I was the first person to purchase property here in 1995 in what is known as Moultrie Plantation. This is a private property community with its own private dirt road. The plantation is rich in Civil War history and people still find arrowhead 's, Civil war buttons and other Civil War related items on the dirt roads where the soldiers marched through the plantation. Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. Any donation to show appreciation for its use, if even for a single night, is a valuable support to our efforts.
*** Special Note: Heirloom has one full-hookup site for medium sized setups, that we use for long term month-to-month stays. Heirloom is our home, so we are judicious in determining that the guests that stay there are a good match for us and them.

So peaceful and Sam the puppy is so cute. Their grandson was staying there for a time and my son loved being able to play with him. Will was also kind in humoring my kid when he asked lots of questions.
The neighbor’s dogs are also super sweet if you see them, very submissive.

Liz's land met our needs for an affordable spot to park our camper while we explored the area. We spent most of our time at Hunting Island State Park and it was close enough for multiple trips there and back during our stay. We also enjoyed biking the Spanish Moss Trail. We had everything we needed at the site and Liz responded quickly to questions we had upon arrival. The permanent shelter is a nice addition. We did have trouble with mosquitos and other biting pests while there, so be prepared for that. As other reviews have stated, it is on a busy road and there is road noise, although you can't see the road. We knew that when choosing the site.

We love this spot it was really easy to get to and minutes away from the hwyand town. The pull thru sites where great and very easy to navigate in our class a and car in tow. The spaces are super close to each other. The bathroom / shower rooms were nice. It would be nice if the staff were more familiar with local restaurants and things to do in the area. For a stop along your route I would recommend them for a good night stay

Very nice and gracious host who took great care before I arrived to set up my campsite so that it was free of leaves, sticks, or any debris that might otherwise result in having bumpy or uneven tent floor.
There were plenty of subtle soft solar paneled security lights hanging from trees or attached to outbuildings to ensure that campers could get their way around at night if they needed to make a bathroom run from the tent to the designated location.
The camping area was secure, safe, and had a charming atmosphere about it, and for the price, can't be beat. I'll make it a point to come again if I ever have occasion to camp in the area.

I had a wonderful stay and cannot recommend Heirloom Hamlet enough. The communication was great from the start, with Curt providing clear and helpful information well before I arrived.
Upon pulling in, I was met with genuine warmth and kindness. The hosts showed me around the property, helping me to feel right at home, and the amenities they provide went above and beyond my expectations.
The property itself is stunning, filled with artistic and creative touches that make the buildings and grounds feel truly unique. The natural setting was really lovely and peaceful. It was the perfect place for my morning walk with my coffee.
Location-wise, it was perfect for me; conveniently close to the highway, but tucked away enough to be quiet and restful. I’m so appreciative of the hospitality and hope to visit again in my travels.
