Weekend Trip to 5D RANCH

We had a great time, the campsites were perfect. The host was kind and helpful. The only thing that stressed us out were the bark scorpions near the lake. We know this isn’t something that can be helped by the host but we do want people to beware as they are highly venomous! We didn’t see any at the campsite and have genuinely nothing but positive things to say about the campsite itself.

I really love this place. That is why I have been here seven or eight times. I always feel safe, and love the fact you can pick anywhere you want to camp. My wife and I have our special little spot picked out where we can see the sun rise. It’s just a great place to go and really don’t want to go anywhere else honestly.

I thoroughly enjoyed camping at The Rock Pit! My sons and I enjoy off grid camping and The Rock Pit fit the bill. Richard is an amazing host and a pleasure to work with. The lake is literally just a few steps away with kayaking available! Richard had the place mowed and ready for us when we arrived. The Rock Pit is situated where we still had access to places like national forest. I just can’t say enough about this property. We will most definitely visit again!

Just took my second trip here and it was even better than the first time! The lake and trails are so beautiful, and the ranch dog Quigley showed up and made an amazing trail guide!!

Great property just a short trip from Houston. We were met at the entrance by the property manager and he gave us a quick tour. Public restroom and shower to use if needed and free range to explore most of the property. Scenic prairie views and the campsites had a table set up with a fire ring already.

2 nights at The Rock Pit

I had the whole property to myself. The best part was floating out in the water knowing that you can take a a nap and nothing can bother you. Richard's land is pure peace. He was very respectful, he even down the area where I wanted to camp so that its fresh. I will definitely go back knowing that its only an hour and some mins from the city (houston). This is the perfect getaway spot if you know how to primitive camp. I also realized there are little to no mosquitoes out there as well but still bring your repellent. I saw 2 bucks while hiking and few rabbits but nothing out the ordinary. Stargazing at night was the best as well, it was such a beautiful sight! Richard also offers kayaks for us you use, take advantage of that. I will be back soon.

Easy to find, site 19 was pretty secluded. Everything was clean, Julie was super friendly and helpful. The whole 5D Ranch was very pretty, with a water feature and even boats available to use. There was a nice bathroom at the entrance to the campsite area that even had a shower. Everything was great!

Very large forested area with ample space for camping. Came with an outhouse as well as a boat to use for fishing on the lake.

Best thing is that it was close by. Less than 30 minutes from my house. A great quick getaway, especially for people who have never been camping before and won’t travel very far. Julie is also very sweet and gave me a chore in advance and help me to pick out the campsite.

Absolutely lovely! This family is the definition of hospitality! They go out of their way to make your stay special. I realized we did not have enough firewood, and this sweet family hand delivered some logs to our campsite! Gorgeous and peaceful property. The camp sites are spread out, even though other campers were there, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. My kids asked if we could come back every year, now we have a new family tradition! Some very special lifelong family memories were made during our stay!

This is my first time camping (site 6) and this place absolutely has made me want to do camping much more frequently. This site provided a blend of cozying up in the wood but still has a nice and open area. The view and nature are beautiful but still has the convenience of the restroom of your home. The lake was nice to do some rowing despite the hot days of Texas.

We booked for our memorial long weekend. The place is great and we had a good time. We booked a cabin for 8 members. The only downside is we only had one wall mount AC unit in the hall and only fans in the bedrooms.

Weekend Trip to The Navasota River Ranch

I booked the grades but due to high brush we were recommended the area near the pond. Despite the heat I had an amazing time. The pond had some nice sized fish, I'm not really sure what they are called but there's variety. There is alot of see weed so we caught that most of the time. I did add firewood and an extra tent but there was no firewood until the day after we checked in. But it wasn't a big issue the first night, we got approval to use any deadwood we find. The bathroom had an infestation of what looked like wasp, but we were relived to find they were wasp like but not exactly, they don't sting, either way it was taken care of afterwards. The heat was pretty hot midday and I was tempted into going in the pond to cool off, but with the amount of seaweed I didn't want to risk my feet getting tangled. We were able to walk the property as we were the only ones there the first 2 days and I will definitely be coming back in the cooler months and trying out the forested areas deep in the property, I wish we were able to get to the river. Maybe next time. All in all it was a great experience with a few hiccups but the warden was very amicable and responded in a timely manner on our concerns. Plus he had a cute little puppy with the most gorgeous eyes.

The Rock Pit

Learn more about this land: The Rock Pit is a 5 acre swimming hole located in Trinity County that has been there over 50 years. Long ago they had dug out an area on a hill for rock on the dirt roads, and hit and underground water table. There are no fish in the Rock Pit, as the pH is 4.5, so no fish will live in it. I recall swimming there as a small boy, and wanted to share my memories with others. Depth ranges all over, but the deep end is around 15 feet. I have 5 kayaks currently, but bring yours if you have them, along with your vests. There is fishing in Lake Livingston, my place is north of it. There is access to Lake Livingston via White Rock Creek. A public boat ramp in on Highway 94, just outside Trinity. Or you can go back towards Trinity, to highway 357 and go to a ramp closer to the big lake. Tall pine tress, a few Oaks, and maple trees surround the place. Bring your mosquito repellant, as you are in the country! The place is raw right now, but I am planning improvements such as a few A frame cabins, a showering area and so on. So many things to do! Quiet natural location away from the busy city. Located on a private access uneven dirt road so a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle is recommended. There is a firepit but please burn inside the cinder blocks area and keep it under control (not too big). Do not burn when it is windy. There is plenty of branches and wood to use for the fire pit. Please make sure to completely put fire out when done. There are 6 acres and you are welcome to camp anywhere you like, in the open areas or in the woody areas in the back. We have a RV barn area that can be used for shade, sitting, eating, relaxing, etc. You can use the tables and chairs. There is also a white water container on the table that you can use for washing. There is a 32 gallon trash bucket that you can put trash in but make sure lid is closed when you're done to keep animals out. This site does not have electric power or running water so please plan accordingly. There is currently not a toilet available but I'm planning on building a composting toilet soon. For now, use the natural way and make sure to bury. For security, there is one camera on the property located near the front entrance. It is mainly for monitoring the front entrance area. This site can also be used for long term parking/storing your RV or vehicle but we are not liable for anything that happens. If interested, please contact me or use the app called "Neighbor". The RV barn currently already has a RV inside it so that parking space can't be used. Our long-term plan is to also make the RV available but we would need to install an in ground septic system and electricity first. Disclaimer: The area is located in nature. There could be all kind of animals like deers, insects, and even snakes. We will not be liable for anything that happens on the land so please be careful.
