The Ranch is our place we like to go when we need to get away. It's raw and it's nice land to camp, explore and enjoy wildlife. We have a Wildlife Exemption on the property and enjoy managing native song birds. We keep a constant flow of bird seed located in feeders around the ranch, and we have seen all kinds of birds making this a great place for birders. The ranch has nice elevation changes with a wet weather creek that traverses the property. There are some trails to hike or mountain bike. The cabin is rustic without plumbing or electricity, but we enjoy it and it's fun to think it's everything we would need. This is off-grid living all the way, and we are constantly learning new and better ways to do things.
The cabin is located on the very first spot we pitched a tent after purchasing the land, and we continue to make improvements as we go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

We have secluded camping available. Primitive tent camping, or if you want to go glamping you can bring an RV with a generator and be even more secluded but still have the comfortable amenities of an RV.

Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

A Texas Hill Country ranch with uncrowded “primitive” campsites about 8 miles from Fredericksburg and about 12 miles from Enchanted Rock. There is no running water, no electricity and no WiFi at the campsite. There is a picnic table, some chairs, a fire ring with some firewood and a portable toilet. This site is suited to tent camping, car camping and small RV "dry camping". There is relative privacy, hopefully starry nights and campfire provisions. Guests share a pasture with livestock and wildlife.
Weather in all its variations is part of camping. If you are not prepared to deal with whatever the weather may be, you should consider another option. We encourage guests to research this destination before booking, carefully review our cancellation policy, and consider buying travel insurance to protect against unexpected travel disruptions. Weather conditions are not an acceptable reason for a refund or change of reservation for this campsite.
Cellular service is limited here. AT&T provides a good signal in this area. HOWEVER **** SPRINT, VERIZON and T-MOBILE may have “VERY POOR” or “NONEXISTENT” cellular signals at this site.
We have neighbors, and although the place is relatively large, and we don't anticipate a problem, there is no guarantee that you will not be bothered by some kind of noise. Likewise, we don’t want our neighbors bothered by any noise coming from you. People live out in the country to enjoy separation of space. Please be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Observe quiet time after 9 pm and before 8 am.
The country roads in this area are paved and they are excellent for walking, bicycling and driving. There are “cattle guards” in the roadways. Cattle guards are steel pipe obstacles along a road intended to prevent livestock, such as sheep and cattle from passing out of a fenced area.
If you book this property you will be able to check yourself in at the property. The specific location and other check in details will be provided to you on the day of your scheduled arrival, and after housekeeping and campsite make-ready is complete.
Most any car should be just fine for accessing the campsite, except in the case of very wet weather. Guests are not allowed to use firearms or fireworks on this property.

Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

A Texas Hill Country ranch with uncrowded “primitive” campsites about 8 miles from Fredericksburg and about 12 miles from Enchanted Rock. There is no running water, no electricity and no WiFi at the campsite. There is a picnic table, some chairs, a fire ring with some firewood and a portable toilet. This site is suited to tent camping, car camping and small RV "dry camping". There is relative privacy, hopefully starry nights and campfire provisions. Guests share a pasture with livestock and wildlife.

We have neighbors, and although the place is relatively large, and we don't anticipate a problem, there is no guarantee that you will not be bothered by some kind of noise. Likewise, we don’t want our neighbors bothered by any noise coming from you. People live out in the country to enjoy separation of space. Please be considerate of others and keep noise to a minimum. Observe quiet time after 9 pm and before 8 am.
The country roads in this area are paved and they are excellent for walking, bicycling and driving. There are “cattle guards” in the roadways. Cattle guards are steel pipe obstacles along a road intended to prevent livestock, such as sheep and cattle from passing out of a fenced area.
If you book this property you will be able to check yourself in at the property. The specific location and other check in details will be provided to you on the day of your scheduled arrival, and after housekeeping and campsite make-ready is complete.

Weekend Trip to Low Gear Farmstead
I was only there from noon until 10:30 the next day. But my friends and I had a really nice time. The campsite was nice with lots of space, we were able to get plenty of firewood, we brought our kayaks and were able to easily access the river. We went kayaking and fishing from our boats, and then we did some fishing from the river bank near our campsite. The entire time we were accompanied by Bjørn, the friendliest dog in the world. He hung out with us all day. He will beg for and steal your food if you aren’t looking though, so beware. It got very cold and he came and curled up next to me in my tent for a little bit at bed time. This is a no frills campsite. Toilet is a bucket filled with leaves topped with a toilet seat and lid. No showers. If that doesn’t deter you, the sound of the river, the amazing night sky, and the sounds of wildlife all around made this such a great experience that I plan on coming back. Oh! There are goats too!

Game warden came by and gave out stickers to kids. Bring off road truck for across the river bed, nice rock trail for it.

Our host was very friendly and considerate. They responded quickly to messages. The sites are far apart from each other (though we had the field to ourselves which was wonderful!). One of their dogs joined us and our dog on a walk around the property. It was so nice seeing the river moving and listening to it burble along. The orchard area has beautiful trees, some pecan trees. We stayed up on River View which is at the edge of the field, with some smaller, shorter trees which we parked our chairs under. We would definitely stay here again.

Our hosts were gracious and friendly and their dogs got along great with our dog. The campsite was very clean and close enough to hear the water flowing in the river…very relaxing.
Our site (Riverview) had a clear view of the night sky and we saw (for the first time) a train of Starlink satellites moving across the sky shortly after sunset…it was such a fun and unique experience for us since we live in the city.
We highly recommend this site and hope to visit again!

We loved our site it was huge and very private and right next to the river I mean within 30 ft, not to hard to find directions brought us down the road a little bit but we back tracked and kept our eyes out for the live oaks and soon found it we also brought our dog she had a blast with Logan’s dog who actually hung out with us all night and is super sweet

Loved the rustic cabin I can tell a lot of work and care went into this location. I wondered around the land for several hours to look at all the plant and wildlife and was not disappointed. The donkey’s were curious about me as a visitor but quickly lost interest and meandered away when they found out I didn’t have any approved treats for them. I had a wonderful time of rest and disconnection from society.

We loved staying at the off grid cabin. The location was great and Travis is an excellent host. It has an amazing view of the western horizon with jaw dropping sunsets. We found the cabin more than equipped for our needs, there was even a solar battery for charging devices. Fire pit was awesome and we enjoyed hanging around in the hammock. I don’t agree with some of the complaints in other reviews, I have a feeling they thought they were getting an AirBnB. This is a picturesque off-grid cabin in the hill country with amazing views. If you are looking for solitude, stars and nature this is a sure bet.

I loved camping at Logan’s land and will definitely be back. The river was so peaceful, the campsite was perfectly clean and had a great view. Logan was a wonderful host. Very responsive and friendly. I purchased some of the responsibly raised local sausage and firewood they offer and it was delicious over the coals of a campfire. 10/10. No notes.

The pull through slots were long enough for our full setup and car. Electricity, water and sewer all worked fine. Had good enough cell service for our hotspot. Getting in and out was easy and the gate is nice and wide. Got to see the deers which are on the property. The issues are the pull through slots are very narrow and close together. Our stairs almost were into the neighboring site. Also, there is one quiet "permanent" rig two sites over which needs a bit of repair and makes things look like this wouldn't be a good spot to stay. This is a great place for an overnight stop.
