Sharing our land with you and providing a space to create memories that will hopefully last a lifetime has been a great joy to us. Thank you for spending time with us and, as always, happy camping. Sarah and Stein * Camp Blackbird is a 28 acre property that runs along Beltzville State Park in Carbon County, PA. So besides the camp, there is an additional 3,002-acres of state park to explore. There are a total of 2 sites. The land was vacant for decades and unfortunately used to dump household garbage during that time. We cleaned up the land, built a home and bat habitat. We, Sarah and Stein, always disliked renting a camp site somewhere and then ending up on top of people. So it was our goal to make space on our land for campers like us that want to be surrounded by nature, not other camp sites. A portion of the proceeds from your stay will be donated to bat habitat conservation and bat sanctuaries around the world. We are grateful for the hundreds of campers that have stayed with us. Thank you to all of you that have left a clean site and not made unnecessary noise that would disturb the countless species that share the forest with us. Also, Thank You for patronizing local businesses while you are here. We'll give you a map so you can see where to take a short walk to get to the lake. There are miles of hiking trails a few minutes walk from your campsite. Beltzville Lake is a great place for paddling. The boat launch is just a few minutes drive from Camp. In addition to the beautiful immediate surroundings, we are centrally located near many exciting destinations. Year round activities at Blue Mountain Resort, adventure on The Appalachian Trail, fine dining, biking the rail trail and whitewater rafting in Jim Thorpe, all within a 25 minute drive. The property is not suitable for parties or events. The area is a QUIET ZONE. Ideal for people looking to unplug from it all and become one with nature. It is teaming with wildlife and is ideal for birding. The hosts mission is to disturb wildlife and its habitats as little as possible. VERY IMPORTANT - NO PARTIES or unregistered guests on the property. There are other campgrounds in the area that are great for people who want to party. We welcome pets. Please add your photos! Our property consists of 20 acres of the beautiful Blue Mountain. At the Lookout you can see for 40 Miles across the valley below. With views from Allentown, Lyons and Reading.  The area with the view is a shared area for both sites. Feel free to use the fire ring while you sit and watch the evening sky. It is breathtaking at night.  At the bottom of the mountain there is a Gunclub with a shooting range and you will hear shooting from the property. Please note it is far away and there is no danger Our property is mostly the mountain side. But with an area that is flat for tent camping. The property is close to Route 309 but there is a camping area away from the road. Our land is next to the road and you will hear some road noise. We are next to National Parks land which also consists of the Appalachian Trail and also against the Pennsylvania Game Lands. You can walk up the street or trail to Thunderhead Lodge Restaurant. Leaser lake is a short drive if you like fishing or kayaking. The Wanamakers Store is a unique place to visit with amazing sandwiches. The Wanamakers and Kemton railroad is close by for a weekend train ride. Bear Rock Junction is close by for mini golf and ice cream. Eight Oaks Distillery is only a few minutes away. Several wineries and antique shops as well. You may also see Appalachian Trail Thru Hikers come thru our property to stay at the hostel. Please welcome our hikers as they come to rest their weary bodies. Welcome to the Lookout. We have made many improvements to our land but also try to maintain the beauty it is. We plan to keep upgrading our property. We plan to use the land for Recreational activites. We have a Hiker Hostel in the Building. Sleep like a log in our one-room charming cabin on a small private lake lot with non-motor boats only. Little Elk Lake is 43 acres. Rowboat plus 1 youth kayak, two adult kayaks and a canoe are available for your use, and we have life jackets in many sizes. We are sorry but the pontoon boat cannot be used by guests. The mild October weather still provides a great opportunity to camp and enjoy the lovely foliage around the lake! Our folks bought this family property in 1953, and it is used and maintained now by our family. We feel blessed to be able to share it with our own children and grandchildren today, and offer it to others to enjoy who may not have such a peaceful and serene spot to relax and unwind. Stay on 10 beautiful acres of rustic, private land with many good camping spots to choose from in grassy areas with lots of trees.  Enjoy boating/fishing/swimming. We have a gazebo at the lake shore, and an anchored swimming float. Kayaks, canoe, rowboat, and peddle boat are available. Lots of wildlife around the lake to enjoy. Campfire ring,  water spigot (private drilled well) and electric available on the property. Neighbor cottage partially visible, but our property is pretty secluded and private. Picnic tables and chairs provided.  Well behaved pets okay, leashes may be required.  Mostly level terrain, ample parking area.  Very peaceful here.  My favorite place to relax, with a guitar and a glass of wine! Choose your own campsite; spots are reasonably private and secluded. Mowed paths throughout camping section; both sunny and shady spots on both sides of stream.  The lake and dock area and the boats, the gazebo, and metal fire ring and picnic tables, are communal. Parking is in a large gravel area behind cottage. Campsites are located across a small stream, easily accessible (less than a 3 min walk) from the parking area.  Path immediately next to parking leads to a nice camping area alongside stream. Truck and car-top tents in the parking area may be allowed upon request. We ask that cars stay in the parking area, but there is a wheelbarrow for use in transporting your gear to the spot you choose. There is no bathroom. (Cottage is private.)  You must pack it out, or bring your own portable toilet with disposable liner bags.  Trash and recycling cans are provided. No shower, but the lake is great for swimming - even in FALL!

Our HOA requires a tenant registration form filled out and submitted a week prior to arrival ( for last minute bookings, you will need to submit this form back as soon as I send it with your confirmation). *For lake fishing: You need a fishing license to fish in any lake in PA. Security and Game commission does show up to check so make sure you are in compliance. Host will not be responsible for you ticket violation if caught. Our dock will only allow up to 1000 lbs of weight at once, about 4-6 persons and less if carrying a boat to launch. Guests will wear life vests on the dock, boats and swimming on the lake. Guests will not leave any personal belongings on the dock or leave out chairs to avoid any loss of property. Guests will not release the floating dock off the secured attachment on the shore anchor. We have a Well water system, bring your own preferred water bottle for drinking. We have a water filtration system for the house and a Brita if you would like to use it. We also have a queen sofa pull out bed in the living room and a futon in the largest room for when you need it. Our home is fully equipped w/ stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, stove/oven, blender, dishware/flatware, drip coffee maker, Keurig, toaster, spices, bar seating. Firewood is not included. Bring your own firewood for the fire pit.

Eric was a great host and met us in the driveway. I personally like to meet the host to know where I'm camping vs. trying to figure it out in the dark. I definitely recommend trying to meet Eric so he can tell you where to go. Spot was gorgeous and was exactly what we'd hoped for. 4x4 was required for the snow camping we did but wouldn't be in dry weather.

I enjoyed my stay at the Organic Farm in the Pocono Mountains. Eric greeted me on my arrival and the space I stayed was serene. They were hospitable and available for questions and hiking suggestions. I also felt safe being a solo camper. The Delaware Water Gap was less than 20 min away from the campsite!

The campsites at the organic farm are great, spacious and secluded. A lot of birds and several deer were attracted by the pond. The farm is very close to the city and the trails, at very convenient spot for everything one needs. Communication with Eric was excellent! I would come again anytime.

A few of the oak trees still had bright yellow leaves but most other trees were bare leaving for a beautiful view through the trees from site 2. The gun range was a little annoying and so was the traffic. You’re at the top of a long incline on 309 so most cars and trucks are high rpm rounding the peak. After a certain hour the gun range shuts down and so does the traffic for the most part. The portapotty was probably the cleanest I’ve ever experienced. Great spot for bird watching! A little late in the season to catch the migration but still awesome. Very close to the AT which was convenient. Might be a nice spot to day hike from some time.

Weekend Trip to Paper Mill Pines Glamping Getaway

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Allen and the kids, and had such a pleasant experience. He drove out belongings and some of us down the the glamping site and was kind and welcoming. The tent was clean, comfortable and warm. We had all the firewood we needed, cooking supplies, composting toilet in the outhouse, water. My husband and I had a great time with our son and teenage nephews. Highly recommend the beautiful surrounding scenery of the lake and woods and wildlife. I didn’t get to meet Donna, but she is very friendly and communicative. Thank you for a great stay!

We had a wonderful two-night stay at Site 2. The space feels private, yet it’s just a short walk to the shared main area, which has an amazing view, a bathroom, and firewood for purchase. From Site 2, you can see a few hikers pass by on the trail, and you can hear cars on the road above as well as occasional gunshots from a nearby gun club but none of it was bothersome. It was actually nice to feel secluded while still being close to things. I appreciated reading previous reviews that mentioned these details beforehand, so nothing was surprising. Access to the trail was easy, and Site 1 looked great as well. We would definitely return!

Fantastic place to camp. Susan is the best host. Really takes care of the land, maintains the campsites, and makes sure you have everything you need. This site in particular was tucked back in the woods just enough to feel secluded, but you still had an awesome view out over the open field / hill.

This glamping tent was PERFECT!!! Donna, Alan, and Tyrion 🐱 were perfect hosts. The heater in the tent was great for the colder nights and my puppy loved the land to sniff around. Very close to Rickette’s Glen state park and local to some cidery’s and winery’s. We even checked out a drive-in movie when we were there. If you’re looking to unplug and to have some privacy, this is perfect :)

🍁Paper Mill Pines Glamping Getaway is a lovely Hipcamp in Shickshinny, PA. Words can not adequately convey just how amazing this place is. 🏕️. The serenity of the wind and trees, tranquility of the pond, the sight of the crackling campfire, sounds of birds chirping, roosters crowing, and critters scurrying about in the fallen leaves - and the calm of morning, with stillness sitting all around you. It is just so peaceful. Being in nature feeds your soul. We will absolutely be back! 🍂

1 night at Close to Ricketts Glen State Park

Had such a lovely stay with Jackie and Chris. Not only were they super accommodating of our last minute booking, they moved our campsite to one safer and dryer in the weather. We spent a beautiful cozy night despite the rain, we even got to have a little fire before it got too wet! Wood bundles for purchase are large and generous. Got to meet both Chris and Jackie and felt like we'd known them for years. Highly recommend this sweet little spot-- we'll be back!!
