Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms

Mockingbird Farms is beautiful, safe, and serene. We had everything we needed in the bunkhouse for “glamping,” but I think tent camping here would also be a great experience. The farm has donkeys, horses, and goats — they are all super gentle and love people, and the host gave us animal crackers to feed them! Everything was very comfortable — plenty of hot water in the outdoor shower, AC unit in the bunkhouse, super comfortable bed. The host Cait was great to communicate with before the trip, and we got to visit with her for a bit on the property, she is so nice! Quick, easy access to the nearby towns (Somerset and Poteet) for meals and gas / dollar stores if you forgot to pack something. I believe this property would be very safe for solo campers, as well. I can’t recommend Mockingbird Farms enough — we’ll definitely be back!

Really nice place. Unkomplicated. Very friendly host. Beautiful horses. Our daughters really like it there. Washingmaschine and dryer 👍🏽 At night you can hear the vehicles on the road. Only the restroom was dirty.

Bob Hansler is a great host. His ranch and the camp sites are awesome. Very private and well maintained. I have been a subscriber to his YT channel for years and was very excited to finally meet him. He is the ultimate outdoor survivor and woodsman. He also hosts survival courses, and I will be going back for more tent and hammock camping. Also, for those that know Bob through YT, Huck his loyal pup is doing well and always appreciates a good snack. Thanks Bob. 10 out of 5 Stars!!

Beautiful land! We enjoyed our stay at this camp site. Billy accommodated us on short notice and showed us to our site. We loved the view and hearing the cattle and fish jumping in the river. We will back again on our next Texas Adventure

Where do I start..We have found our forever camping spot ❤️ When we arrived we were all just in awe of the view..What an amazing spot ( site 4 ) The grass was so green and soft the view of the river amazing.... The site is so private, and huge...We sit up our tents under some trees the shade was perfect . So much space to set up everything. The sounds of nature were on point. The birds singing was very relaxing. The entrance into the river was very easy like walking into the beach. Billy is so very kind . And kept us good with firewood. Also provided us with lifejackets which was so very much appreciated...Our children spent hours swimming and riding up and down the river on the boat and Kayaks that Billy provided...The two fire pits were a huge plus .made cooking so easy....We spund four days and 3 nights there and we were not in a hurry to leave....There is water from a well on the property that made it very easy and convenient for our needs....This is definitely a place that you will not regret camping at....it's our new favorite spot....💞💞💞💞 Thanks Billy for offering such a beautiful place to make memories at ...keep up the good work...we will be back...😊

This place is terrific. The hosts were extremely kind and helpful in guiding us to the property as it was a slight challenge to find. We had a awesome evening paddle boarding up the river, and with our tent set up a mere 5 feet away from the river I would 10/10 recommend.

Not much to say, we pulled in late and left early. Probably could have parked on the side of the road, but I hate getting woken up and having to move. James the host was responsive and helpful. The place looked pretty killer for a nice getaway. It's not a typical campground, it's private land with outhouses and sites with firepits. Very reminiscent of a Baja situation. Host says he locks the gate at night but I couldn't confirm. Overall I'd recommend

This property was so beautiful! Highly recommend the Ashe juniper location for the farthest back and most secluded location! The woods/trees you walk through to get there is so amazing. David was such a gem giving a quick tour of the property and amenities. I’ve stayed at a few different Hipcamp locations around San Antonio, and this is by far our favorite! Will be back again!

We had a great time camping on Billy’s land. The river was beautiful and the campsite was spacious and appointed with a fire pit and chairs. Firewood was provided for a low price. The goats and sheep were friendly and cute.

The little peninsula right off the river was beautiful and lush accompanied by canoes that are available to rent and firewood available for purchase as well. This is a Tip top establishment that I will definitely be visiting again and again for times to come. From wild beavers two cows in the river this place has it all!

We stayed twice this season so far and it's honestly a fast favorite! We have a small 16' teardrop that fits perfectly for use at sites 1, 2, 3, 6, & 8. Our 1st trip was with some friends, their kids and our dogs at sites 6, 7, & 8 at the recommendation of the owner. Perfect to sit at the shaded campfire space @ 8 with space for everyone's tent! The 2nd trip was for a family birthday camping with some dogs as well @ site 1 - which was adjusted to site 2 to be further from the entrance road. James is always very responsive and easy to communicate with for anything! Notes for potential campers: - IT IS JUST THE WOODS...in the suburbs. There is the convenience of access to stores if you forgot something but once you are on site, there is 1 port-a-potty (cleaned 1/wk?) that is within a 5-10 minute walk from any site. No water connections & no electricity. Great "tester" for introducing people to camping b/c of the safety net of being so close to civilization. - Most sites VERY well shaded. If you are in site 1 or 2 I recommend bringing a canopy because the sites are cleared pretty well. - Road is very accessible but it is a dirt/rock road. More uneven and larger rock than gravel. - Sites 4-8 have the least road noise, with the lowest road noise being at 8. - Carpool for groups as much as possible. Parking (except at 1, 3, or 8) limited. - 8+ppl tents: Sites 1-4 & 8 have space for at least 2 tents; site 6 (maybe 5?) for 1 tent; sites 5 & 7 poss. but tight - Very walkable!

River Grove Campground

. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. Mockingbird Farms

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 acre estate nestled between quiet country houses and a very active horse ranch next door to the east. Rescue horses are also kept on the property in rotation. Much of the camping here is still a work in progress! So for now, a very private economical choice for campers! The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. A new outdoor shower is 95% complete and usable but swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels. The RV Dump station is also ready for use as well as the new outhouse! If you forgot to dump on the way out or need to before arriving, please use the free dump stations on I-35 near Natalia on either side of the highway.

We’ve transformed 45 acres of what was once an active rock quarry just 15 years ago, into a healthy, regenerative, green space as well as an event and training venue. Our venue is nestled in the middle of the rapidly growing suburban landscape around us in north San Antonio. We purchased the property five years ago from good friends who had already started the mission of revitalizing the land. Today, 39 of the acres are in “preservation” status, which means that we are letting the natural micro-ecosystems that have developed from what remained of the quarrying activities 15 years ago to develop on their own. We hope to always keep this acreage in that status for generations to enjoy. The remaining 6 acres is wooded, where we live, have gardens, farm animals and where we interface equitably with our environment. Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree / plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens). Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River

We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes. Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. We are situated in South Canyon Lake, known for its crystal blue waters. The space This listing is for both campers The cactus camper has a dinette and two couches that convert into a small double bed and two twins. It also has a bunk available for maximum two kids 140lb weight limit. The camper includes a full bathroom with a shower and toilet. Keep in mind, these are small spaces and may be challenging for some people. The height of the camper is 6' 2 1/2" and the length of the bed is 6'. The small double can sleep two people who are not afraid to be close. The bamboo bunk has a dinette and couch that converts either into a small double bed and a single or a large king-size bed. It has a canvas bunk available for a maximum of two kids with a 140lb weight limit. The camper includes a full bathroom with a shower and toilet. Keep in mind, these are small spaces and may be challenging for some people. The height of the camper is 6'1 1/2" and the length of the beds is 6'. The small double can sleep two people who are not afraid to be close. You will have access to a garden with a fountain, chimeneas, grill, seating, and lights. There is ample parking space. We are close to a major road so there will be traffic sounds and our home is located on the same property within view with a shared driveway. There is a small hiking prayer trail with hill country views that has some steep inclines. There is a picnic table at the the top, if you would like to have a picnic. Fresh eggs are available daily. Primitive camping for tents/RVs with access to water only. There is a convenience store 3/10 of a mile away with restrooms. We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible, so please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. We have a dumpster located near the entrance to the road. Please use it and place all your trash inside. We free-range our chickens on a part of the back lot, so please be respectful of them. No pets allowed. We are in a rural area with only a few neighbors who keep to themselves. Our property is 2 acres, with the HipCamp area utilizing the back 1/2 acre of it. Downtown San Antonio is only 30 minutes away, making this site perfect for a relaxing getaway after your day of adventures. The small town of La Vernia is only 5 minutes away, offering access to multiple conveniences. There are so many things to do and see in the area during your stay here. Visit the Alamo, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, SA Zoo, the Riverwalk, the US's largest Mexican Market, The Pearl, Japanese Tea Gardens, Yanaguana Garden, San Fernando Cathedral, or enjoy kayaking or tubing on the Comal or Guadalupe Rivers in New Braunfels. You can also explore the sites and shops in Fredericksburg, and there’s usually some type of festival/event going on, just to name a few.

If you’re a cyclist, you will enjoy our extremely low traffic county road. Enjoy long straights, many twists and turns, and hill country scenery. Our primitive camping sites are set among our majestic oak trees. We provide a primitive dirt camp pad and fire ring. There is one picnic table that seats 8. We have no restroom facilities, no electricity, no running water. We hope to add more amenities as time goes on. We have big plans to in large the pond as we are able.
