There are beautiful views and access to Shaggy Peak, the southernmost tip of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Wander our land to enjoy various level hiking trails including a 20 minute hike to a creek and waterfall in the forest (some steep spots and creek is intermittent) or climb up Shaggy Peak (seasoned hikers only please).
IMPORTANT: We are up 1.3 miles of dirt road (with 5-7+% grade in a few short stretches) and are not near public transportation so you will need your own vehicle! Be aware that the roads can be snowy, icy or muddy and rutted ( 4-wheel or All-trak recommended in certain times of year). We don’t guarantee the road will be plowed.
We generally close for the season due to cold weather around Halloween and reopen just before Memorial Day.

This site requires a hike. No vehicles are permitted beyond the cattle gate.
Potable water is available upon request, but we prefer that you BYO. Since I have to hike it out there, you must let me know what you need at the time of your booking.
This is a primitive shelter. There is no running water nor electricity (aside from a solar light). The solar will charge your phone, so bring your cord!
It's just like camping but with walls and a roof over your head - and the benefit of having no other campers around. You might see an occasional hiker with their dog. If you have a dog, take note. This site is completely fenced in so that your fur baby can safely roam.
There is no heating or cooling. The desert can get cold at night. With enough notice, a portable propane heater can be provided for an additional charge.
Hipcampers are kindly asked to park just outside our gate and embark on a picturesque 3/4 mile hike back to the shelter. The flat hike offers scenic views and adds to the adventure of your stay. PLEASE clean up after your pup.

Coyote Cabin sits on 10 acres just north of Taos, on a property shared with the main house. You have access to miles of walkable dirt roads right from the door, and there are trails to BLM land nearby. 10 minute drive from access to the Rio Grande Gorge, and an easy 25 minute drive into Taos Ski Valley for snow fun and hiking. 15 min north of downtown Taos.
The cabin is divided into two sides. One side is a bedroom/bathroom suite with a comfortable queen size bed and a bathroom (with an awesome standing shower).
On the other side, separated by an exterior door, you'll find a cozy space for dining and relaxing, a couch (with a small fold-out mattress), and a kitchenette.
This means you move from the living room/kitchenette to the bedroom/bathroom by walking outside under the covered patio. While it's a bit unusual, we really enjoy it, and so do 99% of our guests. If you like being outdoors, and enjoy having separate areas for sleeping vs hanging out and cooking, you'll enjoy it too.
The kitchenette includes a mini fridge, a large double sink, an electric cooktop, varied coffee supplies, and all the essential cooking amenities. No need to run to the store just for basics like salt, pepper, or oil. Plus some less basic items, like a variety of Trader Joes spices + emergency snacks. The Blackstone outdoor griddle is a versatile cooking amenity, where you can make a full breakfast spread, delicious fajitas, and really anything in between.
This is a somewhat remote high desert area, with all that entails. There are birds, bugs, and lots of other wildlife around. You may hear coyotes singing late at night or early in the morning.
The last 1.5 miles of the drive are on a maintained dirt road. You don't need 4WD or a lifted vehicle to get here, although you may need it for other areas of Taos.
The guest cabin shares the 10 acres with the main house, where we live. If we're out of town, other guests may be staying in the main house. The cabin and house are well separated by both a large garage and latilla privacy fences.
The cabin is dog friendly, as we have two of our own and know the challenges of traveling with dogs.

With pets
Gave me a perfect spot for my dog to stretch his legs and not have to bother with setting up tent after my 11hr journey from TX. Peaceful and away from people and everything noisy so was able to pass out successfully at like 6pm and slept a solid 11hr then waited patiently for the beautiful sunrise. Was greeted by a rather large coyote (bigger than my Pitt Bull) on the way out which startled all of us I think. But it was in the wee hours of morning so he was still hunting from the night before. My dog is a solid 86lbs so we’re both a pretty large obstacle for the lone coyote. However if you have a smaller dog and are timid at all you need to keep in mind that you are in the WILD out there so it’s up to you to figure it out if you encounter wilderness in your face like that.

Opening the curtains in the living room and seeing the mountains right outside the window was amazing! The house felt like home, and the layout was perfect for a ski trip with great places to store gear and lots of space for playing games with the family.

Weekend Trip to Taos Goji Farm & Eco Lodge
A super cute place. The cabins were super clean and the wood stove got so hot! I got to pet some kitties and i saw chickens and there are laundry facilities which come in handy for travelers. There is a book in my cabin with history and a map and instructions. Very helpful, John was so inviting and kind. THANK YOU!!

This location was so much fun! Perfect views, and we were able to have a nice campfire in the morning. Nikki was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The location was gorgeous and in good driving distance of the national forests. Would absolutely visit again!

1 night at Canyon of the Sleeping Bear
My boyfriend and I spent one night in one of the cabins on Nikki's land. Facilities were clean and as described and Nikki was excellent at communicating. I would suggest a 4WD car with some clearance, especially if it's raining or snowing because it's a longer drive on a dirt road. Overall great stay!

Loved being able to hike in, and my dogs getting to run free on the property. It was so quiet, I was disoriented for a bit. I only stayed for a night, but would stay longer in the future to take advantage of the land navigation and other similar features. Really kind host, and cozy space. Gravel road on the way in, but I drive a Camaro and had no issues

We loved our time at this cabin! It was so unique and different than other spots we’ve stayed at. The hike made it extra special and gave us the privacy we were looking for. Lynne has the cabin supplied with everything you will need. It’s very cozy and we even had a big storm come through one night. We felt very safe and secure enjoy it from inside! The sunsets on the ridge are beautiful. And our dog loved having her own yard to hang out in. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Lynne!

Weekend Trip to Taos Goji Farm & Eco Lodge
The Taos Goji property truly makes this Hipcamp worth it. There are several community spaces, including two soaking tubs and a sauna, which made our trip. The cabin itself was just enough for comfort. My partner and I were able to cook a meal, though we would recommend bringing your own spices, and enjoyed a cozy evening of soaking in the hot tub and hot veggies. The space is heated through several different elements, and the caretaker was quick to assist us when we got cold. In general, the investment for the duplex cabin seems steep, but if you are able to take time out of your travels to enjoy the property and it's amenities, it quickly holds generous value.
