Weekend Trip to Selby Farm Horse Retirement

We ended up staying at site 2 by mistake but appreciate Doug’s grace in letting us stay. All the sites are clearly marked so if you come at night just trust that yours is there somewhere! We got Doug’s permission to feed the horses chopped up apples and my city girl heart just sang. Sunset 10/10, star gazing 10/10. Port-a potty was there and I think I saw a fire pit at each spot and there was a ton of firewood when we were there. Johnny Fox was a very enjoyable ambassador and his friendliness was another big highlight of the trip!

1 night at Big River Ranch

We were so happy with camping here! Especially for the price, it’s unbeatable. The restrooms/showers are very clean, it’s very easy to find your way around the sites (even in the dark!). The road is easy for even our little sedan to drive on, just kicks up some dust, as expected. The host was so kind. We had a tent site, which is a bit farther from the lodge that has the restrooms. Due to this, the host even offered to let us stay at a closer open campsite since we were arriving late and no one else had it reserved. This was a HUGE bonus as we had been traveling all day and just that little bit of kindness for a bit more ease was incredibly kind, and we are very grateful to Kinser! Everything about the campground itself was fantastic. Well maintained, no problems with finding it via GPS, not too far away from main freeways and big roads, but far enough you don’t get any traffic sounds as you sleep. Instead of traffic sounds, we got some relaxing nature and wildlife “white noise” :) I have stayed at campsites that aren’t even half as nice as this one, but cost a good chunk more. This place is fantastic and I highly recommend it! Thank you so much Kinser!

My boyfriend and I had an amazing tent stay on Michael’s property. The land goes right up to the water, is well kept and clean. Micheal greeted us and answered any questions we had. His wife came down was so kind to give us some fruit and pastries. Kayaks are in walking distance and there’s a well kept mile long trail around the property. We loved every minute of it and hope to go back soon.

Absolutely loved our time here! We have traveled 3855 miles and stayed at many different campgrounds. This is by far our favorite! The mile long walking trail through the woods was wonderful. We walked along the lake and found fun treasures to bring home. The best part was that our dogs were aloud to be dogs! No leashes required. Thank you for your hospitality!!

I just camped here for a few days with my brother and the land was beautiful. It was pretty easy to get to. There was both a tent camp site and an RV site. The RV site was very professional. The owners were super kind and there was a great bonfire area with gazebo. Luckily we had great weather, I’ll definitely stay here again.

With my grandsons, we had a great time camping at this very well manicured campsite. The views are great and Michael is a pro with his short orientation and availability to answer any questions. There were plenty of cut logs ready to build a nice campfire to sit around. The outdoor bathroom was like new and very clean.

This is a one-of-a-kind camping spot. Very private. Right on the water. Access to kayaks within walking distance. A nice campfire pit with more than enough fire would. A picnic table with a grill. And an a clean outhouse. The host was easy to communicate with and even stopped by a couple of times to say hello. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing time here! Michael has a beautiful property, with a very clean campsite and bathroom. We enjoyed waking up to the water and walking the trail around his land. He provided us plenty of firewood, and allowed our dogs to be off leash. We absolutely loved it, definitely would recommend. We want to come back if we’re ever in the area again:)

This was definitely one of my favorite Hipcamp locations! I had a wonderful experience and would 100% recommend. I hope to visit again for longer to enjoy more of the activities since I was only there for one night. The hosts (Mike, Arlene, and their dog Max), were SO welcoming and accommodating! They met me when I arrived, allowed me to park my RV closer to the water because it was smaller and didn't need a hookup, provided kayaks/life vests free of charge (at other Airbnb's it's $50 per day), and offered firewood for a fire. I was solo camping with my dog in our 18ft RV and felt so safe and comfortable. The land is spacious and beautiful and I'm grateful they're opening up their home to visitors. Mike and Arlene were the perfect mix of friendly, social, and helpful, as well as providing privacy. The nature trail walk was peaceful and when I kayaked I saw a bald eagle and 50+ pelicans! This was my first time visiting Missouri and this spot was definitely one of my highlights.

My two daughters and I spend two nights on Treloar Ranch and enjoyed our time. We set up in the back of the property and had no issues getting to our site. The hosts were very friendly and we enjoyed the farm fresh eggs we added on. My daughters were totally smitten with Gus and would return if only to visit him :)

This campsite was perfect for a fishing trip with the guys. While the water was low near the campsite, the access to the lake was incredible. Michael's storied collection of watercraft made it easy for us to get on the water and make way to deeper parts of the lake. There were lots of critters and wildlife to observe near the campsite, and a massive fire pit with plenty of fire wood generously offered for our use. We didn't have a chance to hike the trail, but the property is beautiful so I expect it is as well. Michael made sure to let us know he wasn't too far if we need anything. Our interactions with him were pleasant, and he has many stories to share. Michael has done a great job outfitting the camp with benches and fixtures that make it appealing. It is primitive enough, but has amenities that make it attractive for casual campers as well. You won't regret staying at this campsite!

Doug and Brenda are retired from teaching at nearby public schools. Our Farm is now dedicated to boarding retired horses for their owners. We encourage you to visit our business website where you will see more farm pictures, videos, and where you will learn more about us. We practice rotational grazing for the health of the horses and the health of our pastures. The horses live in a herd as they would in the wild. Basically, they are hanging out with their friends! They also get regular care and feed and so are VERY happy. You will see and probably interact with the horses if you wish. They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices. Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road. The native Americans who used this area did so because of the great diversity of wildlife and availability of water. Also the view is amazing in all directions. Was using this ridge top encampment for security, or just because the view is so satisfying? The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. Witness the flint chips when you walk through our barn lot. You are likely to see a broken stone tool that was once worked on by a native American. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

Green Acres at Red Brick Farmhouse

A quiet country retreat nestled in the picturesque rural outskirts of Higginsville, Missouri. Our place consists of three RV sites with water and electric hookups, two camping sites and one on-site travel trailer for rent. Wifi is available at all sites, except for Site 3. Green Acres at Red Brick Farm is located just 50 miles east of Kansas City off of I-70 at Exit 49. Once you are off of I-70 your drive is less than 8 minutes away on all blacktop roads. Site 2 is on gravel with 30 amp hookup and water, preferably best for RV’s and trailers 25’ and under. Site 1 and Site 3 are on gravel with a 20/30/50 amp hookup and water, best suited for larger RV’s and trailers. You may choose your site location, but due to the small number of sites we have we may have to alter your choice. This is so we can accommodate our guests in the best way possible, depending on the size of each rig. If you are towing a vehicle or pulling a trailer your total length should be 55’ or under. We will not accept Triple Axels. Site 4 and site 5 are for tents, pop ups, very tiny trailers and are in flexible locations. A 20 amp standard outlet can be provided for site 4 and site 5. For your use is a shower, toilet, and bathroom sink in our farmhouse basement. Please arrive before dusk, so you don’t disturb other campers. Site 6 Is the on-site travel trailer, ‘Ain’t She Cute’. No Pets are allowed when reserving ‘Ain’t She Cute’. The vintage style travel trailer is completely renovated and decorated with collectibles and antiques and is available for booking. It is furnished with a queen size bed, tiny kitchen, TV, wifi, and full size, not trailer size, bathroom. The trailer is for 2 guests, but an additional guest may sleep on the daybed, preferably a child or small adult. We live onsite in our 1920’s Prairie Style home which is also Red Brick Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast with three Guest Rooms available for booking. Look us up online. At your disposal, is the use of our outdoor furniture, a large yard to walk around in, a fire pit, a BBQ grill, and even a tire swing. Our restaurant, Red Shanty Cafe and BBQ, is located in the town of Higginsville, about 5 miles from Red Brick Farmhouse. Red Shanty Cafe is open Weds and Thurs, 11am - 8 pm and Fri and Sat, 11am - 9pm.
