My property consists of a ridge running east to west with the access road running along the south border. the land slopes up to the ridge for about 300 feet, and then down to the river for about 800 feet. The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.

Things to know: Parking is a 3 min walk down the trail from the Yurt and is along the road. When there has been a lot of rain the trail can be slick in some places. I don't spray insecticide around or under the Yurt to avoid toxins in the creek and lake. There is wildlife and bugs in the area, frogs, fox, otter, raccoons, deer, snakes, mosquitos, fireflies, ants and spiders. It is a canvas tent and it is camping, it is on a wood deck that does have small space between the boards. It does have a fan to help with ventilation, during humid months it can feel stuffy if the windows are closed. July and August are usually the buggiest (spiders) and most humid.

This property is 180 acres of woods and mountains with streams and ponds.
Beautiful settings. If you like hiking in the mountains this will definitely hit the spot. You can fish in the ponds it has blue gills and catfish. I also added grass carp there as part of weed management.
This used to be an abandoned farm which I want to bring back to life.
The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents that are all separate and private.
This is not a KOA style of camping where everyone is on top of each other.
All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you).
Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cool and serene.
Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest.
Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties.
We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay.
The farm is work in progress.
The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away.
Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive.
Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc.
Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing.
Nice swimming beach access on Lake Hickory 13 miles ( 20 Minutes) from here: Lake Hickory Wittenburg access area (Wittenburg Access Area, 175 Wildlife Access Rd, Hickory, NC 28601)
Asheville is 1:25 hrs to the West, Charlotte is 1:25 hr to the East.

Bald Eagles have been seen on April 27th, 2026! The views are hypnotic, looking down and out over the continental divide. Good morning, and sunsets can be seen from the same spot. Your car is parked within feet of your deck, so Car Campers and experienced campers can enjoy. Designed with campers and dogs in mind. The deck is large (384 square feet) with a tin roof. Some are two-thirds, and some are one-third, depending on what one wants for tent size or sun exposure. (See pictures of each site/deck) Each deck features sun and rain curtains to help keep you comfortable in both sunny and rainy weather. Dogs enjoy a two-gate system that allows guests and dogs to be leash-free and away from the road. All dog owners know to pick up after their pets. The human Private Porta John is cleaned frequently. Lights and electrical outlets are 110V (3 prongs) for YOUR coffee pots, electric grills, mattress inflators, crockpots, electric blankets, fans, etc. I do not provide any electrical appliances, other than counter area lighting and low-level string lights, so one can see the night sky. PMany of my campers will "Pay it Forward" and leave coffee pots, hot plates, fans and such, so count yourself lucky to find a deck with them. I provide chairs, 5 gallons of fresh water in containers, a fickle solar shower, and a pop-up changing room, along with an assortment of camping supplies from dog bowls to antimicrobial. I provide various-size garbage bags to manage your garbage. Your parking area is next to the deck. Black Mountain’s tasty restaurants are 4 miles away, and All Trails is an excellent app for finding trails suited for your interests. Be respectful, please.
Private Glamping Decks with a view that pictures do not do justice. Private decks on a dead-end gravel road mean hopefully the sounds will only be of nature. The conveniences of electricity, porta john, water, chairs, table, roof, cleaning supplies, rain curtains, and astounding views have my Glampers coming back often. Designed with Dogs in mind with a two-gate system and no need for a leash when on the deck. Obnoxious, barking dogs are not welcome, so bring only controlled and well-socialized dogs. Help me keep it dog-friendly. Never block the road with a park car.

The yurt was amazing! Large, lots of cute little touches and the power bank was nice for (limited) electricity. It was rainy and cool while there so I didn't use the fan, or propane heater, but great to have if needed. Fun to explore the trails and was a beautiful setting.

An amazing hidden gem in the mountains. It’s the perfect mix of camping and glamping. Doug has the platform ready with water, electric, bag shower, and a very clean portapotty. The double gate system was very helpful with my pups. Grab your coffee maker, a hammock, and spend some time on the deck watching the sun rise. 10/10! I’m shocked this place isn’t booked a year in advance.

I loved the Shady Creek View safari tent! Perfect for two people. The view and access to the creek was perfect, my kids loved getting in and playing every day.
It was very convenient to have a small generator and coffee maker in the tent. I loved sipping coffee on the front porch in the mornings.
The site is indeed very shady as the name suggests, which is great for a hot day! However that means that the tent is very dark also, especially when overcast/rainy. Just make sure to bring plenty of lamps to brighten up the space!
The *only* downside to me was that it is pretty far from the bathrooms. However, the bathrooms were very new and so clean! Just be prepared to walk for a while to get to them.
We liked the space so much that we extended our trip an extra day. Would definitely love to come back some time!

2 nights at Above the Fray Glamping, Black Mtn.
I stayed on deck 279 for two nights... wow, I already miss waking up there this morning. Yesterday morning, the fog slowly rolled in and the night before, there was a sliver of a moon just as the sky was getting really dark. Each morning, I was treated to a whip-poor-will's song and the evening sunsets were colorful and exquisite.
In the afternoons when the sun is setting, it did get bright and hot on the deck so it was a perfect time to sit on the bench up the stairs and read in the shade for an hour or so (no potty odor!).
The outdoor shower, a bag suspended by a pulley (which I filled with the water jugs left for my stay), was an unexpected delight.
If you want a very memorable experience in a spectacularly beautiful setting, this is the place.

We stayed 4 nights so we could spend extra time just hanging out, enjoying the views, reading, playing cards and relaxing. This place is outstanding! The full roof and curtains were great for the rain storm that rolled in. Loved sleeping on the air mattress without a tent, listening to the rain.
The deck had a lot of room for us to enjoy and was very peaceful. We didn’t hear any other guests at the other decks.
The sunny days, again we utilized the curtains and the box fan we brought at night.
This place is truly a gem and a fairly easy drive.
With Downtown Black Mountain a very close trip for dining or bringing food back, this is going to be my go to place to stay!
We’re already discussing when we can return again and definitely will!

What a charming and lovely spot! We spent four days at the Creekside Safari Tent, and could’ve spent more. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, the shelving/storage was super helpful, and the deck and chairs got tons of use. The new bathhouse felt luxurious and was only a pleasant stroll away. Short drives to Marion (adorable!) and fantastic hikes (Catawba Falls!), would recommend to anyone who appreciates the safari tent experience.

Staying at Above the Fray camping site, was an absolutely perfect experience. Even though we had some unfortunate rain during our trip, the covered area and rain curtains made all the difference. We were still able to relax and fully enjoy our time away without any worry about the weather. Doug was incredibly helpful, both as we prepared for our visit and while we were there, making the entire stay smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend Above the Fray for anyone looking for a peaceful and well-thought-out camping experience.

4 nights at Rooster Ridge Cabin
The cabin is clean and comfortable. It is well stocked. We enjoyed using it as base camp. The house is very close to the road and aside from the porches there really is no outdoor space.

We stayed at MTG 1 and it was an awesome camping spot with great views. The atmosphere of meeting other campers at the common area made for a great night! The site was clean and well-maintained, and it was easy to find. Perfect spot for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy nature while still getting to connect with a friendly camping community. Great tent and location, blair was very responsive when we had confusion about which gate to get in.
New bath house is very clean, and with hot showers.
Need better signs on gates to avoid confusion.

Definitely would recommend for fall camping. Loved the cabin we were in. The view of the mountains in the mornings was beautiful. Very clean showers and restrooms. A variety of camping styles on site. Spa was very cute and relaxing and also included a nice view of the mountains.
