Weekend Trip to Sandhill Farms Tent Camping
Kevin’s land was perfect. I needed to get out of the city for a night and decompress somewhere private. Coming from the PNW this gave me a taste of home. Going in the spring it was lush and green, and we had a donkey, a horse, and a herd of cattle roaming where we set up. They were incredible hosts and showed us around the property and took us out to an oil rig down the road where we were able to walk back. If you’re looking for a place to call all your own, I would recommend it.

Very nice. Very relaxing. We caught two bass in the lake but let them go. My city dogs did not know what to do with the frogs and crickets making noise. It was so nice letting my dogs off the leash and giving them freedom.

We really enjoyed tent camping at Camp Joy! We felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves and fully took advantage of it. Paddle boarding in the morning, afternoon and evening with our dog while watching the sunrise and sunset was pure bliss. Unlimited firewood was a huge plus and boy did our steaks taste better than ever cooking over it! Eating under the stars surrounded by the sounds of frogs was magical. Lastly, having a flushable toilet and hot shower was an added bonus. Definitely recommend a stay here!

We loved staying at Camp Joy! The land was beautiful, the bathroom was clean and the shower was really nice. The view of the water from our tent was so beautiful and it was so peaceful. There is some road noise but it wasn't overbearing. An abundance of firewood was already provided at each campsite as well which was great! We did have a puppy come visit us that wandered onto the campsite from across the street. We didn't mind and he was super friendly. We actually really enjoyed the little guy, haha. We also saw the cat Duchess that lives on the property who was sweet as well. Overall it was a trip full of animals and beautiful views. Will definitely want to come again!

We LOVED camping with a horse, a donkey and cows…a first for us. The horse was super curious and friendly (nosy). The donkey was curious, too (as well as adorable). The cows kept their distance and the horse and donkey moved on after vetting and checking for snacks. Communication with the host was good, too. He allowed us to stay as long as we wanted. Beautiful property and a lot of fun.

Beautiful and serene. Feels very private. The rundown barn is picturesque snd adds to the landscape. Saw some deer and enjoyed visiting with the donkey and paint. Directions provided were easy to follow and communication from kevin was great. Thanks again! Will definitely be back.

The property borders a small creek and has abundant trees, and wildlife. Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! Guests are required to communicate estimated time of arrival well in advance. When arriving, make sure to meet Aaron or a designate at the red gate before entering further into the property. If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste. Inquire ahead of time to see if firewood is available to be gathered on site, or if you will need to bring your own. No uninvited guests without 24 hour prior approval, and additional guest fees paid. Also please no more than one dog per site.

Several State Parks surround Lake Somerville, the closest from this location is "Birch Creek State Park" with beautiful hiking trails. Highly recommend the drive to check the Parks out. Also recommend visiting "Washington on the Brazos", the birthplace of Texas and is where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. It is also a State Park. The "Aggieland Wild Animal Safari" is outside of Bryan College Station and is a great place to take the kids to interact with all kinds of animals. Offers a drive-thru in which you can drive thru as many times as you want, as well as a petting zoo and gift shop. And, if you like shopping, there are lots of antique shops and wineries at Round Top, another scenic drive about 45 minutes away. And all the ice cream lovers must visit the home of "Blue Bell" in Brenham, TX which is only open to the public during the weekdays, not weekends. While in Brenham, kids love to skate at the historic "Silver Wings Ballroom", known as one of the best skating rinks in Texas! Check for local events happening all around such as Aggie Football Games, Snook ChiliFest, Market Days on the Square in Caldwell and much, much more!
