1 night at Hideaway Hills Primitive Camp

We had the best time at Hideaway Hills! The site itself is spacious and beautifully laid out with plenty of room to spread out, unwind, and truly enjoy nature. The hosts thought of everything: they provided fresh water, a fire starter, and even a lighter, which made getting settled in super easy. The site was much larger than expected (pictures def don’t do it justice!) and we had plenty of room for us to spread out, which is nice when traveling with teenagers. The privacy tent and camp toilet were thoughtful touches that made the primitive setup feel so much more comfortable. My husband and I really enjoyed our coffee in the morning on the deck while the kids slept in, soaking in the peaceful surroundings before the day got going. Fishing was absolutely amazing (the catfish are HUGE) and the nearby hiking trails were well marked and full of wildlife. We saw deer just off the trail, and the kids got a kick out of the owls hooting all around us. Even though we didn’t bring our dogs this time, we definitely will next time! The site is incredibly dog-friendly, with water bowls, treats, and the sweetest resident dogs It’s rare to find a place that feels this peaceful and secluded, yet so welcoming. Kelli and Doug went so above and beyond, you instantly feel like family. Can’t wait to come back!

I’ve stayed at this campground multiple times, and I have to say—it’s one of the best, if not the best. The hosts go above and beyond to make your stay even better, whether it’s bringing you an extra lighter or helping you up the hill to your campsite. They’ve got you covered! This is my favorite place to camp, and I’ll keep coming back—so should you!

3 nights at Private Forest Campsite

The most perfect camping experience. Felt secluded and in the middle of a forest, without being completely disconnected. I had cell service the whole time and felt very safe, especially camping alone. Beth was an amazing host and was just a text away. If you’re feeling like camping on your own to escape real life for a little bit, this is where you want to go.

Absolutely love this site! This site was super private with hiking around the property, great views, and even a compostable toilet! Beth set up a geocache shortly before our stay and it’s amazing. Bring goodies to trade out on your exploration! Could not hear the sheep dog per previous reviews, but Beth did leave earplugs just in case. Loved the private stream and seclusion of the site from the rest of the world. 10/10, will be coming back!

The farm and campsite was beautiful. We visited in the winter and there was snow on the ground which added to the scene. Getting there was easy and they are willing to help haul your gear back to the campsite. Site was very private and relaxing.

A beautiful secluded campsite, very quiet and peaceful. Farm animals and a small fishing pond, and trails in the woods, were great attractions for kids. Beth is the Best! She is very accommodating and helpful. Oh, BTW, you need to bring chairs.

Nestled under the shade bequeathed by a tall canopy of deciduous trees and alongside a gentle flowing brook, lies a forest opening perfect for immersing oneself in nature. From our parking area, our private campsite is a short walk (3-4 minutes) by way of a well maintained footpath which leads you alongside a farm pasture, to a wooded trail that empties on to a level forest understory ideal for your hammock or tent. Our campsite is equipped with the necessities: a firepit with a removable grill, a table, your own private outhouse, and unlimited sights and sounds of nature. Trails leading from the campsite will usher you short distances to one of our best stargazing hilltops, to the shallow creek which runs alongside the campsite, through shaded forests and ridgetop views. Our pond, a short 7 minute hike, offers fishing, swimming or simply relaxing on the dock. For longer hikes, all trails connect to our larger network of maintained trails winding over hill and dale, through shaded forests and open (mowed) pasture trails offering the hiker farm-life views across our 80 acres. To make your packing lighter and your stay more comfortable, we offer the following "extra items" at an additional cost. We put a horse farm on the land in 2000. The horses here are my family and I want to expand and offer more opportunities on the land. That's when I came across Hipcamp! Located outside of Catlettsburg, Ky, in the community of Durbin, our 50 acres are on a one-lane, dead end road which makes for a peaceful, quiet night’s sleep under the stars and amongst the trees. Our sites are completely primitive (no running water, no electricity, no sewer), hike-in or 4WD accessible only, in several locations on the hills behind our residence. Potable water (2.6 gallons in a jug with spout) and portable toilet in privacy tent provided. (Privacy tent can also double as a shower if you have a portable shower system) *We will take you to your site with our side-by-side if needed* All sites are ideal for tent campers, overlanding-style rigs, or possibly a small, off- road trailer/camper, with fire ring and firewood provided at each site. You will have access to all trails (for hiking only) and shared access to the fishing pond (Catch and Release only at this time). There are plenty of trees for shade, hammocks, etc. There is also an abundance of wildlife: Birds, deer, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, bobcats, coyotes, and even an occasional black bear. Large firepit at pond for socializing, if desired. Quiet time from 10pm to 8am as a courtesy to other campers.
