This is a primitive campground that I want to share with others. It’s a beautiful property located on the bank of the Rio Grande River with access to the river at all times. Although it’s a bit rustic I want to keep it as natural possible. I hope you will come enjoy this native area as much as I do. Hatch, NM, the Chile Capital of the World, is just 14 miles north. come during chile harvest to take home fresh green chile right out of the field. 21 miles from Las Cruces, where you will find plenty of events and entertainment, should you so desire. Spaceport America, T or C, White Sands are all within a day's drive, and Fort Selden is just a few miles down the road, as is Blue Moon Bar and Grill. My dad first came to this property as a farm hand for the elderly couple who owned it. This was in the 1930's. He met my mother, who lived 6 miles down the road, in 1939. She was just 14. Every Sunday he would ride those 6 miles to have supper with her and her family and in 1940, 2 weeks after her 16th birthday, they married. They traveled around before coming back here, buying a small portion of this farm from the elderly owners and farming the rest for them. In 1953, the man died (his name was Ernest Ward) in the small concrete house I now use for storage, that my dad had built for he and his wife when he first came to work for them. My parents built a home for his widow in Hatch (14 miles) and bought the farm from her. My family has owned it since. I was gone for 31 years, but returned to the land and place I love and plan to stay here till I die!

City of Rocks State Park is your self proclaimed “sponsor of adventure” and we agree! The entire park clocks in at just one square mile, but what’s inside this tiny little park is huge fun. The park is filled with pinnacles, or giant rock formations, that were formed after a volcanic eruption 34.9 million years ago. Today, these rad, red rocks tower over while you hike or bike through the grid like maze at their base. The park also offers a stunning botanical garden, stargazing, and views of the local wildlife. Be sure to stop by the brand new visitors center and get the best tips from the rangers before setting up camp in their comfy campgrounds. Silver City and Deming are close by for access to more fun. The Rusty Rest Looking for a unique, comfy stay away from home in Silver City? Go back in time in this rare 28-foot M-Systems coach, located in the elm forest near Western New Mexico University; a short walk to downtown (galleries, shops, restaurants, food coop) Farmers Market, Gough Park, and grocery store. Explore Silver City from this intimate 200 sq. ft. space that will provide a respite from your day of adventures and activities in the area. Owner is an artist and works and lives adjacent property called the Rusty Nest! With many original features, updated plumbing and electrical. Galley kitchen with original sink and refrigerator; kettle, convection hot plate, toaster. Pour- over coffee maker or Keurig upon request; dining table with bench seating. Dishes, utensils, ice, coffee and tea; sheets and towels. There is a very comfortable new twin bed, best for single person due to compact layout and bed space, but might work for two people if you really like each other! Built in 1949 (a great year!), this vintage travel trailer has been lovingly restored by artists-owners to 90% of its historic beauty, including original birch veneer walls. We re-used original materials, scavenged and recycled others. We have completely restored the interior with vintage cabinets, hardware, finishes, refrigerator, sink and shower, and lighting. The exterior is a work in progress, does not affect the comfort of the interior. Guest access You will be the only guests during your stay, and you have a private driveway, unpaved, and fully fenced yard. Hosts are adjacent to the property, available if needed by text. Step out the door and enjoy a large yard with raised bed gardens, fruit trees and plenty of shade. Other things to note: Silver City boasts four mild seasons! If the forecast is for cold weather, consider bringing extra clothing. Heat is provided by a space heater. If it’s warm on a summer day, it will cool off fairly quickly under the shady elms, with ceiling vents and windows open, and a fan is available. There is no ac or central heat. Full disclosure: this is essentially a 75 year old tiny house with quirks and charming details. Whenever possible, the interior has been opened up to add space and flow for modern living. Keep in mind: this is ‘glamping’ and doesn’t have all the comforts of a house; it’s not sealed like a house and sometimes some dust or drafts may make it inside. We encourage guests to remove their shoes on entering, to preserve the new floor. If you’re an adventurous soul you’ll be a perfect fit! Staying in an 75 year old travel trailer is a unique experience; we like to think this is part of the charm! There are three steps to front door, no handrail, uneven unpaved yard and driveway. No smoking or pets. There is no TV; we are working on internet service. This is a great place to spend a weekend in the tranquility of the mountains, under the New Mexico stars. We are all about respecting the space and our neighbors by keeping the noise down and limiting access only to those on the reservation. You'll find this makes for a wonderful evening for all! There is so much to do in Silver City! Typical annual event schedule: February – Chocolate Fantasia, Territorial Charter Day and Ball April – SCAA Spring Art Market, Southwest Women’s Fiber; Art Collective Tapestry of Talent Fashion Show, Continental Divide Trail days, Tour of the Gila International Bike Race May – Silver City Blues Festival June – Gila Wilderness Centennial, Fiesta Latina, Wild West Pro Rodeo July – Mimbres Hummingbird Festival September – SCAA Studio Tour, Rolling Stones Gem Show; Mineral Show, Carnitas Musica Y Mas, Gila River Festival, Grant County Fair, Silver City Pride Festival October – SCAA Weekend at the Galleries, Southwest Print Fiesta, Red Paint Pow Wow, November – Day of the Dead Parade, SCAA Independent Artist Show, SCAA Holiday Art Market, MainStreet Lighted Christmas Parade For more information and a comprehensive event calendar visitsilvercity.org.
