We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota. While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed by hikers and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

We have basic electricity, a country swing, a dock if you would like to fish- we also have nice grassy walking paths and a wooded area as well. Our land is very peaceful and safe. We are less than a mile off Old 27, close to 127 and 5 miles to I-69 DeWitt Exit. Drop by and stay for a night on your way to your final destination or relax and stay for a few days, Our first site is open for tent or RV. Our new heated barn has a flush-toilet, sink, shower, washer and dryer. Less than a mile down the road is our local tavern with good, affordable food and welcoming vibe. Our home sits in the middle of a large clover lawn surrounded by woods, a pond and low-land meadow with high grass and wildflowers. Walking trails are cut through the woods and meadow providing ability to see deer, rabbits, dragonflies, butterflies, birds, cranes, blue and green heron and native flowers. We sometimes see raccoons, eagle, hawk, wood peckers, coyote and fox. During the day you'll see our ducks and chickens free-ranging and our sheep may join them or be in their pasture. We have an active homestead farm and we are focused on building a thriving environment for pollinators. Autumn brings the honey harvest and in the spring maple syrup... you're always welcome around the fire.

Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

We are located on the north edge of Battle Creek Michigan, close to both M-66 and M-37. We are a mile from Bailey Park, which hosts the Battle Creek Battle Jacks Baseball team and also many Baseball and Softball tournaments. We have a 45,000 gallon pool on site, that can be shared by those who stay here. There are Lots of tall trees of many varieties, and we have a combination of grassy space and wooded areas that can be explored. Our property is also home to lots of birds and other wildlife. Deer, turkeys, bunnies, hawks, and lots of other critters all call our property home.

Spending the evening here was the most enjoyable and relaxing experience I’ve had camping 🏕️ I stayed in my little camper van and it was perfect for my vehicle! Woke up to bird song and soft rustling prairie grasses. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. The host was kind and generous and was a perfect fit to this fairytale style camping trip. 1 night at Three Happy Turtles

We loved our night with the 3 Happy Turtles! Audrey greeted us and was so welcoming and nice. She even gave us fun recommendations for food nearby and offered to do a bonfire or movie night. So sweet! The spot by the barn is so magical, peaceful and quiet. The sunset was beautiful and just what we needed on our trip across the country!

Molly and Kevin were nice host, checked in on us via the hipcamp app and made sure we didn't need anything. They have a beautiful landscape for camping and any other family event. It was nice and spacious plus the star view was awesome at night and they also have a nice trail that leads back to more wide open land and a pond for fishing.

Weekend Trip to Life Adventures

Woods campsite #4 is absolutely amazing. It's close to a house, but plenty secluded, quiet and up on a small hill. Super close to the bathhouse which is rustic, but clean. Better yet within 20 minutes of being set up we were peacefully greated by Luke the pup who proceeded to be our campground guide, fire sentient, the bestest trail walk supervisor and even slept on our mat outside the tent at night.

⸻ Such a lovely getaway! 💜 Loved the lavender tour and farm shop — Liz’s eggs and teas are amazing. Peaceful, beautiful, and soul-filling. Grateful for this little gem! 🌿✨

Site # 2 is about half way down the pond from the main house. A dock, suitable for sunbathing, picnicking or fishing is just steps away from this site.

This was my first Hipcamp stay. It was fantastic! I plan to stay here again. My 4 small dogs had a blast being off leash. They stayed in the area rolling in the grass and hunting chipmunks. (They never catch them). We stayed here to be close to our grandkids and watch them play football nearby. Nice fire with a barrel of firewood for $5 extra. I got a brief view one morning of the black dog everyone mentioned, but he was just passing thru. Played some Frisbee golf. Checked out the bathhouse and the cabins. This is the exact type of place I like to camp at. I have a class C that is fully self contained so I didn't need water or electricity, but they are available.

Lovely lovely land. Michael and Dawn are very sweet and friendly, willing to show you their amazing land (sheep, beehives, chickens, ducks, very nice trails in the back for an evening stroll). Very cozy and I was very happy to have found them on my journey!

On a 6 week camping road trip and so glad we ventured off the beaten path and found Carls property. Great kind hosts that made sure we had what we needed to make it a special stay. The property is big and beautiful with rolling hills, and an abundance of wildlife. Our site was very clean and secluded and made for a very peaceful night sleep. 100 recommend this to anyone looking for a great safe space to stay. One of our favorite spots so far!
