Weekend Trip to Hemlock & Hobbit Forest

A perfect cozy spot for those spending time in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It was 10-15 minutes away from the trailheads we wanted to visit and from downtown Penisula. The bed was comfortable, and the whole cabin was welcoming and beautiful.

Weekend Trip to Barrel Run Creek

Booked a night here pretty spur of the moment and it’s not really camping season yet so I was surprised to see firewood stocked. We had a kid with us that was new to camping so this was a great first trip for him. The kids explored and the parents relaxed. This is close to my office so I’ll be adding it to my favorite.

It was a great stop! It was cozy and warm and perfect for our stop on the way to Indiana dunes national park.

Great place to enjoy some down time! The property is beautiful, camp sites are spread out. Location is convenient and close to town. I did some hot tent camping. Would love to revisit during the different seasons to enjoy. Appreciate Rick's communication and hospitality! This place is a great find!

1 night at Hemlock & Hobbit Forest

I didn't stay in the cedar cabin, it was too cold and the roof was leaking when I scheduled so the wonderful host graciously offered me her much cozier "hobbit" house, which was essentially the same size but warmer. I have to say it was one if the coolest eco friendly houses I've ever stayed in! Really thoughtful attention to details such as the assymetric construction based on the layout of the slope and hillside. An inspiring example of how human structures can interact organically with, and even be enhanced by the natural world. All of this is only to say the host is a really welcoming, and vibrant individual and such a wonderful property is surely an extension of their warm artistry.

3 nights at Barrel Run Creek

Went there for Thanksgiving stayed on site BRX01 and of course I was the only idiot camping this time of year. Even though it was cold Nick provided plenty wood on the site and all through out if you need more. Each site has plenty of room makes you feel like your in your own piece of property. Would comeback under warmer conditions.

We bought our teardrop here in early November. Even with most of the leaves on the trees down it was nice. No interference from the neighbors. Wood was available for purchase and stacked nicely. We had a lovely fire Saturday night. We would stay again

Bass and Buck Tent Adventures

With over 230 acres, a lake, trails, the Grand River, and plenty of wildlife. Bass and Buck Adventures is the perfect place to get away. Once known as Parkman Gorge the valley was a hub for water powered industry in the early 1800's. The river and valley is home to a wide array of wildlife. Deer, turkey, eagles, hawks, owls, mink, river otters to name a few. The area also attracts many song birds including a wide variety of warblers. There is also an abundance of wild flowers. The valley is rich in Native American history. Many artifacts have been found on the property. My great grandfather talked about the last Native American to live in Parkman had a cabin on one of the bluffs along the river. In the 1820's there was a water powered sawmill and forge on the river. The boy scouts used the valley for a camp in the 1930's. My grandpa purchased this property in the 50's from Ohio Edison. Ohio Edison's plan to dam up the river for hydro power never materialized. The valley has been a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, "jeeping". Many of the items used for the camp sites have been reclaimed. The fire rings are old tractor rims and scrap steel. The tent platform is from reclaimed deck lumber. The firewood is excess cutoffs purchased from a local sawmill. Blueberry Farm Campsites

We have lived here since 2004, the blueberries have lived here for over 60 years. This site has more topography than most of the surrounding county. Learn more about this land: Several sites available on an organic blueberry farm near Oberlin College and Lake Erie. Blueberries are ripe in July. Site #2 is down by the Chance Creek, about 1/2 mile from the driveway. Very peaceful down there - a walk-in site. Site #1 is about 100 yards from the driveway, Site #1 also has access to a small shed. Both sites are woodsy and away from neighbors, roads and houses, however the interstate is not far. When the wind blows from the north you can barely hear it, but when a south wind blows and/or there is rain on the interstate, it can be pretty loud. We don't have a latrine. We have two "luggable-loo's" if you need them, have liners, too.

The sites comes stocked with firewood, trash can and picnic table. Located behind the main vineyard of Barrel Run Winery, you are a short walk to the bathroom we leave unlocked for campers if you choose. We have closed the winery but the campsites remain.
