Highland cattle graze at the forest's edge on our Celtic-heritage farm: a gentle retreat with options for woodland wandering, farm-fresh breakfasts (weekdays only, must be requested one week in advance), and campfires complete with traditional Gaelic music! Our 40-acre farm includes heritage-breed animals, organic gardens, and over 30 acres of conservation woodlands. We favor scythes over tractors--your stay will be quiet and fume-free! Bradbury Mountain and several trail networks are nearby, along with rivers, ocean beaches, and an excellent locavore food scene. Since the early 1800s, this land on the edge of Chandler Brook has nourished bodies and spirits alike. Sloping pastures meet well-managed woodlands, making this a haven for both humans and wildlife. Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods. We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. This land is already better than we found it, but we hope it will remain a gathering-ground of culture and agriculture, tradition and innovation for generations to come.

23mi from Conway · 1 site · Lodging · Bridgton, ME
Adventure awaits you in our rustic getaway named "The View," a rare perspective on the Presidential Range & White Mountains of New Hampshire in the heart of Maine's Lakes Region. This campsite has a Bell Tent AND an outdoor gathering Safari pavilion w/ BBQ, fire pit, hanging sun shower & composting toilet. We are located in Stoneham, Maine. The space Your home for your stay is situated down the hill from the owners’ cottage and is completely private. Based on our experiences in Africa, the layout is a mixture of safari and glamping all in one. The property encompasses 15 acres of rolling hills, young forests, a pond as well as native foliage. Butterflies and wild flowers with multiple paths lead one on short walks surrounded by the quiet sounds of nature. Hiking trails are plentiful in this part of the country with the White Mountain National Forest right out the flap of your tent. From the parking area you take an easy 2 minute walk through the woods and arrive at our first structure, the Safari Pavilion. The Safari Pavilion is a place for gathering with all you need: chairs, table, hammock, mini-fridge, BBQ, coffee maker and cooking prep area. As you step out of the Pavillion, feast your eyes on "The View" which captures a unique shot of the Presidentials. Nearby and also facing the gorgeous view is the spacious 16 foot Glamp Bell Tent situated on a platform above ground. It's outfitted with a comfy Queen size Memory Foam mattress with sheets & comforter, extra blankets, carpets, electricity, sitting area with 2 chairs, table, electric heater, fan and Keurig to make coffee & tea with all the fixings. Conveniently nestled in the young forest between the Bell Tent and gathering pavilion is our Sun Mar composting toilet in a privacy tent. Soak in the view at the outdoor shower on the front corner of the pavilion-facing west, providing an open air bathing experience with our refreshing solar shower bag. (Alternatively in a separate location is the enclosed privacy shower utilizing the same solar shower). Ask and we will fill your shower bag with hot water if the sun isn't shining that day! The large natural fire pit on level ground provides for evenings of s'mores or simply go dark and watch the amazing Maine skies! Capture expansive views of the Milky Way, find the North Star or argue about whether the nightly traffic is SpaceX or a UFO?! Firewood for the fire pit is provided and your first fire is ready for you on arrival. Gravity fed fresh well water for cleaning & washing is located in the outdoor food prep and cleaning area of the Safari Pavilion - we keep the 50 gallon drum full. We do not offer a standard kitchen. However, our outdoor pavilion has a BBQ, mini fridge, pots, pans, plates, silverware/utensils, cups, mugs, coffee maker, toaster, pancake grill and a two burner electric hotplate to cook or boil water. We use the 50 gal drum of water, shower bags & two bins to wash dishes. Although independent off grid is our goal, at this time we are a combination of both solar and on grid and so are you. Sorry, no wifi yet but nearby diners and watering holes have available signal. If you don't want to cook, modern conveniences such as AJ's Everything Store- Bar & Restaurant is located 1.6 mi down the road for ice, drinks and even a pizza (cauliflower crust available) or hamburger. Ebenezer's Pub, serving unique Belgian beers is 15 min. South or sample a plethora of restaurants in nearby Bethel (20) minutes drive near the Sunday River Ski Area or Bridgton (30) minutes away near the Shawnee Peak Ski Area. Guest access Along with our extensive walking paths (Some are steep and unimproved), you are welcome to take a dip in our pond with a tiny beach, as well as enjoy sunrise or sunset yoga with our resident Sidartha. Other things to note Having been lucky enough to find this special place back in 2018, we camped here extensively for 2 years and then downsized from Sweden Maine with 281 residents to Stoneham with 268! + -. We built our tiny cottage from recycled and new materials in 2021. 2022 has been a fun time setting up the Safari/Glamp site. Rustic and again much recycled and natural materials have been combined with many of the comforts of home. We hope you will enjoy it as much we do!

9.5mi from Conway · 1 site · Lodging · Fryeburg, ME
Get away from it all when you stay under the stars in our 3 season bell tent on Honey & Stem Flower Farm in Fryeburg, Maine. The tent is on a small raised platform, so you are less likely to get water underneath in the event of rain. With views of farm animals (and usually some deer) while sleeping in front of the open field across from the garden and ducks, enjoy a small getaway with the luxury of a real queen size bed (not a deflating air mattress!), while still getting that "off grid camping" experience. The field is not far from the road (Route 5), so you will inevitably hear the cars drive by. With solar lighting, rocking chairs, a small phone charging station, a fire pit, and a table for two, its the perfect camping set up where you don't actually have to set everything up! Bathroom: We will have a small bathroom tent set up with a bucket toilet for an emergency bathroom, but no formal portable toilet set up/ portable toilet. The woods are also a short walk from the tent spot, however we kindly ask that you properly dig and bury should you use this, as we do have 3 dogs of our own on the property. Please note: This is a working farm and there will be people working in the garden and feeding animals from 7 am to 6 pm daily. They will respect your privacy and maintain quiet hours until 8 am. We can't promise the Rooster or Sheep will keep quiet hours though. Please also note: Farm animals can be smelly, its all part of the farm experience, we do our best to maintain animal shelters to keep this smell at bay but some animals, like pigs, may be smelly regardless. We are happy to bring you coffee at 7:30 or 8 am at your request. We can leave this in a thermos on the small table by the tent (Refer to the coffee gift basket image). We offer a "breakfast basket, with a thermos of hot coffee or hot tea and a half dozen farm fresh eggs, We can accommodate sugar along with dairy free and regular creamer with an advanced request. We also offer a "smores" basket to purchase at your request If you'd like to purchase some farm fresh eggs or other produce, please just shoot us a message. Our farm stand is no longer located on the farm, but now at our secondary location in town Fryeburg, but we are happy to provide these elements to you and we actually keep a fridge in the Garden Shed, across from the tent location, which we can store items in for you at your request. We will have a small cooler available for your use upon request, just bring your own ice. We look forward to hosting you on our small Family Farm!
