We live on ten acres tucked in the pines at the foot of the Sapphire mountains with views west of the broad Bitterroot Valley and the stunning Bitterroot Mountains. Only a mile behind our house is a state wildlife management area and beyond that National Forest and then the Welcome Creek Wilderness. We have a greenhouse and garden on site but our major vegetable growing operation is down in the valley. Lots of wildlife travel through our lot, including a number of owls. In our first five years here we have seen five different owl species, which gives the cabin its name! We have two resident cats and a blue heeler, along with chickens who free roam and you will likely meet.

After you pick up any additional items for your stay (firewood, farm fresh eggs, beef, etc.) you can head to your lodging or we can guide you. This property has a number of hiking trails with incredible views, a year round creek, and spectacular bird watching. You can climb the plateau for a view of the M, or hike until you find a place where you can only see mountain and stars. Wow, what a great place to crash! Right off the highway and despite some highway noise this is a very relaxing place to stay. Loved the ducks and chickens and a cat that was curious but not bold enough to come in and visit. The shower/toilet/sauna setup is great! We stayed in a “glamping tent” which was closer to a fully equipped room (they provided towels and shower supplies!) but would have been comf in our own tent on the creek with fire pit. This is a work in progress, a family raising kids and building their dream, something we can relate to. Would very much stay again!!

2 nights at Sanctuary Farm Yurt Glamping

We loved our time at Sanctuary Farm. The farm itself is on a private road, off a minor country road in a heavily treed area - The drive there is spectacular. You know you are in for something special! The yurt was placed well away from the owner's home, which gave lots of privacy and the night sky is DARK, so perfect for stargazing. The composting sawdust outhouse was a short walk from the yurt & surprisingly pleasant - no odor or flies and plenty of ventilation. 1000 times nicer than a port-o-potty. The solar heated camp shower provided by the host worked great. Just be sure to shower in the evening after the water has had all day to heat up! The optional breakfast was delish - definitely worth the cost & we ate out for our other meals, so never used the outdoor kitchen. We enjoyed our time here & would definitely recommend it to others seeking a stay off-the-beaten path.

This was such a cozy slice of heaven out in the Montana back country. We got up at 3 am and saw the Milky Way and so many stars. The outdoor kitchen made meals scenic and beautiful. Would stay here again 10/10.

A little taste of Heaven! Sanctuary Farm was a peaceful retreat. The yurt was rejuvenating and comfortable. Everything was a perfect balance of both comfort and function. There was electricity and minimal wifi, which was wonderful to be unplugged for a short while. Matt met us upon arrival and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, and he gave us privacy and was respectful. Water was provided upon arrival which was much needed. We loved seeing their kittens, goats, sheep, and cattle dog Huckleberry. I definitely recommend the breakfast, the sourdough waffle sandwich was delicious and he was so kind to accommodate my vegetarian preference. I wish we could have stayed longer. I enjoyed reading the guestbook of all who have graced the sanctuary. It was the perfect start to our trip. A creek ran right through the property, which was wonderful to listen to from our home-away-from-home. It would be a pleasure to visit again; I highly recommend staying here if you’re anywhere near the area. It’s worth the drive, and has a saloon not too far up the road. Five stars and hope to be back soon. So peaceful and comfortable. Thank you, Matt and Liz!

Matt and Liz were extremely generous, kind, and welcoming! The area is beautiful and secluded with all camping and cooking amenities provided for, should you need them. The yurt was cozy and the outdoor kitchen was a blast to use! The farm animals (goats, sheep, chickens, hares, just to name a few) were adorable. Overall just a fantastic place to go to, if you need to get out of the city and relax!
