Retro Star Ranch is big and secluded.  Aside from a few trailers that dot the hills in the distance you are pretty much on your own.  We have 25 acres of land at the end of a private road in a secret hidden valley not far from SLC, Ogden and Eden Utah.  This land is pristine and connected to over 5000 acres of undeveloped open space.   The property is part of a recreational property subdivision.  You might see some fellow campers on quads, occasionally you might hear gunfire,  but you're more likely to see deer, fox, grouse, birds of prey, moose and possibly elk.  Not far from Causey Reservoir and the South Fork of the Ogden River both of which have great water for floating and fishing.    You could easily get here in a sedan when dry but not recommended for sports or low clearance vehicles.  If you have 4x4 that is better, especially if you want to venture to our last campsite or pull a trailer here.   We've pulled a 30' foot trailer but the road is skinny in places and the turns are tight, bumpy from cobbles and ruts and often have puddles.  There is about 2 miles of that climbs over a ridge.  If you're adventurous and a confident driver on dirt roads you will have no problem.  If it's you're first time pulling a trailer or if you have a low clearance then this might not be the spot for you.   However, if you're looking for something peaceful and secluded that is not that far from town, this is it.  We can also accommodate larger groups or multiple vehicles if desired.  Please contact us with any special requests or questions.  The Knoll site is better for trailers and larger groups.  It has a loop through driveway and can accommodate a few trailers.  Please be aware that this is wilderness camping and there are wild animals throughout the woods.  It is best to stay on trail or at the site and be alert for snakes, big cats, moose and deer.

On the topic of self-care, upon ascending the GOLD SPIRAL STAIRCASE located in the newly remodeled kitchen, you will be hugged with a unique meditation station, just outside the loft bedroom. Here there are ton's of tiny golden mirrors and some meditation floor pads, for an ideal spot to sit in contemplation and seek your most present minded self. A door-way off this room leads you into the "tree-house" feeling bedroom. The green color scheme and the skylight peering at the branches of the trees which extend over the roof in the sky, create a "tree-house like" experience. Back down on the ground level, you will find a second and third bedroom. The first one has a queen bed as well as a closet. The 3rd bedroom sleeps just one person with a twin bed and is at the back of the house. The window looking out back from here is the closest room to the hot tub/gazebo area in the backyard, which is professionally cleaned and maintained. There is a remodeled, full bath with bath tub on the ground level. This is the only bathroom in this home. The remodeled kitchen is well stocked/appointed. This backyard space has a couple outside table and chair areas, and it is the place we would as that you park during your stay, accessing it through the alley (see listing photos). The yard is fully fenced. The neighborhood is a mix of single family and multifamily dwellings and is close to Freeway entrances, minutes from restaurants, bars entertainment

Friendly dogs are very welcome - my white Lab is always looking for new friends! 3 miles down Box Elder Canyon to two large grocery stores, Walmart, gas stations, restaurants, and gyms. One hour to skiing at Snow Basin (home of 2002 Olympic downhill), Powder Mountain to the south and Beaver Mountain to the north. World's largest game bird refuge and museum 10 minutes west down the canyon. Utah State University 30 minutes to the north and Weber State University 30 minutes to the south. Box Elder Creek is a 5 minute walk into Box Elder Campground, the poppy hill (2 weeks in June), and wonderful hiking opportunities. The best description I can give of our property is that it's great for a convenient and quaint "Stop and Sleep".  This is because we are located right off of the old main highway and have two neighbors within eyesight from the house. This site is very convenient for quick stays since it is so CLOSE TO THE HIGHWAY this makes it convenient but may not be appropriate for very light sleepers or for extended stays.  The camping area is simple, with wild grass and a fire pit, bordered by the river on one side and the horse pasture on the other.  You can see and hear the river easily April-July. The river is seasonal and does dry up in mid July-August. Drinkable hose water is available near the house.  If you want a ranch-style camping experience with lots of interaction with your hosts and opportunity for adventure then you have chosen the right camping location! You are welcome to join in the daily choring activities or choose to be taken on a scenic trail ride or thrilling guided gallop on beautiful and well-trained rescue horses.PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is located in our house and has a flushable toilet and shower with hot water. Bathroom hours are 8am-9pm.  Parking is located a few hundred feet from the campsite, just off of the road.  You must walk a few hundred feet to get to the campsite and you cannot pull your vehicle right up to it. While we do welcome car campers and pop-up trailers, just know you won't be parked at the campsite if you choose to sleep this way.  We look forward to having you camp with us!

Kristine was so helpful when we needed a last minute spot to camp and had no idea where to go! This was our first time using Hipcamp and I was worried I wouldn't hear back from her promptly especially since we were only 10 minutes away when I reached out. Thank God she replied right away, reassured me that she had the perfect place for us to setup and even met us at the front door. Absolutely beautiful property with views of the mountains and privacy. It was an absolute lifesaver after two months of Boondocking across the country and never knowing what you're going to get! Thank you Kristine, we will be sure to visit again on our way back home ❤️

Great spot to stay on a cross country drive- very close to I-84. The tentsite was closer to where we parked than I anticipated which made unloading and setting up very easy - especially since we arrived after dark, which Jessie was very accommodating about. There is some road noise/light but if you’re a solid sleeper (or tired after a long drive) it won’t bother you at all. Fun to see the horses playing in the morning!

I know a lot of people seem to complain about the noise but it’s really not that bad once it gets later in the evening / during the night while sleeping. And if you’re keen on riding I’d definitely do it. Sean took me out and he’s a really sweet man. Nice to have a chat while I was on my solo road trip across the states

Jessie was very accommodating and quick to respond to any questions I had. It was a convenient and tidy campsite for what I required and it was a very unique setting. I know some people speak about the road noise but I didn't find it too bad during the sleeping hours. I would recommend, especially during the spring run off when the creek is flowing I bet its super tranquil!

It's a cozy little site, very quiet, next to a murmuring creek and a narrow footpath higher up into the beautiful nature where you can get wide views over the surrounding landscape. The host is very friendly, introduces you to the technical details and helps backing in the RV. Site is level, gravelled, between low trees/brushes. Can get cold in the night, even in August! :-)

This is a great spot with a great host. It was an easy in and out pulling a 31' travel trailer. Plenty of space to turn around. There were many spots to pick from since we were the only campers when we stayed. There was more than enough room for our dogs to get out and stretch their legs. They appreciated grass after traveling through desert for the week. The property itself pretty flat, beautiful and has a mountain view. As other reviewers have said, it's not completely private in some spots but it isn't bad to see the side of a neighboring house. We had no issues with it. Kristine was super responsive, very friendly and very accommodating when our trip plans changed slightly. Kristine mentioned she has repeat guests and I can see why. We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Where to go

Great Salt Lake State Park

A short drive west of the city brings Hipcampers to Great Salt Lake State Park for year-round camping. Campsites for trailers up to 40 feet with water and electric hookups are available by the lake’s rentable marinas for swimming and boating. Or reserve a spot right on the beach in primitive tent campsites with firepits and access to hikes that lead to views of Black Rock National Historic Landmark. There’s no fishing because of the lake’s high salinity and mineral content, but the thriving brine shrimp bring migratory birds that are great for birdwatching.

Antelope Island State Park

Antelope Island is the largest island in Great Salt Lake, a wonder of geography that becomes a peninsula when water levels are low. The geography of Antelope Island State Park creates great backcountry trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking (eBike rentals are also available at the visitor’s center). Then, stay at RV or primitive campsites in the park among local free-ranging bison, bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope. The pet-friendly park also has accessible campsites with full hookups, hot showers, and picnic tables.
