Weekend Trip to Camp Moondog

The perfect retreat right on the river, the hosts were great, making us welcome then leaving us to enjoy. Our pup has a new favorite spot to retrieve in the water. And five minutes away Buffet Latino was serving a full Puerto Rican buffet at 9 am! The perfect exit!

It was our first time camping and it was a great experience from the beginning. Mike came to welcome us and show us the place around which was really nice. The space is great, the view is amazing, it’s crazy it’s so close to the actual city and you actually feel far away like others have said already. You can hear the nature, we didn’t see any animals, the river was super nice too. In general a great experience that I would 100% recommend.

This camping spot is awesome, site 3 is on a big piece of land that is more secluded the further you go back. Our dog Ginger loved running around the trail in the back. Beth and Rob are great hosts, they always made sure we had what we needed. I would definitely come back.

It was a nice private spot with lots of branches to make a fire. The river is right nearby which is very nice. It is a great camping spot that is very convenient given how close it is to town.

Staying at Camp Dogmoon was an enchanting experience. The camp, situated right on the river, allowed for incredible views of the wildlife. We even heard beaver slaps on our second night. As I was leaving, I made a mistake and got my car stuck in the mud. The camp hosts quickly got me out of the mud and on my way. I would 100% recommend staying at Camp Dogmoon. It is easily one of my favorite campsites I have stayed at so far.

This was my first time using hipcamp. Based on my experience with this trip, not only will I be staying at Moondog again but I'll also be using hipcamp more. The hosts were great. They went above and beyond and provided help and advice whenever possible. They were also quick to respond to any messages. The location is great. You're minutes from stores for last minute essentials and downtown Greenville is a short drive away. You're right on the river and it feels secluded. We were at the far out and the site was clean. There is a hill but anyone moderately fit will have no problem with it and the hosts even helped transport our items with their four wheeler. I would highly recommend this place.

Great spot by the river! Very peaceful and beautiful with the river flowing past. Host greeted us and helped carry some stuff down to the site. It’s very private, but you’re not far from town. We were able to go into Greenville (downtown about 15 minutes away) to walk around town and get lunch and Walmart (5 minutes away) to get some supplies and ice. The river is about a 10 ft drop from the site, so maybe worrisome with kids but it prevented our dog from getting soaking wet. We climbed down for a little swim when it got too warm. Would love to come back!

This was me and my boyfriend’s first time camping and we absolutely loved camping on John’s property! He was very kind and helpful. Very spacious and private area. There is a lot of space and privacy between you and the RV/Tent camp site. There are a couple spots to fish and the river was so calm and peaceful. This was the perfect campsite, and even for us rookies it was the perfect amount of primitive. The outhouse was clean and well kept as well. It’s closer to the Tent Site than the RV/Tent site if you are wondering. Less than 10 minutes to town if there’s anything that you forgot to bring. We loved it and are already ready to go back!

We had a great stay at the Barnhill Mountain campsite! The place was peaceful and perfect for a little getaway. One of our favorite parts was making s’mores by the fire—everything we needed was included in the package, which was a really nice touch. The host was super communicative and helpful from the moment we booked. Definitely recommend!

We had a great time tent camping by the river. Pet friendly place. Clean bathhouse, and owner available on site if needed. The campsite was beautiful and so peaceful.

We had the whole camp to ourselves which was so nice. It was quiet and there was a fun creek for the kids to play in. Some of the bathrooms could use some more upkeep but other than that we had a great stay and Damon was very nice!

We stayed on here for 2 nights for our hiking trip.. and absolutely loved it. There was plenty of space at the primitive camp site (camping in the woods) and the Mountain View site for our group of 6 people (3 tents). The hot tub was perfect for our sore bodies after hiking for 2 days. The bathhouse was clean, modern, and spacious. The view from the Mountain View camp site is unreal.. we will definitely be returning for and hiking we do in the area! Very private, relaxing, and convenient well worth the price! We had a fantastic stay at the campsite with a hot tub! The view was so pretty and peaceful. The carport was a great spot to setup our kitchen. The bathhouse was way closer than expected and the nicest one I’ve seen! We are definitely going back!!

We had an incredible time staying at Barnhill Mountain top campsite! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the peaceful surroundings made for a perfect getaway. You'll be staying on our farm, which is a working horseback riding and equine therapy facility as well as a sanctuary for many other animals (including mini cows, turkeys, chickens, a pig, alpacas, goats, and a llama!) But don't worry, your campsite is surrounded by beauty and privacy. Enjoy walking through the woods, sharing a picnic while visiting with the animals, or just having relaxing in nature! We also sell farm fresh eggs by the half-dozen for $2, so you can cook your own egg breakfast if you would like! Our campsites are rustic. We do provide a port-a-potty on site as well as 7 gallons of drinking-safe water. There is a King Camp portable shower on-site, and we live on site at the front of the property in case of emergency. Chimney Rock State Park is 25 miles east and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Or perhaps go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This property is situated on 50 acres, surrounded by private property with views of the nearby Pisgah National Forest and a 10 minute drive to DuPont State Forest. Campsites are adjacent to the French Broad River. Excellent fishing and boating. It is heavily populated by deer and other wildlife. For this reason, dogs must be kept on a leash. Please note that due to the campground being in low-lying land, the drive in is subject to being slick and muddy, 4WD is always recommended. Message us with any questions. Due to the property proximity to the river and situated in floodway, the sites are subject to flooding during heavy rain events. Voluntary and/or mandatory evacuation may be necessary during any reservation due to high waters or forecast for high water events. If evacuation is necessary, unused portions of reservation will be refunded. Campers are advised to be self-sufficient with water and shower facilities. We do provide a port a potty and firewood is for sale on site (Venmo, PayPal or cash). IF YOU ARE CAMPING WITH A RV OR TRAILER, PLEASE CONTACT US TO DISCUSS A SITE. All sites can accommodate smaller RV camper units. However, larger RV's have limited site availability. Campsites are situated along the river edge. Embankments are steep and near deep water. Although not prohibited, constant supervision for children is a must to avoid serious injury due to natural hazards. Nero Coffee's Camping Spot has three ways to camp. Site 1: Glamping in my custom built (and way too adorable) mini A frame cabin. This cabin is tucked in the rhododendrons for complete privacy. Enjoy the super comfy bed and unique lifting side door to let the outdoors in :) or Site 2: Camping with room for up to 8 guests. There are multiple sites and so much room to spread out for groups up to 8 people. This year I am only opening tent camping for one group at a time so you can experience the mountains in the most peaceful setting. You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. Beautiful location with a view of Table Rock located in the Historic Oolenoy Valley. Our property is located in Northern Pickens Co. of South Carolina. Plenty of trails, boating, biking in the area or just sit under your awning and enjoy the wildlife. Important please read! There is not evening shade in July and August, However, there are shady spots very close to the camp site that you can enjoy. Where your camper sits the Sun goes down at the front of the camper. It is typically not an issue until mid-July and August. If you need additional details, please contact me. There are two homes near the camp site. The one behind the site is our home. Just me and my wife, currently no pets. The other home is a small white farmhouse that I currently rent to close friends. Chris and his wife and two well behaved kids. The kind of neighbors' people dream of! In five years of renting this site I have only had one couple that felt uncomfortable with the homes on our driveway.
