Weekend Trip to Camp Moondog

Staying at Camp Dogmoon was an enchanting experience. The camp, situated right on the river, allowed for incredible views of the wildlife. We even heard beaver slaps on our second night. As I was leaving, I made a mistake and got my car stuck in the mud. The camp hosts quickly got me out of the mud and on my way. I would 100% recommend staying at Camp Dogmoon. It is easily one of my favorite campsites I have stayed at so far.

Land was great and clear for our trip. Felt secluded but a short drive to town if you forget anything, really the best of both worlds. Was very easy to navigate and the site was clean. Mike was super friendly and helpful the entire trip!

If you’re reading this review, you don’t need to read any others! Quintessential, totally classic, green, breathtaking views, and impeccable hospitality in North Carolina farm country! Steve has thoughtfully planned out and anticipated every need you could have on his land. Shower, cleaning table, dry firewood, fire pit, a swing set for the kids, fenced in Hipcamp for the pets, soft, green and manicured grass surrounded with trees for privacy, away from the road, quiet, clothes line, electric, potable water - everything!!! Look no further for your next Hipcamp in North Carolina - enjoy so many beautiful places to explore within 20-30 minutes! Plenty of green grass - level - for tents also!

This was my first time using hipcamp. Based on my experience with this trip, not only will I be staying at Moondog again but I'll also be using hipcamp more. The hosts were great. They went above and beyond and provided help and advice whenever possible. They were also quick to respond to any messages. The location is great. You're minutes from stores for last minute essentials and downtown Greenville is a short drive away. You're right on the river and it feels secluded. We were at the far out and the site was clean. There is a hill but anyone moderately fit will have no problem with it and the hosts even helped transport our items with their four wheeler. I would highly recommend this place.

Great spot by the river! Very peaceful and beautiful with the river flowing past. Host greeted us and helped carry some stuff down to the site. It’s very private, but you’re not far from town. We were able to go into Greenville (downtown about 15 minutes away) to walk around town and get lunch and Walmart (5 minutes away) to get some supplies and ice. The river is about a 10 ft drop from the site, so maybe worrisome with kids but it prevented our dog from getting soaking wet. We climbed down for a little swim when it got too warm. Would love to come back!

Great stay! Flowing water on either side of site. Private and cozy. Great star gazing. Friendly, helpful host!

5 nights at Indian Creek Rental's Mountain Camp

We had a fantastic stay at the campsite with a hot tub! The view was so pretty and peaceful. The carport was a great spot to setup our kitchen. The bathhouse was way closer than expected and the nicest one I’ve seen! We are definitely going back!!

We had an incredible time staying at Barnhill Mountain top campsite! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the peaceful surroundings made for a perfect getaway. Edwin was a fantastic host—welcoming, helpful, and ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The site was well-maintained, and we loved watching the sunrise and sunset from such a beautiful spot. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a serene and scenic escape. Thanks again, Edwin! We’ll definitely be back.

Great place! Would recommend this place to anyone with dogs. Mine went in and out of the river all weekend, not worried about other people or them wandering too far. He was kind and helped find local hikes, brought fresh apples and cabbage. Will be back 100%

The site provided was absolutely amazing. The location is quiet, adorable, and very inviting. The site was clean and well kept. The bathhouse was nicer than my own bathroom. The views from the site were great, the offered trails were great, just an amazing trip. I cannot recommend higher.

I loved camping so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campsite is well situated between the Parkway and Brevard. The site was very quiet and peaceful with the sound of the river right next to our site. We stayed at site 6. Tom, our host, was very kind and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us great local information about great places to see!

This was such a delightful place to stay, and we're already making plans to come back. The Creekhouse is the perfect blend of roughing it with access to basic amenities. My kids enjoyed playing in the creek and exploring the property, and I appreciated the quiet freedom to let them roam. Damon is a wonderful host, friendly and very responsive. When the temperature dropped suddenly, he made sure we had heaters and warm blankets for sleeping, and we stayed cozy. My favorite part was falling asleep to the sound of the creek directly below us.

This is a lovely spot for camping. Very quiet and peaceful. My wife and I and our Husky spent the weekend and loved it. Diana and Joseph and their kids are great hosts! Will definitely be back soon!

Riverside Camping on the Farm

Sleep under the stars while listening to the river run while staying on a working farm! During the summer months watch our vegetables grow and the pickers pick! The winter months you'll enjoy a sea of green as our cover crop takes over the field. You can cool off in the river or check out the surrounding Pisgah National Forest. Dogs on leashes are welcome and owner is responsible for cleaning up after pet. The farm provides a portable toilet but no other amenities. Campfires may be restricted, so check local regulations. This is a working farm, so please be respectful of the crops and workers and keep dogs on leashes. Fishing is NOT allowed on the river unless you have booked a trip with one of our guides. Please note, if it’s rainy the roads will be muddy and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are the best option. Head 4 miles east to the town of Mills River for restaurants, stores, and services. You can find hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails within a short bike or car ride in Pisgah National Forest. Chimney Rock State Park is 25 miles east and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Or perhaps go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our guests love staying here: "This was our first time using Hipcamp and we couldn’t have been happier! Candace was great at communicating and quick to respond to our questions. Site 1 was perfect. We had so much room for just the two of us and the water access was great for our dogs to swim. Plus it was so quiet, we’ll probably never go back at state park camping! This 5-acre parcel was part of a larger 17-acre tract/cow pasture that was for sale in the spring of 2017. We had moved to this beautiful quiet country road the year before after spending 15 years in the hustle and bustle of West Asheville. When our neighbor put the land up for sale, we jumped at the chance to protect our view (we live across the street) and own another piece of the heaven we have come to call home. This land has a creek running through it, and is in a quiet, rural, residential area that is a mix of newcomers and families who have lived here for generations. The property has a secluded feel to it while being very conveniently located to the wonderful hiking, mountain biking, and trout fishing this area is famous for. We’re also very close to cycle shops, outfitters, groceries, restaurants, etc. We love it here and are excited to develop our plan for this space. We hope you will love it here too.
