We hope your visit to Ubuntu will be peaceful and rejuvenating. Ubuntu was the PERFECT place to observe the Northern Lights on Friday and Saturday (May 10-11). Campers at Ubuntu found the perfect spot to observe the April 8th TOTAL solar eclipse. There are no lights, no neighbors in sight, and they had the freedom to choose their campsite or observation point, whether it was on the flat, nestled in the trees, or on top of Carney Mountain. RV’s also easily found a spot to camp. New friends were made as everyone observed the eclipse. It was totally awe inspiring in so many ways!! The open areas and the top of Carney Mountain, which is a short hike with panoramic views of the area, were perfect spots to experience the solar eclipse, Northern Lights, sunrises and sunsets. The 115 acres of Ubuntu offer many opportunities for camping, hiking and enjoying the abundant wildlife. There is a wet area that sometimes becomes several ponds if the beavers have been at work. There is a path leading to the ponds and also one that runs through the woods to the right of the ponds. The location is private and quiet but still very accessible (only 10 minutes from Exit 34 off the Northway) to all the Adirondacks has to offer, such as biking, jogging, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. Ubuntu is located only 45 minutes from Lake Placid and the high peaks areas, Saranac Lake is about one hour away, Lake Champlain is 20 minutes away, and Montreal is one hour away. The ferry to Vermont if you wish to cross over the pond (Lake Champlain) is about 45 minutes away. And Exit 34 off the Northway is only 10 minutes from Ubuntu. And if you love equestrian sports, the Willow Hill Equestrian Center is less than 1.5 miles away. Bring your horse and stable your buddy at the Willow Hill Farm, or sign up for a lesson with one of their accomplished instructors. Your furry pets are welcome, but we ask that you keep them on a leash if they tend to chase game or do not have a reliable recall. Please use good judgment. There are many deer on the property, so yes we do have ticks. Please take the necessary precautions. Generators are allowed but in keeping with the peace and tranquility of Ubuntu, please run them only between the hours of 12:00 - 2 PM, especially if other campers are present.. We are 45 minutes from Lake Placid and 30 minutes from Plattsburgh. Montreal and Burlington, VT are a 1.5 hour drive. Lake Champlain is 15 minutes away. Hiking, boating, and swimming are all close, and riding lessons are available on the farm. Most hip camp sites are near where resident campers stayed. There are two sleeping cabins with many bunks. Each has two small rooms where a counselor slept and one large room. There are screened windows with shutters on all sides and screen doors without locks on each end. There are electrical outlets and over head lights in the cabins. We have plans to improve the cabins. Past the cabins is the Green with 4 loose stone firepits. Across from the cabins is the shower house with four hot showers, sink, and toilets. Showers and toilets have closed stalls. Currently, the water system is above ground and will not work in freezing temps. We have installed an outhouse for year round use. All water is from our excellent well. On each side of the former(closed) dining are spots. There are electrical outlets on the outside of the dining hall. People with campers may like to park in the riding arena near the barnyard. There are outlets, but no toilets. Good water is available from the barns. Lovely views of sky and mountains! We also have a beautiful 50 acre field with a household type outlet, but no well. There is an outhouse there. Excellent sky viewing here. This is where we jump and train our horses. Horses may be turned out in this field.

This property is part of an original hundred acre woods in the Adirondack Park overlooking Lincoln Pond. My grandfather moved an old ice house under the property in 1943 and built the existing camp in 1949. Her family lives in Florida and has continued to maintain and improve the old camp for the last 40 years. After having done selective logging two years ago we discovered a spot in the back of the property overlooking the pond and with the removal of a couple of trees have a beautiful view of Lincoln Pond. I can't say enough good things about our stay with Joan and the area in general. It was beautiful, relaxing, and just what my wife and I needed for a weekend away. This working farm was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. Joan was such a generous host, she even invited us out to see the cows which was the highlight of our stay. The farm was easy to locate and there was plenty of room to maneuver virtually any size RV. We will absolutely be back for a visit in the warmer months!

Joan is an amazing host and the farm is breathtakingly beautiful! She made sure my stay at the base camp was comfortable and that I had everything I needed while giving me plenty of space (and recommendations) for doing my own thing. Getting to explore the island as the fall colors were popping was the break I needed. The steak I purchased from their stock was also ridiculously good with this garlic Parmesan "Better Butter" that I got from the local store. So good. If I lived on the East Coast, I'd definitely visit again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sara & Matt’s cabin! It’s tucked away in the woods and feels private, but it’s still close to downtown Saranac Lake (4 min drive). Make sure you follow the directions provided, Google Maps wanted to bring us the wrong way (do not turn left down Ledge Lane). There are little HipCamp logo signs that help guide the way at the end of the Saranac Lane when it turns to dirt. The cabin was very clean and inviting. It was cold the first night as the cabin is not insulted or have heat, but between the blankets they provide and the blankets we brought we were comfy. Really appreciated having drinking water provided! We will definitely be booking a return trip to this cabin in the future!

Lots of privacy despite being less than 5 minutes from down town Saranac Lake! The cabin is a great middle ground camping experience- no plumbing or electric but you still get the creature comforts of a bed. The blankets provided kept us warm despite low temps in the 40s. Only downside is the solar shower does not heat up when there’s no sun, but we made it work.

Ted is an exceptional host with a lovely property that provides everything you could ever need for a lovely weekend camping. Show up with as little as a tent and some sleeping bags and Ted has you covered on the rest. This campsite has some of the best amenities I’ve ever experienced. From the hot shower to the stove, gazebo, and fire pit, Ted has got you covered. The campsite is also in a beautiful woods with a lovely brook nearby and great walking paths for you to get your day started with. I couldn’t recommend a campsite more than this. We will most certainly be returning.

Ken hosts one of the most incredible campsites I’ve had the pleasure of staying at, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s one of the kindest souls I’ve met too! Make sure to bring a camera when you visit, the view is not something you’ll want to forget, nor the beautiful sites around the campground. This is a must-stay, and I won’t be surprised if Ken ends up being booked year-round!!! (Also, we recommend a car with higher suspension and four wheel drive as to make the trip up to the lean-to easier!) Thanks Ken :)
