Weekend Trip to Forest Treasure Island

Camp site was nice, Jan and her family were so welcoming! Our kids got along really well and they had so much fun! We went fishing on Norwalk River and that was fun too! Campsite had a nice sized tent and blow up mattresses for us to use! We also got t Fresh farm eggs from the chickens on property and enjoyed them for breakfast!

This was such a gorgeous campsite with thoughtful and hand crafted details. Plenty of space and directly on the river. The bed in the canvas tent was comfortable and the kitchen area was well stocked. Despite it being rainy during our stay we made the most of it and had a wonderful time. We'd love to come back again, but will remember to pack the bug spray next time :)

Weekend Trip to Forest Treasure Island

Stayed here for one night with a buddy and our four girls, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The girls had an absolute blast—especially playing with the adorable puppies, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, and hanging out in the spacious tent. The site was comfortable, well set up, and perfect for a quick escape. We’re already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to The River's Edge

My son and I had a fantastic time. The campsite has an awesome view and access to the river. Thomas was a super attentive host and the site is decked out. The dining tent makes meal prep a breeze and has everything you need - brand new gas grill, pots, pans, cutlery etc. And a working refrigerator…only downside was it rendered my prized new Yeti cooler obsolete lol. You can park your car right at the site for easy car unpacking and repacking. The toilet tent was clean and convenient. Great kayaking rafting and hiking all close by. No cell service (which is honestly kind of great) but if you need the internet in a pinch super easy to pop over to the Outpost restaurant up the road and plug into their WiFi. I’m hoping to go back and bring a bigger crew to enjoy the site as we had tons of extra room at the massive dining table!

Being an animal lover, I was in heaven. The hosts were just as friendly as the animals. What a wonderful place definitely coming back again next year.

Just got back from an amazing camping trip and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The site was beautiful and super private—exactly what we were looking for. The river was perfect for relaxing and added so much to the vibe. Blake, the host, was incredibly helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this spot and would definitely come back!

I had a great time while staying at Paul & Marilyn's. I tent camped for three nights. I ended up staying in the upper camp area with a peek view of the lake. The lower levels have a better view of the lake but I always like being at higher elevation for rain etc. The farm animals were all very friendly. The goats know a sucker when they see one. You have to be careful when preparing food and don't leave your car doors open or you will definitely have a goat friend in your vehicle. There were a few babies which was a bonus. A baby highland cow and two baby goats. I did do a lot of the things on their suggested Google map. I kayaked swan lake, saw a bald eagle, stopped at the park on the water for lunch. I also went to the gorge which was a very cool spot. If you have time and it's warm definitely worth a visit. I also hiked walnut mountain and saw lots of wildlife. Overall a very nice stay, no complaints. Has everything you need if you enjoy rustic camping, animals and seclusion ❤️

2 nights at Paradise Valley Homestead

This would be my 2nd two night camp out here. The grounds are well maintained and clutter free. You can purchase firewood as you enter the property. I recommend their wood. For a $10 bundle, you get a lot. I chose site #9 this trip. It is in a more remote part of the property. Your Honda Civic won't make it! Definitely doable in a SUV with reasonable clearance. I have a Jeep although not needed, I got back there no problem. I am now into hammock camping and this spot was perfect. They provide a fire ring of sorts so as not to make a fire on the ground. There were a couple of campers way out of earshot and I only saw them on the way out. There are plenty of places to explore on foot or like me with my Jeep, some exploring the rocky roads just outside her property. Be aware, these are bare bones sites. No picnic tables, fancy restrooms with showers or even porta potties. They use composting toilets, relatively common in the back country. Clean and oder free. I definitely enjoyed the solitude in site 9, but there are others just as enjoyable, and easier to get to as the road is better graded.

1 night at Destination Farnch

Mike was super nice and responded quickly. He allowed me to stay for a night last minute. There was a picnic table and firepit. There was also wood for sale down the road outside the barn. I cooked a wonderful meal in the firepit and had a gorgeous sleep in my tent on a cot. There is a slope to carry your items up but its not too difficult. You can hear cars on the highway the entire time but I live in Brooklyn NY so that didn’t bother me at all. I would 100% stay here again and hopefully bring my family along as they don’t live far from the property.

The Cabbage Tent glamping property offers a fantastic experience. A peaceful and unique getaway in the woods awaits. The host, Jan, provides a warm welcome.. Jan was incredibly helpful and provided amazing hospitality. The glamping tent is nestled in the woods. Comfortable bed frames and all the necessary amenities are provided for a cozy night's sleep. The property has a charming farm atmosphere. Roosters, chickens, and bunnies roam freely, adding to the experience. The play area has a swing and other fun activities for kids. Fire logs are available, allowing for a cozy campfire in the evenings. Jan offered fresh eggs to take away in the morning. The Cabbage Tent glamping experience exceeded expectations. The combination of nature, comfortable accommodations, and Jan's exceptional hospitality made for a memorable trip.

Relaxing private campsite in the woods. Well set up with a flat spot for tents, nice fire pit, big picnic table, water jug, box for food storage, and a composting toilet all on site. Far away from other campers, right in the trees, very natural. We loved hearing the owls at night.

Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. Our drive up camp has a 4-6 person prospector type tent, a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. The main tent includes a wood burning stove, folding card table and seating for 4 and bunk bed with 4" thick self-inflating Therm-a-rest MondoKing 3D XXL Queen sized insulated mats for your comfort. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.

Located 50 miles from midtown Manhattan (approx 1:08 minutes) is our brand new campsite located right off the Appalachian Trail. The camp is at the base of Wawayanda mountain right between the iconic hikes "Stairway to Heaven" and "Pochuck Boardwalk" on the Appalachian Trail. Hike right from camp up to "Pinwheel Vista" (named one of NJ's best viewpoints!) At the entrance to the property is the Valley Farmers Cooperative that sells local grass fed meats and artisanal farm goods. You can walk two minutes to Heaven Hill Farm which has plenty of goods, produce, and fun fall activities like pumpkin picking and haunted hayrides. Drive your car from route 94 directly to your campsite nestled in the woods with a great view of the valley. A perfect getaway from the city with plenty to offer. About 10 minutes down 94 is the beautiful town of Warwick or about 4 minutes in the opposite direction is the town of Vernon. Warwick is a quaint small town with plenty of great restaurants and bars, and famous for its apple picking. Vernon has plenty to offer as well including the popular ski resort/waterpark Mountain Creek and Minerals Spa (Located just under 10 minutes away.) The quiet charm of Wawayanda State Park appeals to hikers, campers, swimmers and boaters. Forested hills surround Lake Wawayanda creating a restful backdrop for canoeists and fisherman, while steep mountains challenge casual as well as serious hikers. A twenty-mile stretch of Appalachian Trail runs through the park, while the top of Wawayanda Mountain offers sensational views. More than sixty miles of trails are marked in the park.

Triple Creek

A true wilderness experience. Base camp is an old Catskill farmhouse built late 19th century but first deeded 1820. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. I would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from me at base camp when you arrive. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. Feel free to buy your own. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We would prefer you not bring your dog, however, if you must, please be certain it is well behaved 4.5 miles up County Rte 6 to 1833 Spruceton Rd., NY 12492 Old white farmhouse. On left. Coach lights. American flag. Welcome sign. Look for Baker Rd. Bridge directly opposite on right Stop at house for check in and guide to site. And Drive Carefully! PS: Pack it in. Pack it out. Paradise Valley Homestead

Always working on improvements! My second glamping site "The Medieval Encampment", is available for booking starting April 1st of 2025. I will have more pictures soon. In April of 2024, my long awaited 1st Glamping site was available for booking. It's been very popular! Please read the description carefully of the "Gypsy Rose Vardo", to see if it's the right fit for you. I also have 10 large camping sites available on our 33 acre property located in Northwest NJ. Sites 1 through 4 are on mowed, fairly level fields and are large enough for campers or RV's up to 30ft, or a couple of tents, and sites 5 and 6 are further back in the woods, available only for a few small tents, sites 7 through 10 are much further into the property and are only accessible with a high clearance AWD or 4WD SUV or you can park and hike your gear in. There are 3 compost toilet outhouses spread out through the property, so it's an easy walking distance from any site. Although we are only 2 1/2 miles from a main highway, the last 2 miles are on a dirt road with no houses. We are surrounded by protected land, so no neighbors and lots of wildlife, including the occasional bear, coyote or raccoon. Keep all food items secured. Because we are surrounded by protected land we are not sprayed for insects, so be safe and do tick checks often and bring the bug spray. We are 45 minutes from NYC or the Delaware Water Gap and an hour away from the NJ shore. There are horse farms nearby that offer trail rides. We are also close to the Highland and Appalachian Hiking trails. There are two reservoirs within a 20-minute drive for canoeing or kayaking. There are walking trails through our property, including a ten-minute hike on a marked trail to a small waterfall in a ravine.

The River's Edge

The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be. The farmhouse and cabins are located opposite the campsites on other side of route 97. Next to them are 50 acres of wild forest to hike and explore. These accommodations are great for guests who want more amenities but still with easy access to river. Pair campsites and cabins so that all your guests have their best experience. We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We have two clean pit toilets, a spring-fed gravity water system, three wash stations, and two showers. A wash station is available at the showers, the kitchen, and the toilets. Overview

The Hudson Valley village of Walden is just an hour and a half north of New York City, making it an easy escape from the city. Surrounded by the gentle rolling hills of the Great Appalachian Valley and the Hudson Highlands to the southwest, it’s an attractive place to spend a while. Visitors will find plenty to do in the village’s surroundings, from visiting contemporary art galleries and sculpture parks to hiking in the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve. Those who want to set up camp will find plenty of nearby options.

Where to go

Beacon

Just a 20-minute drive east over the Hudson from Walden, Beacon is famed as the home of the contemporary art gallery Dia: Beacon and home to a number of galleries, boutiques and antique stores. Another 25 minutes east of Beacon, Fahnestock State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts who can hike, bird, boat, fish, and set up camp at the seasonal Fahnestock State Park Campground.

Cornwall-on-Hudson

A 25-minute drive south of Walden takes you to the outdoor sculpture park, Storm King Art Centre, named for nearby Storm King Mountain. You can spend all your time here wandering around the sprawling, 500-acre park, but don’t miss hiking in the pristine Storm King State Park nearby.

Poughkeepsie

Heading 40 minutes northeast out of Walden, the city of Poughkeepsie is home to Hudson Valley's most unique state park. The 1.28-mile Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park spans the Hudson River and is the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge, offering excellent views of the Hudson Valley.

Bear Mountain

A 40-minute drive south of Walden, Bear Mountain State Park offers hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails as well as river fishing access. Adjacent to Bear Mountain is Harriman State Park with 31 lakes, two beaches, 200 miles of trails and camping at primitive Beaver Pond Campground.

When to go

Spring and summer are the ideal times to visit to enjoy the trails and water activities on offer in the Hudson Valley. However, given the area’s proximity to New York City, you should expect crowds in the peak summer season, especially on weekends and holidays. September and October can also get busy with visitors arriving to see the vibrant colors of fall foliage while winters offer skiing and snowshoeing. Note that some popular attractions in the area, such as Storm Mountain Art Center, close in winter.
