Falls portion. Surrounded by the verdant George Washington National Forest, the Upper Falls,  displays a constant waterfall of around 40-feet in height, & decorates the final mile stretch of the Sweet Springs, both on our property. Additional beautiful cascades pepper our tract of Beaverdam Falls as well. This private tract of unparalleled Virginia countryside will simply astonish your expectations. As the source of the Falls, Sweet Springs Creek, serves as a long, unique home for trout, calcified travertine rock, chalybeate water, and ancient beaver dams (as well as active ones!). Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! They do bite! 

Sweet Springs Creek: Campsites is are flexible, with the option to camp anywhere in the field, but we recommend near the stream! Or, you can camp in the woods surrounding the falls. 

The unusual rock formations will have you staring for hours, as one does at clouds in the sky!

Wilderness Adventure

Our campsites offer beautiful scenery, exciting activities and HOT showers! There are local on-property trails to explore and all the campsite and lodging amenities that make for the perfect family getaway!

All of our listings lie on 500 gorgeous acres run by Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing. Bordered by 500 yards of Craigs Creek along the front of our property and mountains in the rear, Wilderness Adventure offers our guests extensive trails to hike and bike, ponds for fishing and swimming, canoeing and tubing. We offer Giant Swing, Team Building, Low Ropes, High Ropes, Caving, Rock Climbing, Mountain Bike lessons and guided trips! 

Wilderness Adventure is more than just a campground or lodge. Along with our wide range of camping and lodging options, we also offer free and paid adventure activities like tubing, canoeing, hiking, biking, disc golf, and more!

W.T. Farm?

What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. 

I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose.

Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. 

Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking.

The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure!

I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. Also often there is an opportunity to work on the farm harvesting and processing food. Let me know if that is something you would like to do.

This is your approach to Holleruljah through the pear orchard. Beyond the woods drop down into another very private world where there is a small creek running through mature hardwoods, and waterfalls ranging from 6 ft to 20 feet high.

Deep in our holler is a magical woodland world. The creek rages in the spring and tapers to a trickle by late dry summer. There are a series of waterfalls and the top falls has a delightful dipping pool below it.

The newly planted nut and cider orchard. From here you can see well into Virginia. On the fourth of July I saw a hundred separate firework shows. This part of the farm is a very rigorous walk up steep terrain, or a 12 minute drive around

The Knobs is the name of our mountain and it features 3 major geological plates that collided. There is a diverse geology here from sandstone to lime and shale.

12 Gates Farms

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm.  We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road.  Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up.

 The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room.

The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s.

 We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants.

Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek.  Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail.   (Note:  You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)&nbsp; We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical  connection.  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; You may camp anywhere on the property.&nbsp; There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there.    The toilets are flushing, camping toilets with sinks.  There are currently no showers available.

Canaan Hills Campground

Primitive/ off-grid camping along the beautiful Smith River in Henry County Virginia. Toilet facilities provided, but no shower facilities available.  Easily accessible entry/exit point for kayaking or canoeing. Hiking, fishing, biking paths located within 10 miles of campground. No more than 2 parties will be on the property at one time, so you have plenty of peace and quiet in seclusion. Surrounded by woods, backed by a small stream, it's a perfect getaway from all the noise. Cell signal is extremely limited at the campsites. 

Canoe and kayak available for use while camping. Transportation available for drop-off/pickup for river trips. 

Pets are welcome, but please keep leashed. 
This is primitive camping. You may encounter wildlife such as, but not limited to bees, bears, venomous snakes, coyotes, and possible a Sasquatch. Please be prepared for all possibilities, be respectful of their home, and don't be stupid.

Blue Ridge Yurts is a woman-owned company in Floyd, Virginia, started by my mother, Sharon. We were staying at Treebones, a yurt 'glampground' in Big Sur, California, and fell in love with yurts together. My mom said, "I think I could build one of these," and the company was born!
She does all the woodworking, using sustainable practices, with locally-sourced wood, and her best friend Kathy does the fabric end of things. I was one of her early guinea pigs, and love my yurt property dearly &lt;3 This 24'  yurt sits on a beautiful private acreage off an end-state maintenance road, with biking and hiking trails just a 20 minute drive from the touristy town of Floyd, Virginia. There's a steam shower sauna, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a deck overlooking the mountains with a table and seating. Enjoy!

Savage Acres on Craig Creek

In a remote valley just north of Roanoke VA,  along the banks of Craig's Creek, the property includes mature hardwood forest, pasture, and an 1830s log cabin where we live. We love to share this special place with visitors, and have some basic amenities for campers. The campsites are at the edge of a large pasture and just a few steps from the creek and our big swimmin' hole. Totally secluded in a remote valley - barely a house in sight (but our cabin is a short walk through the woods if you need something), no cell service for most providers, but within a short drive of Roanoke and Blacksburg, and countless outdoor recreation opportunities.

This pool is located a short driving distance away on property.

Spring Valley’s Tiny House

Spring Valley Farm was established in 1980 by Mr.Simmons and his wife. Since then they have two thriving herds of cattle, raised countless piglets, and rehomed many horses to their forever homes. Though Mr & Mrs.Simmons are still alive; his son Chad Simmons, and his wife Michelle Simmons, run the business.
