Welcome to this historic place! We're glad you chose to stay on our property. Take a walk back in time down the path and see the old corn crib and hog pen, where hogs once helped feed our family and many others. Just beyond, on the right, are the remains of an old cabin that once housed the farm workers who tended this land. Farther along, you'll find a block barn that was used to store tobacco before it went to market. Nearby stands an old tobacco barn where our great-grandfather and his four children hung freshly picked tobacco while small fires below cured the leaves. Continue down the main path until you reach a fork. Turn right and head to the lowlands, where you'll find a cool, rock-bottom creek perfect for wading. Explore upstream or downstream, and you may even discover a deep swimming hole for a refreshing dip. Follow the trail up the hill into the hardwoods and pines, where you might spot interesting rock formations. Across the road from the front gate and house, a path winds through the plantation pines and opens into an old farm field. Years ago, these fields grew tobacco, corn, beans, and hay for cattle. Continue through the field and into the woods, keeping an eye out for Native American artifacts, as this was once their home as well. Beyond the trees lies the Hyco River, our property boundary. You can follow the river to the bridge or enjoy fishing and swimming wherever you find a safe spot, always at your own risk. At night, you may hear coyotes in the distance, and in the early morning, wild turkeys calling from their roosts. Please be respectful of other guests enjoying the property. With 400 acres to explore, there's plenty of room to spread out and make memories. Keep campfires contained within a fire pit and extinguish them completely with water before leaving. The coals should be cool enough to touch safely, with no smoke or steam remaining. We hope you'll enjoy our property as much as we do and help us keep it beautiful by packing out all trash when you leave.

If you're visiting the Triangle or Triad area, this spot could easily be a great home base. Full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) with plenty of room for even the longest rigs, it's quiet at night and the neighbors are very friendly. Wake up to the sound of roosters and an explosion of birds, and fall asleep with fireflies dancing in the woods outside your window. I'm a full time traveler and from Chapel Hill, so stayed here a month visiting family and friends. James and his family (and chickens!) were a delight and I highly recommend his place on your next stop in the area. Less than an hour from Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. 40min to RDU.

We stayed here due to its location within a few miles of our family/friends. Monte is a very friendly host and very welcoming. My husband was working remote through the day and we went to our friends’ home in the evenings. I spent daytime hours exploring the area recreation areas and parks, of which there are many. There is a lot of contracting type activity that goes on around the site during the day but it quiets down at night. We were also there Sunday-Sat and weren’t there over a weekend. If you are looking for seclusion and camping in the woods, this site would not be for you. If you are looking for a jumping off point for exploring the area, work, or visiting family/friends, this site works fine.

Monte and Tracy (and Woody of course) are wonderful hosts and you don’t leave there without establishing a long term friendship! 50amp, water and sewer hookups were all new and worked perfectly. They held an evening fire down at the wood pile where all the guests are welcome and encouraged to come, have a beer, relax and tell stories! Great nature walks to see beaver dams or other critters of the beautiful surrounding woodlands. Our dog Cali loved the nature walks! We will definitely come back to visit our new friends again!
