Whether you’re taking an RV road trip along the Natchez Trace Parkway, fishing and boating around the lakes and rivers, or cooling off at the Gulf Coast beaches in the south―a Mississippi camping trip is more fun if you can bring your four-legged family along for the ride. Our northern boundary is a tract of DeSoto National Forest, where we have practically exclusive access to another 90 acres of longleaf pine savannah and more bottomland creeks. The sandhills are a "desert in the rain," home to prickly pear cactus and yuccas, abundant lichens (deer "moss"), the endangered black pine snake, and our mascot, the also endangered Gopher Tortoise. We're a nature education and retreat center where we share permaculture practices, homesteading/sustainable living skills, conservation practices, and approaches to connecting more deeply to the land. Check out our sister non-profit, the Burrow Nature Center. 95 acres on the beautiful Topisaw Creek. Here we've raised 5 kids and a multitude of dogs, cats and chickens and a small herd of pineywoods cattle. The woods are quiet and undisturbed , harboring native species like jack in the pulpit, trillium and Florida anise. The spring-fed (and thus always refreshing!) Topisaw Creek forms the eastern border of our property, so plan to spend time on the sandy beaches and rock bars soaking up the sun or hunting for rocks and fossils (petrified wood and arrowheads have been found here). Many folks also enjoy a leisurely float down the creek in inner tubes ('tubing') or in a kayak. (Please note that after heavy rains the creek rises to epic heights and is too dangerous to navigate.) Little to no light pollution makes for amazing stargazing!

Campers can pick blueberries when they are in season (June-July)--limit 2 pints per site per day. Wildlife is abundant. You will hear owls and coyotes at night. Often bald eagles can be spotted at both lakes. Other wildlife you may see: deer, wild turkey, raccoons, opossums, fox, bobcat, coyote, rabbits, armadillo, otter, and squirrels. Please do not approach the wild animals! There is a pretty creek for those who like to creek walk. Petrified wood can be picked up in the creek bed. These have some of the finest crappie fishing in the United States. We are located 2 miles east of the Trans America Trail.

Best catfishing in the state. No fishing license is required. Just start fishing. Borders Big Black civil war battlefield. Pets are family and always welcome. Off leash is fantastic as long as your good with it. Lots of room to run. Jon boats with motors, Kayaks and ATV's always ok. Large stretches of sand bars when water permits. Not far from I-20. Great cell reception. Good restaurant down the road in Bovina. Loves truck stop just down the road. The existing road going in "Vickors Rd" can be bumpy, dusty, wet and may hold pools of water at times but the road itself is solid and will support the heaviest of vehicles.

Our stay was out of the ordinary! It rained and poured and everyone lost power, however that did not stop our host from making sure that we had adequate directions got set up properly and even size off to our next stop. I would definitely recommend this location and totally give it five stars.

This site is extraordinary : beautiful lake with a walk around path. John has made a specific place with an exclusive living room, a kitchenette and fridge next to the shower and toilets for use by the guests. Everything neat and comfortable. The campsite with hookups is very nice and with a stone table and chairs under beautiful trees. Horses and chiken are so friendly and not too far. We really enjoyed this moment of calm and rest. Thanks for all this very nice place.

The Ranch was perfect. Peaceful but easy to get to. I felt very safe there. Having access to a toilet was a welcome bonus! The animals were so much fun to meet. I spent my evening journaling at one of the picnic tables in the shade and left a first light. Highly recommend!

Mississippi State parks apparently don't do same day booking online but how lucky we were to pop hipcamp open and find Austin and his super sweet families multi generation Ranch. It's wild story, but we were thrilled. One night is not enough. two wasnt either. Baby piglets and all the animals were super friendly and there is a vibrant and curious energy about the whole place. I can't wait to see what's next for them. Just off the Natchez Trace. Perfect introduction to that Mississippi Hospitality thing. Kids loved the peacocks, piglets and the random goat parades and goats standing on things.

An amazing stay near the end of the Nachez Trace Parkway. Highly recommend! John and his wife were very welcoming and their little horse farm complete with cats, chickens and purple martins is beautiful. The shower and screened bath house was clean and very relaxing.
