We are located 12 miles south of Sault Ste Marie 1/3 mile west of M-129 on 12 Mile Road. It is a dirt road. The entrance is on the left or south side of the road.
The property is good for either tent camping or a parking place for RVs. There is a new driveway that leads to the camping or parking areas. You can drive on the grass to get to the campsite. The campsite area is 50 yards from the road. You can set up anywhere in the cut grass area. There will be two white chairs and a garbage can. A small camp porta potty is available for your use.

Built in 1889 as a light station keeper’s house, this property later served the U.S. Coast Guard until it was decommissioned in the 1970s. Our family acquired it at auction in the 1980s, and we've cherished it ever since.

Welcome to our family’s historic property on remote and beautiful Neebish Island, Michigan—home to freighter views, starry skies, and timeless peace and quiet. Built in 1889 as a light station keeper’s house, this property later served the U.S. Coast Guard until it was decommissioned in the 1970s. Our family acquired it at auction in the 1980s, and we've cherished it ever since.
We’re now opening up parts of the land for rustic camping and self-contained RVs to help preserve and maintain this special place. This is not a polished campground—it’s a unique, raw, and beautiful setting where you can truly unplug and connect with nature, water, and history.
Located right on the St. Marys River, with unobstructed views of freighters and shipping vessels along the St. Lawrence Seaway, this spot is perfect for anyone who loves maritime history, photography, or just peaceful waterfront camping. Sunsets and sunrises are spectacular, and the beach is sandy and swimmable.
Campers can enjoy:
A wood-fired sauna right on the river (perfect for a dip afterward!)

Excellent area for canoeing or kayaking - bring your own boat! The current on the St. Mary's river is VERY fast so be careful. Paddle upstream first and then use the current to return to the campsite.
Regular wildlife sightings: eagles, herons, deer, and more
Neebish Island is remote. Access is via a car ferry from Barbeau, MI, and cell reception is limited—plan for a digital detox. You'll need to research and plan around the car ferry schedule, which is limited to a few runs per/day.
This is a great spot for campers, vanlifers, paddlers, and freighter fans who appreciate quiet, history, and open sky. Interior access to the historical house is not included, but the land is yours to enjoy.

Mountain Magic was purchased 10 years ago to begin an off-grid dream for self-reliant Wilderness Survivalist Kellie Nightlinger of Naked and Afraid fame. Kellie is the top-ranked female survivalist in the world as voted on thetoptens.com/survivalexpertskellienightlinger. Kellie teaches wilderness survival and is building her own log cabin on adjacent property to the HipCamp site. Kellie and her new life-partner Rich would be available to teach Survival and off-grid skills to campers schedule permitting. Kellie searched for the perfect off-grid property for 8 years before buying Mountain Magic. The property is steep mountainous terrain with in hiking distance of the Continental Divide Trail. The property is one of the few properties near the trail as one would traverse from the Canadian border in a sourtherly hike or bike or ride before reaching the second paved road transecting the Continental Divide Trail south of the Canadian Border. There are often Elk, Mule Deer, and occasionally White Tail Deer, Mountain Lion, Black Bear and once in a blue moon a Grizzly Bear on the property. Mountain Magic has a great view down a Long valley leading to the Rocky Mountain Front and the Great Plains. The property is situated between 5400-6000’ in elevation. Mountain Magic can be accessed in non-snowy conditions via a private back-County road that switchbacks up the mountainsides from a paved State Highway. In months with snow this off-grid gem can be accessed via snowshoe, AT Skis, Telemark Skis, Snow Cat, or Snowmobile. Transportation may be available by Kellie or Rich depending upon schedule. Mountain Magic is located behind a private gate. Kellie’s log cabin build is now being completed by The Kellie and Rich Team. Cabin amenities available to HipCampers are up for negotiation and consideration. Owner was easy to reach. Site is nice and quiet. Neighbors are close but we never heard or saw them. Easily backed our 40 ft class A into site with enough space for two cars and our dolly. You truly are sitting lakefront. I sat on a couple of boulders and just watched the waves. So incredibly peaceful.
Instructions were clear and directions were easy to follow.
One thing I will note is that you truly are rural - there is a grocery store and a few food options, but it's limited. Of you are an early riser, know that many of the food establishments open later.
The site is absolutely gorgeous. I simply could not have asked for a better experience.

Weekend Trip to Just Show Up Camping
I loved the view! Granted it was very windy the day I stayed there so that’s something to consider since your by lake. Very easy to get to the site and overall pretty clean. Had some clutter here and there but not a big deal. My only major critique is one, maybe put stone down on the path to the beach because it had really deep ruts and it was very muddy. I got my car stuck quite a few times. The other is the shower water did not really get warm. Again, not the end of the world but addressing those few things would make the site even better than it already is. Overall I’d give it an 8/10

Absolutely awesome campsite! The location couldn’t be better—close to the ferry for easy access to Drummond Island, yet tucked away enough to feel completely private and peaceful. The views of Lake Huron and Strawberry Island are absolutely beautiful and make this spot even more special. The host was outstanding—friendly, responsive, and an excellent communicator. Everything exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely be back!

This place was awesome! We were able to park right where we could see the boats coming from the Soo Locks. We hooked up to the electric and filled jugs at the water spicket provided. We did not hook up our water. We only saw one area for water. We definitely enjoyed our stay. The little market down the road wasn’t expensive. We even bought tortillas there!

Great location to camp with full hook up. Walking distance to both a beautiful small lake and a beautiful Lake Superior beach. Located in a quiet neighborhood. The scenic byway is beautiful to drive and offers many places to stop and enjoy Superior. The neighbors on one side are a little close, but it was no problem at all. We hope to be back because we love this area so much.

This is a perfect spot to stay on your visit to the Upper Peninsula. It is conveniently located near a grocery store, convenience stores, and restaurants. Unfortunately, the food trucks were not open while we were there. You are a few short steps from the water on White Fish Bay and a sandy beach. We will definitely stay here again.

I really enjoyed staying at Heather's property. The view of the St. Mary's River is amazing and it was fun to watch the freighters go by. It is a very peaceful spot. Heather wasn't there so I didn't have the opportunity to meet her, but she was responsive to my messages. I would definitely recommend this lovely spot and would stay there again.
Note regarding cell service: I have Verizon and my phone connected to a tower in Canada -- when it did occasionally connect. The connection was 3G so it was very poor. Other times, there was no connection at all.

We had such a lovely time here! We’re Neebish Newbies and loved it. The freighters were a highlight for my fiancé and I loved the beautiful beach all to ourselves. Our dogs were able to be off leash all weekend which was so great! We went for a few brisk swims and enjoyed the dock for sunning. At night, we had wonderful fires with the provided fire pit and benches (nice to not have to bring camp chairs!) I can’t say enough good things about this camp!

My husband and I stayed at Superior Sunrises and had a great time! The place was easy to find and tucked away. You're very close to restaurants and stores which is great, but it's tucked back far enough to feel secluded.
The deck overlooking Lake Superior was definitely our favorite part. Absolutely stunning!
It was very nice having access to electricity and water. We didn't plan on using it, but it got pretty cold so we had to pull out our tent heater.
The hosts were very helpful and created a great space for memories.
We will absolutely be back in the summer!

Compared to the business and crowds of the nearby state campgrounds, this is an oasis. Also so fun that there are amenities like a small grocery store and a couple cafes/food trucks within walking distance.

This was by far my favorite camping trip. Everything was so clean, calm, serene, well put together, and gorgeous. We drove 7 hours just to spend 2 nights here and it was well worth it. The beauty of the site cannot be fully captured in pictures. Once we arrived, we didn’t even leave the site. So much to do with paddling, exploring strawberry island, walking along the shores and just enjoying the views. This is a one of a kind location. My two dogs had a blast and got to roam free the whole weekend. There is also just an overall safe feeling you get at this campsite.
Everything is perfect and well thought out. I hope to return!
