2 nights at Tilden Hill Farm

Ken’s farm was such a lovely place to stop. We had a spot right next to the pond overlooking the pasture and had a surprise heard of cows stop right in front of us at sunset. We got to enjoy the trails and do some exploring. Ken was a welcoming host. Would absolutely recommend!

You have a beautiful chunk of property and I love that the tent sites are spread out and we have privacy instead of being on top of each other like some of the state park tent sites! Best of all, for us anyway, it was located close to home so we were able to stop home if we forgot anything, and since we own parrots, we were able to drop in from time to time and take care of them. I would 10000% recommend this HipCamp site!! Thank you, Ken!!

My boyfriend and I camped on Rick’s land for his 31st birthday, and it was such an amazing trip. The property is absolutely beautiful — peaceful, spacious, and the view of the pond was perfect. We loved hearing the goats and frogs at night; it really added to the experience. Rick was also super friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even better. We would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by nature!

Beautiful spot, well maintained. The drive down in my Subaru was pretty easy but can see how it would be difficult with some vehicles. Highly recommend for the views and the creek.

Weekend Trip to Laughing Goat Fiber Farm

Laughing Goat Fiber Farm was incredible! My kiddo and I chose the platform site, which had shade in the afternoon and hundreds of fireflies at night. The hosts were responsive, kind, and helpful. Ithaca proper was only 8-10 minutes away and many waterfalls were even closer than that. The bathrooms were well-kept, even being serviced during our 4 night stay. It is a truly wonderful place!

Incredible place to stay! Wide open dark skies with lots of stars. The site is a great, clean, and safe place to stay. There is a clean Porta Potty and fire pit on site as well. Host is very responsive to texts. No fire wood on site, so make sure you pick some up on the way. We got ours from the gas station down the street.

The camp area was so well kept up with lots of places to walk spend time in nature. The camp sites were spread out so it didn’t feel too crowded and the outdoor bathrooms were clean and had great sink, shower, and toilet facilities. When Ken learned it was going to rain the. Ight we were there, he even moved us to a different tent site that would provide more protection from the weather. The cows were friendly too and came right up to the fence to say hello!

It’s was nice. Stayed at pond site. Nice and quiet. Goats in the background and frogs serenaded me to sleep. Pond was peaceful and cool next to a campfire at night. I didn’t see a single person which I like. Grass was mowed and signs were easy to see and read. Also received a nice email from host before arrival making find site super easy. A little small debris around site. Took me less than 2 min to pick up. Other than that great spot. I would definitely recommend and stay again.

This former hunting cabin is on a 90-acre property that we are fixing up. It is surrounded by hundreds of acres of wild land, and involves a hike in on logging trails. Eventually we hope to conserve the land in perpetuity. The land was logged about 25 years ago and has regrown quite a bit. There are beautiful large maple, cherry, pine, and butternut trees, as well as young growth and wildflowers and diverse and abundant fungi. Our land is adjacent to the Finger Lakes Land Trust's King Preserve, so you will be camping in an area with 300 acres of forest and trails. It is also convenient to a diner, gas station, pizza/bar, a playground, fishing stream, and 2 ice cream stores (all walkable from the trailhead). Learn more about this land: This is an extremely rustic hunting cabin about a 15 - 30 minute (depending on hiker) hike up from the small village of Richford, NY. The hike is along old logging roads in the forest, but it's all uphill on the way in. We do not allow vehicle access to guests, but we have a vehicle we can use to deliver potable water (make sure to check with us to make sure we can provide extra water on the dates you need). There is a wood stove (for heat) and propane stove (for cooking). There is a triple decker bunk bed, you need to bring your own sleeping pad and sleeping bag. We have added a picnic table and small fire pit. There is an outhouse and hand washing station (seasonal). Fall leaf peeping is lovely, and as the leaves fall off, there are really nice views of the valley. You will have total privacy here!

Thorndon Meadows

Looking for some peace and quiet? Up for an adventure with rustic camping? Our property was once part of a much larger business farm. It has not been under a tractor since 2010, except for mowing. We have been hosting for HipCamp since 2019 and we are eager to meet you and hear what you think of our acres. The gorgeous sunsets over Lake Ontario are world renowned, and our primitive camp sites are just one half mile from the lake. The terrain is hilly, elevation ranges from 320' - 380'. Due to the location on the hill, great views of the spectacular sunrise can also be seen (from the ground) and pretty much most of the sunsets. Excellent opportunities for bird watching, we have seen everything from goldfinches to bald eagles, with sightings of indigo buntings, sparrowhawks, snow and Canada geese, according to season. Wildflowers, berries and herbs are in abundance, when in season. Being right near the fourth largest Great Lake the campgrounds is a great spot for cloud watching, kite sailing and star viewing - there is no light pollution. Fresh water divers? There are dozens of sunken shipwrecks in Lake Ontario and in April 2019, NOAA proposed the designation of a national marine sanctuary in eastern Lake Ontario to protect historically significant shipwrecks and maritime heritage resources. Oh, and did I mention the world class fishing? Co-owner, Valerie, is a permaculturist and welcomes conversation about anything environmental. The flattest part of the hill was once under cultivation but since 2010 has been allowed to revert to woodlands. I farm trees, the only animals here will be the ones that Nature sends (or if you bring a pet). Fruit and nut trees have been planted, as well as some berries, so since 2010 they are not very large. My trees are very important. Please take care not to injure them. Seasoned firewood is plentiful from the prunings as well as from deadfall and extra can be purchased at the farm - $6. per bundle. (Per New York State DEC regulation, untreated firewood may not be moved over 50 miles.) There is a working rocket mass heater in the barn and it will be fired up and roaring between October and April. Knitting and crocheting lessons are yours for the asking. Co-owner, William, may also be persuaded to show you some guitar licks. Children 12 and under are discounted 50% off. Children under 2 are free. At the edges of the property you can see neighbors' houses but campsites are secluded from the neighbors as well as from each other. All campsites are drive in but you may be driving across a mown field. Sterling Nature Center (Great Blue Heron rookery!) and Sterling Renaissance Festival are each 4 miles away. Gas station and farm store (Ontario Orchards -- great home-baked pies there!) are each 3 miles away. Sterling Creek Canoe- Kayak Launch - 3.5 miles. Fair Haven Beach State Park and Little Sodus Bay - 7.5 miles. City of Oswego and NY State University - 6 miles. And, if you are of that persuasion, the nearest McDonald's and Subway are 7 miles and Walmart is 10 miles away. Because I could be anywhere on the property and I would like to be available when you arrive, please advise me if you know you will be arriving after 5 PM. All revenue from camping goes back into the property to continue to improve your experience. While we are open to winter camping, the farm road is on a hill that must be navigated to reach the campsites. In snowy or icy (or extremely muddy) conditions this may prove impossible for a typical vehicle and even give some 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles some trouble. There is room at the bottom of the hill for off road parking for one vehicle. It would then require hiking up about 500 feet to reach campsites. Also, when the weather is dropping below freezing (which could be between late October -- early May), you are advised to bring your own water as water left overnight will freeze. Please take responsibility for the energy you bring to this space. Campfires are encouraged but bonfires are not allowed. If you are unsure, just ask. This is also a 'leave nothing but footprints' campsite. We do not have trash removal. It is less than a mile walk or ride to the Black Diamond Trail, a hiking and biking trail that extends four+ miles North to Taughannock Falls State Park and four+ miles South to Cass Park, the Ithaca Children's Garden, and the City of Ithaca Municipal Pool. Foraging on site: Wild Blackberry, Raspberry, Blueberry, mushroom, nuts... bring your NYS foraging guide! Come for the birds, the berries, or the foliage, please leave nothing but footprints. THIS IS NOT A CAMPGROUND This is a judgement free, welcoming space that should be respected. There is no public restroom, a shovel can be provided There is no electricity on site. No running water other than the stream. It seems clear, but it is not safe to drink. For shower: there is a public shower at the Beach House at Fair Haven State Park. NO Hunting on site. Please engage in 'active raccoon control' meaning, lock any food in the car before bed or when not in use. Raccoons are naturally shy animals that prefer to retreat when they sense humans nearby. Removing access to food sources is the most effective raccoon control. Adventuring? Nearby attractions are a NYS specialty. This is a great location for anyone visiting Fair Haven Beach, Sterling Nature Center or nearby Chimney Bluffs. The NYS Renaissance Festival is only a few minutes’ drive.

We are also in a very popular area to the Amish. They are great neighbors and we are sure you will see them pass by regularly with their horse and buggy. The property is also next to a show horse farm that has two donkeys so be prepared to hear them also . Very entertaining. We are currently a new site and are doing construction on the land. Please be patient with us. We have one other listing on the land so there may be times you do see other guests. We have a home under construction on the property so we also may be there at times. This site gives you a quiet wooded area to camp for the night or two with a porta potty for luxury camping. This site allows you to have a quiet place to camp without a lot of people and kid free. Most campgrounds have children but Stars and Sage does not allow children. Please feel free to bring your own camping needs as we only provide a fire area. The site is approximately 19 feet by 39 feet in dimension. You will be close to Mexico village and about 20 minutes from the city of Oswego. Plenty of biking areas all around . Enjoy a hike in the trail or take a short trip to Mexico point to put your Canoe or kayaks in to enjoy Lake Ontario. Lake Ontario is well known for fishing. You may see deer, Fox, muskrat, etc. you may hear coyotes in the distance. A flash light and a hatchet and bug spray are definitely recommended to have on hand.

Most of the time cars or r.v.s can manage the gravel and dirt road back to the campsite, assistance or a truck will be provided if a large rain storm might occur during your stay. We are just a mile north of Seneca lake providing easy access to Geneva and the many wine trails. this is basic camping area with no hookups but an electric generator is available. There is a dock, fishing, picnic table and deck, and fire pit, you will have the entire area to yourself and can set up camp whenever you would like. There are many areas to spread out individual campsites for large groups if desired. we have added a large porta potty.
