There are signs at both entrances to the site; one is a blue sign with white lettering in a tree on the left side of the road (going north) and one is a brown sign with "Hartwoods" with reflectors on a tree (also on left side of the road going north). There is also a sign at the actual site.

There are no bathroom facilities available. Please be aware that you will have to be self-contained, either in your RV or with a camp toilet. Thank you!

The octagon is a private 122 ft.² that is electrified and heated. It has a full size bed, cabinet and table with chairs. It sits next to a brook on 56 acres of forest with a pond, small waterfall, marsh and 2 1/2 miles of hiking trails. There is a fire pit and outdoor dining area next to the octagon. We also have a propane outdoor grill and propane two burner camp stove. Out house with composting toilet close to octagon is heated. A great place to rejuvenate in the forest! Dogs welcome.

Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.

Mary and Victor were very nice and when asked were flexible to let us stay in the converted trailer due to weather. The horses were amazing and friendly to bet! Great spot to stop for a few days and catch up on some remote work on the road. We invited Brendan to stop by and got a personal tour of the Sandbox beach volleyball facility and new amphitheater currently under construction.
Really close to historic Mystic and Stonington, as well as, some pleasant short hikes!
Brendan was very nice and accommodating. We're hoping to pass through next year to see the progress on the theater project!

This campground is amazing! If you want a place that is serine and private, this is the place for you. Mary and Victor are super hospitable and accommodating. They keep the outhouses clean and the campsites are roomy and comfortable. It’s a beautiful property with gorgeous horses. Thanks to the hosts for a wonderful stay!!! I recommend this to anyone who likes true camping as there are no hookups, but gorgeous serenity and peace.

Hartwoods was the perfect spot for us to land for 4 nights while visiting family in New Haven. The property is private, well kept, beautiful, and a short walk away from the New England Trail. The host was quick to respond to questions. Our dog enjoyed the open space and being off leash. We also enjoyed being able to drive to the quaint harbor towns like Mystic for lobster and fresh cider. There was some noise from the Sportman’s Association rifle range down the road, but not enough to be an issue. We would definitely recommend Hartwoods, and hope to stay there again in the future.

Very peaceful and secluded spot! It was perfect for us and our 2 dogs! Wish we could’ve stayed longer but it was a great spot to put our camper for a few days! Would definitely come stay here again if we are in the area again! 😊

This is a very cute farm. Victor was very friendly. The campground was private for us; we were the only ones there though, and there were three campsites pretty close together; so there are no guarantees it will be as peaceful for you if that’s important.
