10/9/2024 NOTICE: We had some damage to our road due to Hurricane Helene that made it impassable. It has since been repaired and is opened to traffic. There are still some remaining rough areas, but the road is easily passable by passenger vehicles and RV's up to 28ft. Our site was once part of a much larger farm growing tobacco and raising cattle and other farm animals. The existing tobacco barn was built in the early 1960's. The concrete pad used for RV camping was used to store silage for the cows. The non-potable water source is a mountain spring that has been used on the farm since the 1930's. While many tobacco barns in the area have been torn down for their rusted tin roofing and rustic siding, we have worked to restore the barn and preserve its history.

Milk weed and butterfly attractants will bloom in the coming month on sunrise mountain and it’s looking good! Our farm is vast and sparse, focusing on sustainability while giving back to the community. We are a safe haven for animals and humans alike. Situated on and between two peaks of Little Phoenix Mountain range in Jefferson Ashe County. Our sites’ altitudes range from 3100 feet to over 3600 feet, which is a lot of slope and hillside to say the least. As a guest you will be offered insane long views and limited exposure to the oldest registered breed of bovine in the world. Our Scottish Highland Cattle are majestic and fit in quite well in the NC mountainside. Located in the Blue Ridge mountains, we have natural water springs popping out, some of which are tapped to drink from. (10.1.23 currently farm springs are not accessible to guests, shatley springs up the road approx 4miles north has a public spring that we highly recommend) If you are looking for a camping spot that is only 5-10 minutes from town (Jefferson NC or the quaint Downtown West Jefferson) but feels like you're in the middle of no where, then we have it! The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 20 minutes away and the New River equally close. Looking Forward: July update. We are currently working on provided an all downhill mountain bike trail from 3600 to 3150ft. This path will be double wide for the most part and wide open at first to soak in the se view. Will update when completed! *a ride back up for your bike and yourself will be scheduled if requested OnTopOfTheWorld.camp *firewood is available if you pay on site you will have to use Venmo/Paypal *We do not allow any harvesting of campfire wood or burning of our property outside of the designated fire ring. We use any downed wood on our property for our family to keep warm and to cut and split ourselves to sell to our guest. Larger units must back in carefully between the guard rail and the ditch. The lot had some damage from Helene. This is a parking lot of an old church and sits by two small creeks. Maximum stays are up to 6 nights. No water, no septic. No generators are allowed.  Large concrete pad/parking lot for RV and an extra car or two. This is a campsite only, an RV is not included. We have electricity but no water or septic.  In the spring, summer, and fall - We have a toilet and hand-washing sink inside the building that you may use if you select this as an "add-on". A code to enter the building will be sent if you add this feature. This site does not have potable water and does not have a shower. The closest public bathrooms are at Valle Crucis Community Park. Mountain Dog Coffee and Holloway Corner Kitchen are private, but good places to start your day with coffee and/or food. Please respect our neighbors by limiting noise. This lot is private, but you may see or hear the neighbors. Dogs must always be on a leash when outside your RV or car.  There are no garbage cans or trash pick-up; pack it out, please. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage.  We DO NOT advise taking Clarks Creek Rd. from 105 to get to this location. You must travel to Clarks Creek through Valle Crucis via 194. You must also detach any trailer or towed items a mile or so before the camp spot and before the switchbacks. Please view the map and be comfortable with travel to our campsite. There are sections of the road with no shoulder and pit holes due to current construction/road work. There is very limited cellular service in this area. WiFi & WiFi calling should work fine. --- We have a 50 AMP Hookup NO water NO septic. If you have 2 cars, trucks or RVs in the same group you may add them on as another unit. Grandfather Mountain Campground on 105 allows non-guests to use their dump station for a fee. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage. Take the trash there before hooking up and leaving as that section of 194 has a large truck warning.

We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. In Short, it is lovely and we hope you enjoy it.

Mrs Diane was a great host and checked on us often to ensure we had everything we needed. Lovely property and loved the creek. Great for kids and pups. I parked at the RV spot with a 24ft campervan and had no issues turning around.

Michael’s site was easy to find and he was super helpful. We are traveling in February with unpredictable weather. Michael communicated with us about road conditions and even sent us some photos of the site a couple days before we arrived as it had recently snowed. The site was absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend!

If you're looking for good wholesome humans who care and love for animals and land , who allow for absolute peace and quiet and a zen environment for animals... This is the place . Come here , write a book, create a master art work, contemplate the nature of the phenomenon of aliveness . The owners of the farm are artists , farmers , skilled tradesman , bakers etc. What a place . God send indeed

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a great experience camping at Drifters Ridge. The campsite is peaceful, well-kept, and surrounded by beautiful scenery—perfect for relaxing and unplugging. The site is spacious, clean, and laid out nicely so you don’t feel crowded. It’s a quiet place at night, which made it easy to enjoy a campfire and get a good night’s rest. Keith and his wife were awesome hosts and made us feel right at home. The kids absolutely loved the tour of the farm and getting to pet the cows—it was a highlight of the trip. The location is convenient to nearby attractions while still feeling tucked away in nature. We’d definitely recommend Drifters Ridge to anyone looking for a laid-back, enjoyable camping experience and will be back again ourselves.

The Peak is amazing! Our family has camped here several times over the years and it’s hard to beat the 180° view! While it’s a tough climb up and absolutely needs 4WD, it’s well worth the effort. And once there, it’s a nice, private flat top with room to explore.

Super easy to get to. Very simple and basic spot. We came from doe mountain after riding all day and it was perfect with rain all night. Could set up several tents or pull under the carport and still fit a few tents. Host is super nice and easy to communicate with. Definitely would use it again

Had a great experience, not far away from West Jefferson or Gratsin Highlands State Park (Virginia). Host was personable and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend staying here. Also has a cabin coming soon on the same property as the camper site. The neighborhood cows were respectful of the morning and didn't start talking until they saw people.
