Bring a friend and rent this site in conjunction with some of our other sites or split up your camping trip with a night in our backcountry camp site. Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet.
Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails.
From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location.
We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. 2026 we will be planting another 600 native trees and shrubs consisting of 55 species!

Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres with hiking trails cut throughout.
A common area has a Fire Ring, Outhouse, Water Station, Picnic Tables and Seats, where you can socialize with fellow campers, whether they be family, old friends, or new acquaintances.
Or you can retreat a short distance away to your own campsite, for some alone time. The two campsites are adjacent to each other, but divided by walls of brush and newly planted shrubs. You may hear other campers, but your space is well defined. It is approximately 100 ft from the center of one campsite to the next, and a similar distance from the center of each campsite to the common area.
Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The main pond seen from the parking area is off limits for liability reasons. I am working on a smaller ravine pond in the woods, which I will stock with fish for feeding.
This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite. Do not bring your own firewood.) We have a self serve store, that will have charcoal, farm fresh eggs, and other seasonal and camping items. Bring some cash.

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions.
Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek.
Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit.
There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc.
No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire.
Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy.
Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less.
An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin.
No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles.
Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire.
8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave.
We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat.
No motorcycles on the driveway.
You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks.

Welcome to our 40-acre slice of heaven, where hand-painted trail signs made by kids mark paths like "Coyote Howl Overlook" and "Firefly Lane." This is "The Land" - our family's private retreat that we're excited to share with you for the first time.
You'll choose your campsite from spots throughout the woods with great star views - you'll often catch shooting stars on clear nights. Until now, only our friends and family have camped here, so you're among the first to experience this special place.
Three miles of well-maintained trails are the real star here, winding up and down hills all over the property. The trails take you through woods, valleys, and fields with plenty of wildlife like deer and turkey. There's a shallow creek where you can bring your boots for creek walking and lift up rocks to find crawfish, plus a natural spring to discover. For the adventurous, there's even a steep "mud chute" that requires a rope to navigate down - it's a blast! Don't miss the homemade tree swing for old-fashioned fun.
Beyond exploring, you can tour our orchard and meet our chickens who lay beautiful rainbow eggs - help collect them if you're up for it. We can serve you a farm-to-table breakfast with those fresh rainbow eggs and vegetables from our garden, or set up something really special with an outdoor dinner under string lights. As a retired hotel operator who traded the hotel business for farming, I love making sure guests feel welcome and taken care of.
The Land is fantastic for little kids who love adventure, dogs who need room to run, and groups looking for privacy. The combination of safe exploration and hands-on farm experiences makes for memories that stick.
You'll have a fire ring and level spot for your tent. Firewood is available. Check in at the cabin to charge devices and use WiFi if needed - cell service is good too. There's also a large fire pit on a hilltop overlooking the orchard with incredible star viewing. We build a fire there each night and can offer s'mores if you're not up for making your own fire. Your campsite requires a hike from parking, but our ATV and trailer can haul heavy gear.
We are 15 minutes from town and 10 minutes from Senecaville Lake for swimming or boating.

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions.
Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek.
Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit.
There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc.
No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire.
Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy.
Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less.
An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin.
No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles.
Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire.
8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave.
We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat.
No motorcycles on the driveway.
You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks.

Welcome to our 40-acre slice of heaven, where hand-painted trail signs made by kids mark paths like "Coyote Howl Overlook" and "Firefly Lane." This is "The Land" - our family's private retreat that we're excited to share with you for the first time.
You'll choose your campsite from spots throughout the woods with great star views - you'll often catch shooting stars on clear nights. Until now, only our friends and family have camped here, so you're among the first to experience this special place.
Three miles of well-maintained trails are the real star here, winding up and down hills all over the property. The trails take you through woods, valleys, and fields with plenty of wildlife like deer and turkey. There's a shallow creek where you can bring your boots for creek walking and lift up rocks to find crawfish, plus a natural spring to discover. For the adventurous, there's even a steep "mud chute" that requires a rope to navigate down - it's a blast! Don't miss the homemade tree swing for old-fashioned fun.
Beyond exploring, you can tour our orchard and meet our chickens who lay beautiful rainbow eggs - help collect them if you're up for it. We can serve you a farm-to-table breakfast with those fresh rainbow eggs and vegetables from our garden, or set up something really special with an outdoor dinner under string lights. As a retired hotel operator who traded the hotel business for farming, I love making sure guests feel welcome and taken care of.
The Land is fantastic for little kids who love adventure, dogs who need room to run, and groups looking for privacy. The combination of safe exploration and hands-on farm experiences makes for memories that stick.
You'll have a fire ring and level spot for your tent. Firewood is available. Check in at the cabin to charge devices and use WiFi if needed - cell service is good too. There's also a large fire pit on a hilltop overlooking the orchard with incredible star viewing. We build a fire there each night and can offer s'mores if you're not up for making your own fire. Your campsite requires a hike from parking, but our ATV and trailer can haul heavy gear.
We are 15 minutes from town and 10 minutes from Senecaville Lake for swimming or boating.

This campsite is beautifully situated on an active Amish farm in Chesterhill, Ohio. There’s a fire pit and outhouse for your use. There are no hookup’s, but you can bring your off grid camper or tents.
Emanuel and Lilly operate a stunning 60+ acre farm, wood shop, gardens, and chicken coop. Both are wonderful people and always a pleasure to just sit back and have a nice leisurely chat. They belong to a traditional Amish group, so there isn't electricity on site.
There are special booking guidelines because the family does not have telephone, however, someone is generally available at the farm house. Once you set up on site Emanuel will stop down to say hello and make sure your settled in just fine.

J was very hospitable and the space was perfect for a weekend away with my husband. We camped here in January, so it was pretty cold outside but so cozy with the wood burning stove inside the cabin. There are lots of trails to explore the property and are easily accessible from the cabin. The hills are steep though, but worth the climb!

This place is one of a kind. The cabin is super cozy while simultaneously feeling connected to nature with a ton of big windows that really bring in the outdoors. The amenities and little touches are first rate including a complete mini cook's kitchen, awesome lighting to fit any mood, a ton of games, great reading material, and stacked firewood for the charming indoor wood burner. The cabin is very charming and a great jumping off point for Eastern Ohio adventures! PS - Super clean and the hosts were very friendly.

Awesome little cabin. My girlfriend and I are used to car camping so this was a huge upgrade haha but the cabin is everything that you need on a camping trip. A place to stay out of the elements, a bathroom, a couple of beds, and a little bit of land to yourself. Nothing overboard and everything you need. Worth noting; the owner was very on top of responding back. Very polite and definitely put a lot of thought into the guests with the cabin. Definitely recommend!

This was an awesome place to camp! Usually I don't see the host much, but this host was very friendly and accommodating. The site was about 0.25 miles from where our car parked and he brought all of our things there for us in his trailor. He even came back later to help us blow up our air mattress. The land itself was so secluded and really quite. There is a spring with fresh drinking water. You can see so many stars at night too!

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp
Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres.
We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors.
Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need.
Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

I wish we’d had more time to explore the Appalachian Retreat. It was a lovely and lush piece of land and the little a-frame was very cute and comfortable. I appreciated all of the cool design features of the cabins and outhouse. We only arrived late at night, slept well and had to head out in the morning.

Really cute A-Frame with everything you need to enjoy a time away. The property has many trails to explore and plenty to see without ever getting in your car. The cabin was comfortable and equipped with many nice add ons, aside from the occasional expected creepy crawler. Nice small generator that kept all of our devices charged, and a nice bathroom and comfy bed. Definitely recommend!

What a killer spot. Lizzies RV Retreat is peaceful, remote, and just about perfect. The dark skies are unreal for stargazing, and the camping area has everything you could want. Fire pit, composting toilet, elevated deck for tent campers, cooking tools, and even a 50 amp hookup for those of us who like a little juice in the trailer.
The property backs right up to Wayne National Forest with trails leading straight out from camp. There are vernal pools to check out and plenty of wildlife. Coyotes howling, owls hooting, and total quiet otherwise. You’re only about 15 minutes from Marietta too, where you can grab a drink and some great food at Black Diamond Distillery or hit up the local shops downtown.
Jay was an awesome host. Super friendly, stopped by to chat, shared some cool history about the land, and showed us his on site camper that he remodeled from top to bottom. It looks fantastic and is available to rent.
Jay rides too, so for the motorcyclists out there, this spot is perfect for motorcycle camping. Routes like 26 and 800 are nearby and make for some great rides.
Highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back.

Fantastic last minute stay. I needed a place quickly and Bill was communicative and accommodating. The location was easy to find; parking was below their main building and camp was maybe 150 feet from there down a path/lane. Very easy access, but be prepared to haul stuff a little way to the camp. The actual campsite is fantastic. It’s very private, situated very nicely on a clearing surrounded by a heavily wooded area, a three sided shelter, fire pit, and latrine. There are a few short trails down over the hill.
I heard coyotes and barred owls all night. Very lovely experience.

Great location… very clean… remote enough to be disconnected, but close enough to a gas station/convenient store/highway in case you need anything. Has everything you need. Above all are the owners Tom and Melissa. We originally booked to stay a few months ago, we showed up on the first day, but had to leave within an hour of arriving due to an accident my son had at home. We left immediately and left all of our luggage, coolers, clothes, etc. Not only did they refund our money, but Tom also loaded up all of our stuff and found a way to meet my dad a few days later to give him our things which was a huge help given the situation we were in at the time. It was a 3 hour drive for us and they split the drive with my dad to help. We appreciate them more than they will ever know for helping us during the worst time of our lives.

This is a really well thought out little off grid cabin. Clean and cozy, and the stove and lamps they leave for you are really nice. At night we slept in the loft with the window open and listened to the owls all night. We will be back!
