This site is accessed via a short trail through the trees down a gentle, sloping hill, and finally by a short stairway, and as such it may not be easily accessible for campers with limited mobility.
Located on the grounds of the Duckpond Pottery, The Quack Shack is a secluded treehouse perched along the banks of the French Broad River. The structure is an 8x10 A-frame that transforms via a hinged wall into an open-air cabana with a charming deck that affords spectacular views of the French Broad River and surrounding countryside. The interior of the Quack Shack, with its vaulted 11-foot ceiling and earthen plaster walls, provides a warm glow in a rainforest environment. It is furnished with a comfortable seating area surrounding a coffee table that can be easily converted to a full-size queen bed at night. Our gated, gravel driveway is steep and a half mile long. You will need an all-wheel or 4 Wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway without spinning. There is ample space to turn around to park, but due to the nature of our driveway we limit the length of RV's to no more than 20 feet. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling.
Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood.
You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7.
Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin.
When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there.

We are located right in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. If you are looking for outdoor adventure and a place to unwind and unplug then our property is for you! We are just minutes from Cherokee, Maggie Valley, Sylva and the Great Smoky Mountains Parkway. There’s local shopping in downtown Sylva and Dillsboro or it’s just a short drive to Waynesville, Cherokee and Maggie Valley. Our little town has a number of local craft breweries and restaurants to choose from. If you are outdoorsy check out the numerous hiking trails nearby or even whitewater rafting on the Tuckaseegee River or tubing at Deep Creek, or just sit by the fire and enjoy a nice quiet evening.
Our little camper sleeps up to 4 people comfortably. It has running water and septic as well as a shower and a hot tub to relax in after a long day of exploring.
We offer Spectrum wi-fi, Roku tv with Netflix, Disney Plus, and Apple TV.
We offer a gas grill for cooking and an indoor 2 burner range and microwave as well. There is a 4 cup coffee maker and a single serve Keurig for coffee lovers. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling.
Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood.
You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7.
Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin.
When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there.

The kitchen includes hot water at the sink, an under-counter refrigerator and freezer, a dishwasher, induction cooktop, air fryer/toaster oven, and all your coffee and tea essentials. There’s also an outdoor grill area for your BBQ nights.

The heated bathroom includes a large modern shower, bathroom vanity with a lighted mirror, toilet, and fresh towels.
Sleeping arrangements include two separate lofts accessible by angled ladders. One loft has luxurious king bed and the other loft has two twin beds, all with premium linens. The spacious sectional on the main floor can also be used for sleeping, or you can unfold the comfortable queen floor bed. A smart TV is mounted inside the deck for your entertainment.
Bringing friends or extra kiddos? No problem! There’s an outdoor tent pad area available for additional guests.
Can I get a hot tub? Yes, you can! We’ve added a large private hot tub on the lower side of the deck, complete with a heater for those chilly fall and winter nights. We will be adding a polar plunge area by the branch for guests who want to cool off in style.
Enjoy evenings by the outdoor fire pit, surrounded by nature and the soothing trickling sounds of the branch.
Please note: The glamping deck sits on a shared driveway with neighbor traffic in the early morning and after school hours. While we love animals, this site is pet-free. Neighbors may occasionally walk their pets along the driveway in the afternoon or evening.
We provide firewood, fresh-ground coffee and creamer, tea, cooking spices, all cookware, plates, bowls, and linens for your stay. Please bring your own tent if you’re hosting extra guests.

This was my first-ever Hipcamp stay, and even though the weather was freezing, I absolutely loved it. The site is beautiful, private, and extremely well cared for. Everything was spotlessly clean, and having plenty of firewood and kindling provided was such a welcome touch on cold nights.
Even in the cold, I was still able to enjoy the outdoor shower and hot tub, which made the stay feel extra special. The stargazing was amazing — dark skies, quiet surroundings, and total peace.
The host’s communication was superb from start to finish — clear, responsive, and genuinely thoughtful, which made my first Hipcamp experience feel easy and stress-free.
For those newer to towing like myself, the drive in has a bit of elevation, but it’s manageable and absolutely worth it once you’re settled in.
Overall, this was a fantastic introduction to Hipcamp. I felt safe, comfortable, and truly relaxed. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, private, and well-equipped RV spot near Asheville.

This was absolutely perfect for us, but may have TOO MUCH privacy for some folks. You are truly alone here. Incredible hardwood property. Beautiful hikes, fishing, and drives in the area.
We made it up - no problem - with a 21' camper (25' true length) and a crew cab 2500, but this is about max length (2-3 steep, narrow gravel switchbacks -- 4x4 mandatory). Bring extra leveling blocks and 30' of sewer hose.
For the right people with the right rig, this spot simply can't be beat. Thank you for sharing!

We are frequent campers and this was our first Hipcamp booking. It has ruined us for all future campsites because it set the bar so high!
My wife and I spent Thanksgiving (3 nights) here. This was an amazing property. We stayed in the camping/sheltered site with a HOT TUB !!, amazing views, fire ring, power. Everything we needed for enjoyable cold weather camping. And that heated bath house!!! Unreal, the detail and amenities. Second to none. The on property hiking was so enjoyable. Take a walk to Day Dreamer’s rock. Such a magical experience. We are already trying to find time to bring back the rest of the family. I can not recommend this site enough. We are looking forward to future trips to Indian Creek.

6 nights at Asheville Area Luxury Glamping Deck
My husband and I just finished a fantastic six-night stay at The Deck, hosted by the incredibly thoughtful Nate and Stephani. We were looking for a true escape where we could stay put and minimize extra spending, and this glamping experience exceeded every expectation.
The accommodation itself was perfect for a long stay. We brought plenty of food with us, and the house was stocked with everything we needed to cook and prepare meals daily. It truly felt like a home away from home, right down to the generous extras: we loved finding it fully stocked with coffee, hot chocolate, a variety of teas, and even some complimentary snacks. This thoughtful preparation made it so easy for us to stick to our plan of staying on-site and enjoying the quiet.
The highlight, especially given the cold weather during our stay, was definitely the hot tub. It was heated to the absolute perfect temperature, making the cold air feel crisp and invigorating against the warm water. It was pure bliss, and the view from the deck was magnificent, day or night.
Nate and Stephani are truly amazing hosts—they were completely helpful, considerate, and communicative throughout our whole visit. Their care is evident in every detail of The Deck.
Overall, this was an absolutely amazing place to stay. If you are looking for a relaxing, luxurious, and fully self-sufficient getaway, look no further. We would wholeheartedly recommend it and would love to come back again!

My family loved this Asheville retreat!
This was our first time in the area and although it was a short trip, it was mighty! Jam packed full of tons of touristy activities within the city, but also exploring trails and sights along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nate and Stephanie’s place was the perfect distance to not be too far away, allowing us to enjoy the evening out from under the city lights, but also still close enough to all of the various activities that we did.
Throughout everything we did, my son (7) said the hot tub was his favorite part.
It’s also worth mentioning that when the hosts found out we were arriving well after dark, they made the effort to turn the lights on for us, which most definitely helped with our arrival.
Nate and Stephanie, thank you for allowing us to call your place “home”. We look forward to returning again some day!

My wife and I stayed at Lees site for 4 nights. We just left today and I have to say we did not want to leave. We are avid campers and have stay a lot of places up down the eastern US. This site by far takes our top stay. The availability of well water, power hooks up, and firewood just helped us to tent camp for 4 nights. But how could we not bring up the view? The view of the white rock mountains was so beautiful. It almost makes the site not feel real. It feels like a hallmark movie. The fact that Lee chose to add a hot tub just adds to the site. My wife and I enjoyed our coffee every morning in the hot tub. And if you want seclusion this is it. The drive up to the site from the gate feels like 2-3 miles of driving and you don’t hear a car or a person the whole time you’re there. So 5 stars. Lee does a great job. Clean site and very communicative also. We don’t have a bad thing to say and we will be back. If you’re reading this right now. Stop reading. Go book the site. Oh and make sure you stay 3 nights and have 2 full days there. 1 day there wouldn’t be enough. Trust me.
