Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that make you feel like you are in another world. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Lake Taghkanic is a great place for both summer and winter stays, with plenty of tent campsites as well as cabins and cottages, and a variety of activities to do year round. For winter folks, there's cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails, as well as ice skating and ice fishing areas, and plenty of fire pits to warm those chilly bones. For summer lovin', there are two beaches, so if someone kicks sand in your potato salad (accidentally, of course), you can just go to another beach and pretend like it never happened. The only sleeping quarters that are on the water are some of the cottages in the West End Cottage Area, so if you're planning on playing Beach Party Bingo, plan accordingly or be willing to walk a bit from your tent or cabin.

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. Many opportunities for hiking, fishing, and swimming abound. High speed wifi and centrally located, just 12 min into town. 2.5-3 hrs from NYC. Belleayre Mountain Ski Center is an easy 23 minute drive, a great spot to ski or snowboard. Alternatively, Platekill Mountain is a 19 minute drive and offers some good slopes for snowboarding, snow tubing and skiing. Main street in the town of Margaretville NY is a picturesque little village, just 12 min by car offering coffee shops, art galleries, a vintage thrift store, farm to table restaurants, the Binnekill Tavern, a favorite of mine and some boutique shops. You can also shop for all your groceries at Freshtown, a large supermarket that services the area. Take county route 6 over to Andes NY, about a 20 min drive from the cabin and you will find yourself in another super cute little town offering more farm to table restaurants, boutique and antique shops and the hip Wayside Cider Tap Room.

Our focus and purpose on this land is to provide stewardship and sanctuary for the Natural world to maintain it’s own balance with minimal interference from humans. To remain wild and free. We are a plant, wildlife and butterfly sanctuary. We rent the lodgings (Chalet, Cabin & Glampsite) to support and fund the maintenance and expansion of native and pollinating species of plants, expanding the area that we steward, providing habitat and refuge for animals, insects, birds and more. We wish to share our sacred land with people that love and respect the Earth, who wish to contribute to a conservation project through their own presence and mindfulness. Once a RV camping park called "Thunder Hill Campground" in the late 1960's early 1970's, the land sat mostly unused for 15 years before Rachel came to steward it 20 years ago. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. We are near Albany, Berne, Catskill, Cairo, Cobleskill, East Durham, Greenville, Hunter, Knox, Medusa, Oak Hill, Middleburgh, Schoharie, Westerlo, Windham.

Excellent get-away experience. Exactly as described, put together by folks who are very practically-minded and resourceful. Total peace and privacy with very good comfort in primitive setting. Wood stove was key to cold winter nights, plenty of heating capacity to spare. Gas mantle lights are very nice touch as well. Host is immediately responsive and excellent communicator.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Scandinavian staycation cabin! The place was spacious, cozy, and the wood stove was our absolute favorite, it made everything feel so warm and homey. On our last morning, we even got some snow flurries, which totally made our day. Our cat loved hanging out on the stairs too. It was a little chilly at times, but overall we enjoyed our stay!

We had a cozy stay at the Just Be cabin. We arrived after dark and the trail to the cabin was well lit and easy to find. Stacey took the time to build a fire in the woodstove before we arrived so the cabin was very warm, and it was easy to keep warm throughout the evening. For a small cabin it felt very spacious. Really appreciated getting to stay at this sweet retreat!

What a great trip! The cabin was wonderful with the wood stove and such a great history there. The property was VERY secluded and quiet, a great pond for the dog to jump in, horses right in the meadow, and great trails right off rhe edge of the yard. A+ trip and hosts, well def be back!

I had a wonderful experience staying at this cabin. The land is breathtaking. The waterfall was everything I could’ve asked for on my birthday for fun swimming adventures. The cabin was clean and cozy. Loved using the solar shower bags under the full moon for an additional cold plunge indulgence. Diner nearby makes a mean strawberry shortcake with biscuits. Awesome farmers market. Stay here-you will love it!

Everything was perfect! The waterfall was stunning and a fun scramble to get to. The water was quite chilly as it was the last week of September, but we still went for a swim and it was a great spot with plenty of room. Have a good swi. The cabin is adorable, and the bed was so comfortable. The deck was really nice for doing yoga on and the fire pit set up was lovely.. We took a little hike that was about 10 minutes away that had beautiful views and stopped at a farm stand that had tons of beautiful produce and delicious treats. We could have easily bought all the food we needed for the weekend at that one farm stand. The site was very private and a very short walk from the car to the site. It was a perfect weekend getaway!

Took my two daughters for the weekend. The cabin was very well maintained, was clean, comfortable and had plenty of light at night. The picnic table, fire pit and campfire area outside were fantastic during night time and breakfast. Most importantly - the short hike to the waterfall was a wonderful early morning adventure.
