I recently acquired this property that has been in my family for over 100 years and my original home place until around 1980. My wife and I initially made this site for our own RV use, but we want to share it for others to enjoy and also to help finance our constant improvements. The original house that I grew up in is still located on the property but is currently uninhabitable (for now). My fondest memories of the property are of playing and catching crawdads in the creek that located on the property when I was a kid and riding horses and flying kites in the fields. I am working hard to restore this property to the way I remember it and trying to make it enjoyable for those that come to visit. A majority of the property is still being used as a hay field during the summer months and two to three times a year the hay is usually harvested.

Sugarloafers is located on a portion of the old Ocoee Outdoors Zipline. It is nestled along the lower Ocoee river with great views of Sugarloaf and Big Frog Mountains. This is an excellent gateway to Parksville Lake and the Cherokee National Forest and all the activities it affords including whitewater rafting on the Hiwasee and Ocoee Rivers, mountain biking, kayaking, lazy river tubing/floating, fishing, and so much more!
Our property is one of nine - 5 acre tracts along the river. As of Fall of 2024, the adjacent lots have houses on them. So while this campsite is some distance from the houses, it is currently within view.
Although the campsite is back from the highway, road noise can be an issue especially on the weekends. Highway 64 is one of three major roads in the county. Unfortunatley, tents don't block the sounds of Harleys racing down the road at 2 a.m. Consider bringing earplugs or muffs if you are a light sleeper!
Within a mile from the end of the driveway there is:

Whitewater Outfitters - Ocoee Outdoors, NOC Ocoee Outpost, ACE Ocoee Adventures

Other - Rock Creek Oufitters Ocoee Store, Ocoee Express Gas Station and Convenience Store, Sugarloaf River Park and Parksville Dam and the entrance to the Cherokee National Forest!
Dollar General & Foodcity - 4.2 miles back towards Cleveland (because someone forgot their phone charging cable and you want a 6 pack of beer).
Middle Ocoee Private boater takeout is only a 10 minute drive east on Hwy 64.
Consider a hike to beautiful Benton Falls - drive to the top of Chilhowee Mountain and it's a 3 mile round trip hike.
!!!ALSO!!! Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 - especially to I-40 through the mountains - Highway 64 is now one of the primary routes into NC from TN. Expect traffic along this route to be busier than normal.

We are conveniently located close to East Ridge, Ringgold, and Fort Oglethorpe, with downtown Chattanooga only 25 minutes away.
NOTE: Driveway access is paved and curving on an incline. It is a little steeper near the end as pictured. It’s 12 feet wide and a little wider around the curves for extra room. We have pulled trailers and a 20 foot uhaul up through there with no issue. 5th wheel campers may have difficulty not having enough width for turns.

Maclellan Island is a unique 24-acre wildlife sanctuary situated in the middle of the Tennessee River, in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. It is accessible by water only. The island is home to a great diversity of plants, animals, and birds.
Campers can enjoy easy wildlife viewing in a true urban wilderness setting. Muskrats, geese, and kingfishers can be seen feeding at the water’s edge, while the forest is home to songbirds, turkeys, raccoons, owls, possums, foxes, and woodpeckers. It's a great place to quietly watch nesting osprey and great-blue heron as well as an important feeding area for migrating warblers.
IMPORTANT: Maclellan Island is accessible by boat ONLY. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from the island, either using your own boat or by renting a kayak/SUP from a local outfitter. We recommend renting kayaks from L2 Outdoors who launches from Coolidge Park.
Maclellan Island’s earliest inhabitants were Indigenous People whose island community was likely an extension or suburb of Citico, a nearby village. Farmed in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, the island was plowed for many years and largely free of the trees which shade it today. Floods have covered the island from time to time and drove away numerous early settlers including one early farmer, Abel Kesterson, who survived rising waters in 1867 only by holding onto the horns of his cow as they swam to safety. The island eventually passed through the hands of several prominent companies as well as a number of more rambunctious inhabitants. Finally in 1954 Maclellan Island was donated to the Chattanooga Audubon Society by Robert J. Maclellan for preservation as a wildlife refuge.
If you'll be arriving by a motorized boat, you will need to use a public boat ramp. The closest one is at the Tennessee River Park. Coolidge Park has a kayak/canoe/SUP launch and you can park cars in their parking lot overnight for a fee.

Off the grid, out of the way, rustic 10 acres where you can pitch a tent, take a hike and enjoy a campfire. Mostly wooded with nearby sites to explore, a few swings for fun (swings have recently been removed due to trees falling) and a fantastically cold SEASONAL mountain creek for cooling off.
Always improving our place, we recently removed the 'cabins', which had become unsuitable for use.
The property is part of a community, which you may notice on the way to the campsite. Site 1 (The Swings) will be first left after you turn into the driveway. It is a U shaped drive, at the bottom of the U, park and walk 15 feet to site. Site 2 (Main Container) is at the end of main driveway, next to container. Drive to end of driveway, park and walk 10 feet to camp. Both are equidistant to the outhouse. There is a trail (tagged with red) that goes all the way around the property, a top half and a bottom half that will take you by the creek. Please look through all of the listing information.
The SEASONAL creek at the bottom of the slope is wonderful and there is a spot for two adults to sit down into the crisp water and plenty of room for lots of feet. If you follow the path in the middle of the property, a 30 minute walk (therefore not on our property) will take you to a beautiful swimming hole. It's cold! There is no power or running water at the property so it's an ideal place to get away from daily life and truly relax. We hope you will enjoy it as much as our family does!
Please note that even though some pictures show buildings, there are no longer cabins/shelter on The Land. We are unable to remove pictures Hipcampers post. It is raw 10 acres so, yes there are ticks. Cover up and spray as you see fit, just be aware. Also, since it is 10 acres of trees, there is plenty of firewood. We don't leave any bundles, just find down limbs and presto, firewood. DO NOT USE THE MAP LISTED OR GOOGLE MAPS; it will take you straight through water. We send detailed directions to you once the day before your booking. Please plan to travel in with daylight, it is incredibly difficult to navigate to our space in the dark. Full hook ups that work without issue under a canopy of big oak trees amidst the sprawling countryside of Cleveland Tennessee. We had to cancel our recent trip, but have been here multiple times. It is peaceful and relaxing with Julie and her husband providing the right amount of inquiry/privacy. It would be a shame for anyone to miss out on this lovely hipcamp.

Gorgeous property. We had a blast. The bath houses were clean and well stocked. We loved hanging out in The Barn. We cooked over the fire, however, there is a really nice guest kitchenette for anyone that needs it. Stacey was so helpful and suggested nearby hikes and fishing spots. The other two workers (I believe Kate and Clint) were very kind and welcoming as well. The retail shop was great because we forgot a lighter (somehow) and they also sold bags of ice, wood, snacks, drinks, etc. My boyfriend insisted that I stress how nice the picnic tables were in this review. They really were. Huge and very sturdy, perfect for cooking. Our campsite was private, however, if someone would have been staying in site 3, it would have been a bit less private as they are pretty close. The campsite was super spacious. I was nervous that our 12-person tent would be too big for the tent pad, but it fit perfectly! We didn’t have time to try out the hot tubs but they looked super nice. I would definitely recommend this campsite!!!

This site is a slice of heaven with the beautiful pastures, huge trees and quiet country setting! We took our reactive dogs, but the cows kept their distance so we didn’t have any issues! There was also enough service to FaceTime in for a family party we were missing! Julie was accommodating letting us hook up to their shed as a back up source of power. Highly recommend staying here!!
