Weekend Trip to Winding Stair Campground

We loved camping on Sarah‘s land. We rented the bunk room, which had four twin beds. The bathrooms were clean and the camp area is nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. We look for to our next visit.

The owners were extremely grateful that we were willing to come stay even during a burn ban. The farm is gorgeous! The river noise blocks out any potential noise from other camp sites. I would absolutely come back and look forward to doing so!

2 nights at Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Catherine was great and the property was so cool. Rocks campsite had the river view and sounds I was craving :) Bring hammocks! However, buyer be aware! For riverside campsites like Rocks that were hit badly by hurricane Helene, they are trying to regrow the grass, so no tents/carpets on the grassy areas. That is 90% or more of the flat tent camping space. We found one ok spot for our small (4 person) tent in the pea gravel by the fire pit, so it worked out. But if we had brought a tent that was any larger (like the 6p tent we’ve been eyeballing), or more campers, we would have been out of luck. The other spaces in the pea gravel are not flat, and if you’ve ever slept on a hill you know it is… not great. Maybe they’d have allowed us to switch to another site if we couldn't make it work but I feel you should know (or double check) before you book. Also! Make sure to check for burn bans before you go! Big drought, wildfires in NC, strict burn ban meant that no campfires were had. Check before you go to set your expectations. Still, the amazing spot was worth it for us (2 ppl, 2 dogs). Good times were had and we would come back! And, thanks for the eggs, they were great!

Weekend Trip to Raven Ridge

This place was the perfect weekend retreat. The place felt peaceful and silent—perfect for disconnecting and recharging. There’s a hill right next to the house where you can catch an amazing sunrise and sunset—the view of the Appalachian Mountains turning purple with the sunset light was beautiful. Mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee were my favorite—fresh air, a ton of birds singing, and total calm. At night, the sky was full of stars, perfect for stargazing. The house is really cozy and gives you that feeling of getting back to the basics and simple things of life. The Turkish oven was a fun and different experience for us, and the host, James, along with the people in the community, were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Would definitely come back!

This campground was awesome. I can not say enough great things about it! The site we were in was well marked and a great location. The pavilion and common area by the stream was perfect for lounging, swimming, fishing, and playing. I only came with half of my family but planning coming back real soon with the whole family of 8.

2 nights at Wilderwood Smoky Mountains

We loved our stay in the tiny house! Super comfy bed, very convenient to have a kitchen w/ sink and fridge inside, and bathroom attached. Short walk to the showers, microwave area, etc. We stayed on a chilly March weekend and were kept warm with the provided space heater. Easy ~45 min drive to the sugarlands visitor center at the national park. Lynne was very communicative and kind - thanks for a wonderful stay!

Had an absolutely amazing time staying at Sadie’s Place on the farm. Kim was more than welcoming and the farm itself was wonderful. Beautiful setting with all the farm animals and you’ll make good friends with the dogs there! I highly recommend a stay and look forward to staying again!

We loved staying in the tiny house! It was a wonderful experience. Clean, well appointed, comfortable and so peaceful. Just what we needed!! Lynne was wonderful and communicative. Highly recommend!! 💕

1 night at Raven Ridge

This was such a cool spot! The cow was so nice and came up to greet us as soon as we arrived. The cabin is very cozy and has everything you need to cook a meal, including a small electric stovetop (although we ended up cooking with our skillet over the fire). The bed upstairs is incredibly comfortable and we got some of the best sleep we've had in a while. The weather was perfect when we were there, so we didn't need them, but there is a large space heater and window a/c unit if you're cold/hot. Beautiful property nestled in the hills, a really nice drive through winding mountain roads, and great scenery all around. Would love to come back sometime!

1 night at Raven Ridge

We stayed at Hilltop Cabin as our first stop on a week long road trip from Baltimore to Austin. It was so great to stay somewhere peaceful and beautiful after being in the car all day, and our pup could play and stretch her legs! We were even able to duck into Asheville for dinner when we arrived and for breakfast the next morning as we had never been! The bed was super comfy and the cabin had everything we needed to relax before getting back on the road. Our hosts were friendly and i’m sure would have been accommodating should we have needed anything, but the cabin was perfect and we were totally set as is! Our dog and the cow, Kashi, also started a beautiful friendship. Would love to come back one day :-) Thank you!

Checking in before 5 pm is requested. Later times may be available with prior arrangements. Our farm is very dark and navigating at night is difficult. A few features about our property: - Working farm: Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep and take a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways. - Security: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. James landed on the property in 2009, built a small barn and milked 3 cows for 3 years. Since then; he has been learning construction trades, planting trees and gardening the hillsides. In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months of saturdays for less than $5k. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. We love hosting and nearly everyone enjoys their stay.
