Weekend Trip to Hip Kite Camp! Hatteras Island, NC

We had a great weekend staying at the Hip Kite Camp and Scooter communicated well and answered all questions quickly. Very easy to work with. The location is very unique for this area. There is some traffic noise from 12, but not bad at all and you do get a sense of privacy and the bonus of being a few steps from the sound where we took in some great sunsets. We had some windy days, as is common there, but the trees were a great barrier we had no issue with our screened tent and shower tent. Scooter has a bike and kayaks at the location that visitors can use. We had a fun weekend and hope to return soon!

Cool spot. I pulled my 10’ Rustic Trail teardrop and my buddy was in a Dodge Winnebago. I had to back in but it wasn’t a problem. We rode close to 50 miles on several days on our e-bikes. Good central location to ride bikes north and south. Nice spot to hang out on the sound side. We will be back.

Stayed at campsite 1 with a roof top tent. Amazing location, we were able to pull right alongside the firepit and benches along the river, couldn't have been a better set up. Very quiet and peace full spot. the host was extremely polite.

5 nights at Spruill Conservation Farm

This is my 2nd visit. I got lucky and had the whole place to myself for most of my stay! Clean, quiet and beautiful views! I think I saw 3 boats the whole 5 days I was there. I was visited by Tom Turkey a few times and a raccoon was in the area from his little footprints. You will see so many different types of birds, geese, lizards, jumping fish, hawks, eagles, osprey… even one bird that I still haven’t identified. Bring all your water for cooking and drinking. I even have a heated shower, so I brought water for that. Mostly stayed in camp, one day I did go to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge to photograph the bears. If you truly want to disconnect and relax with nature, this is the place to do it.

The site is very calming and nice. We met Julia as we arrived and made sure that the previous camper did not left any trash that can be blamed to us. She also made sure that the porta potty is cleaned. We loved the sunset, kayaking and our dogs enjoyed it too.

Scooter was a great host - very responsive and friendly! This is a great site with access to the water and an amazing sunset view! We enjoyed the cooking area outfitted with a NPS style grill and picnic table. This site felt secluded, eventhough it was close to town. We would definitely return!

Hands down one of the best camping experiences. We wished we could have stayed longer! We spent the night in our camper van parked beside the water. Between the sounds of the waves, an epic sunset, and a clear sky of stars, it was magic. And as many other reviews stated, the Porta Potty was pristine. We took advantage of the kayak rentals and the chopped wood Julia had on site too. Communication was easy and the directions to the campsite were clear. Offering maps of the property at the gate was a great touch! We would love to come back.

The best sunsets we ever experienced! Enjoyed the view and walking trails. Site 2 & 3 were both level and right next to the sound. Julia was very accommodating! The water was rough so found a river nearby to kayak and fish.

The Spruill Conservation Farm is a beautiful place along the Albemarle Sound with campsites close to the water. Campsite #1 had a huge fire pit with group seating, a picnic table and very clean portable toilet. Steps away from the site were several marked, well-maintained trails that skirted along the cypress swamp and adjacent farmland. I really loved this place and would definitely stay over again. I loved reading about the Spruill Conservation Farm history and mission on their website.

Another great stay here! We came with a group this time and rented out all 3 sites. Everyone had a wonderful time. We had plenty of space between sites 1 and 2 to set up all the tents and the fire pit area at site 1 made a wonderful group gathering area for meals and hanging out. The kids and dogos loved the little beach area at site 1 (which was much larger than when we come in the summer and fall). We had site 3 set up as a little fishing retreat/get-away and everyone loved the escape from chaos that comes w group camping trips. The port-o-potties were very clean, as always and very much appreciated! Everyone had such a great time! We can't wait for our next stay!

This site was just what we were looking for: a simple, private campsite to park our teardrop for a few days. It was a great, secluded little base camp to explore the area from. Will definitely be back.

Fantastic spot for a weekend (or longer) getaway, or a stop-in while paddling the Roanoke River. The on-site portajohn was immaculate. The firepit and picnic table/benches at site one were quite handy as well. The on-site nature trails made for excellent wildlife viewing opportunities as well. Julia (host) was very kind and welcoming. I absolutely will book this site again in the future!

We loved camping at Spruill Farm! The directions were clear to get to the campsite and the host was easy to reach. The fire pit was large and well kept with plenty of seating. Plenty of space to park and pitch a tent. The sound was beautiful, we loved falling asleep to the sound of waves

We stayed at site 1. I had my Toyota Tundra and a Rustic Trail Polar Bear teardrop. My buddy was in his Dodge Sprinter campervan and we had plenty of room. All 3 sites looked amazing. The views are beautiful. The hiking trails definitely added to the site. We walked them daily and even did a night hike. Rode our e-bikes to the local marina(Mackeys Landing Restaurant)several times to eat. We also did some paddling. We will definitely be back.
