Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. This place is awesome. The interior is like a luxury cabin with all the amenities and comforts you have at home. Excellent air conditioning, amazing waterfall shower, WiFi, and so many other great features to the cabin make it the best cabin we have ever stayed at. The host Tanya was friendly and had very fast responses to any questions. The location is in an RV park that has charcoal grills, players for the little ones, and great open areas to run with the kids or dogs. It was extremely quiet in regards to neighbors. There are some animal noises from geese and a few dogs but we felt that added to the country feel. A mile or so down the road is one of the best lakes in Texas and since it’s a state park it’s extremely safe and a pristine environment. A few minutes down the road in the opposite direction is a Dollar General for all the items you forgot or want some extra snack or drink. We will absolutely be coming back in the near future.

The fact that my dog was allowed to roam and explore really took the stress of keeping her leashed off me so I could finally relax as well….probably the best thing about the trip! We were lucky to find this site! We needed a last minute camping site for our family reunion at the state park and crossed our fingers that we would get a good one. Craig was a great host, gave us a tour of the property when we arrived, and even swapped us to a better site for our tents last minute. The bathroom and shower were clean and functional and the property is wooded and hilly and picturesque. There is definitely some highway noise early in the evening (being pretty close to 71 we weren’t surprised), but it quieted down as it got later and we could hear owls and coyotes and other wildlife. We would definitely book again.

My friends and I had such a great time camping here! The view of the river was beautiful, we could birdwatch from our campsite (barred owl, red shouldered hawk, king fisher, great egret, red-bellied woodpecker), the bathroom, dish washing, and shower facilities were extremely well stocked and clean, we were given free recently felled wood to burn, we loved getting cozy by the large fire pit - it had foot rests and a surface for resting our stuff! Bridget was the most attentive and sweet host; she checked on us before we arrived, she immediately answered my questions about a fire ban, she visited after we got settled, she brought us a can opener when we forgot one, she checked on us when she was worried our neighbors might be too noisy (they weren’t). The only thing we didn’t love was how many ants were on the ground, but that 1. Comes with the territory of living in Texas and 2. Is a hard thing for any landowner to fix. Just make sure you wear socks and bug spray to prevent any bites! My friends and I agree that we found a new spot to add to our regular camping rotation, and we can’t wait to come back :-)

We had such a wonderful time. Our hosts greeted us for a short intro to the place which was nice. I got some pointers on how to use a French Coffee press (you'll see) and we got the lay of the land. There are walking trails, a community fire pit (there are only 4 yurts), a pavilion with Corn Hole type games and a hot tub (didn't try it out). It was extremely peaceful and calm. A great place to forget about things for a couple of days. Also, Bastrop has a nice downtown area. We ate at Neighbors (?) downtown and enjoyed sitting on the patio by the river.

Finding the Magnolia is a little tricky with Google maps (it just pinned it as part of a school district!) but the bumpy drive is worth it. The camping area is tucked around behind the barn, so you don't even notice the family home. The tent is super cute, the hammock chairs comfy, and the star-viewing? Superb. It won't be for everyone, but Jennifer gives all the details in the listing, so it shouldn't be a surprise that the bathroom facilities are rustic. Overall, a lovely experience. p.s. we got to cuddle with absolutely adorable outdoor cats during our stay, which was 10/10 for all participants!

Our stay at this Hipcamp was truly special. The location is wonderfully remote, far from the noise and distractions of everyday life, and surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Watching the sunrise each morning was magical, with colors spilling across the open landscape that made the early wake-up completely worth it. We loved how peaceful it was, with only the sound of cows moving in the distance adding to the rustic charm. One of our favorite surprises was being greeted by the sweetest dogs who seemed to have made it their job to welcome us. They visited us throughout our stay, making the experience feel even more homey and heartwarming. The area nearby was full of hidden gems, and we spent time exploring several antique shops that we absolutely loved. Our host was wonderful and gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit and things to do. Their kindness and hospitality made us feel completely at ease. If you are looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by nature, with a touch of small-town charm and genuine warmth, this is the perfect spot. We are already looking forward to coming back soon!

Come and stay at our four acre riverfront property right on the Guadalupe! Half of the property is at higher elevation, with a nice sunset vista and breezy camping spots. Parking is also located up here. A short walk down a gated ravine takes you to the lower-leveled riverfront part of the property. This area offers 1-2 camping spots on a wooden deck, and 2-3 camping spots on the rock/concrete pavilion overlooking the fire pit and benches. The riverfront amenities include a gas grill, a cooler, a fire pit (firewood included but always subject to a burn ban), and well water for a hose shower (not for drinking). There is well water on the upper part of the property as well. No fires are permitted up top. Enjoy the views up top and the amenities down below. Set up your camp wherever works best for you! Note: There is no electricity or bathrooms on the property. Please pack out what you pack in. We rent the entire property to one person/reservation at a time. Up to 10 people on the property allowed or $25 per extra person. Cast a line in the Guadalupe and enjoy the bass and catfish fishing — If you're interested in a fishing guide for a 2-3 hour morning run, the cost is $250.00. The guide will pick you up on the banks of the property around 7am, and you'll be off the water by 10am. Subject to his availability. Feel free to BYO kayak or canoe. Life jackets highly encouraged!
