You'll be camping on our Stanley lake sugarbush property. Lakefront sites have power and water - are located in a grassy clearing on the shores of Stanley Lake. ABSOLUTELY NO CHARGING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES ON PROPERTY!! Primitive sites are amongst the maple trees of our sugarbush operation, within walking distance of the lake. These sites do not yet have water or electricity, but water is available from spigots at the lake clearing. Stanley lake is just shy of 400 acres, known for walleye and bass. A hidden gem nestled between the comforts of lake living and a backdoor to the expansive Nicolet National Forest. Recreational opportunities are year-round, including recreational vehicle and fishing opportunities on and around the 417 acre lake flowage. The private +2 acre property has panoramic views of the secluded headwaters opening into the main flowage. Set back off the main lake, wildlife viewing, especially birding, is the best I have experienced. Neotropical migratory bird species are abundant in the Spring as well as a resident breeding pair of Trumpeter Swans, many ducks(!), Bald Eagles, Loons, Sand-Hill cranes; many woodpecker spp. including Pileated; Screech, Barred and Great horned owls. Some of the more entertaining wildlife include deer, otter, beaver, muskrats, red squirrels and the occasional wandering black bear (no problem bears). In the Spring, the esker's neighboring wetlands come alive with many frog and turtle species. For me, the allure of the wild still dominates here. The esker provides an amazing vantage point with nearly 270 degree panoramic views of the flowage. From the Gazebo, take one of two paths to the overlook before descending down to the lakefront. In 2021, I plan on adding a short pier but the natural rocky peninsula already provides excellent access into the deeper thalweg, an excellent fishing/ swimming hole! All pontoon and fishing boats can be accommodated here. Learn more about this land:The property is located towards the end of a Forest Service road (Meadowlark Lane) with one year-round resident at the end. There's a large turn-around for trailers and larger vehicles. Neighbors are well separated, located over the ridgeline and out of earshot. The property has a relatively wide, flat 100 foot driveway to the cabin from the road. Easy access to the cabin from the driveway. The cabin is surrounded by mature maple/birch/balsam/hemlock forest and several wetland/tamarack bogs (very diverse terrain bordering the lake). At the base of the cabin there's a small pier for direct kayak and canoe access. Larger boats can easily dock on the lake-end of the property, a short walk from the cabin. From the natural driveway a concrete paver staircase leads up to the main campsite (see pics). The campsite includes a 3 season 14 foot enclosed gazebo with electricity. Essentially, the land is a 2 acre esker (kettle moraine feature) that serpentines through the woods to Reservoir "Pond" lake system. Excellent views of the lake! The Flowage has headwaters from McCauslin brook and connects 3 lakes totaling 417 acres. Maximum depth 27 feet. Fishing and Pontoon boat docking on shoreline. The closest boat launch is on Horn Lake which is passed on the way to the cabin and approximately a half mile away as the crow flies. Plenty of areas for tenting/ wall tents, 2 picnic tables (one near the cabin and the other by the gazebo), and a separate outhouse with toiletries at the top of the hill. Attractions in the Area: Sleepy Hollow Minature Golf on Nicolet Rd (just East of Horn Lake) Sunset Resort of Townsend located on the SE end of the flowage. Accessible by boat or short drive from camp on Burnt Dam Road. Hill Crest Lodge Supper Club on Nicolet Rd (you'll pass on the way in) 4 Stars. Birch Hills Resort and Bar (over the bridge from Hill Crest) 5 Stars. Norm's Log Cabin started out as a back 40 acre camp from the 1970's. Hunting is not Allowed on Property. Over the years we have taken time to make some improvements. We have acquire additional adjoining property and run some electricity. We have pieced together 160 contiguous acres over the years, and continue to manage the property as a family gathering location as well as doing some occasional log harvesting. This is the place to get away from it all, but still be in striking distance to several attractions. A full service restaurant in La Branch which is a short 12 minute drive SE, and a local hang out called the Red Arrow which is a 5 minute drive NW. The Cabin sits at the end of a long 1/4 mile driveway in the middle of the 160 acre plot of trees. You need to cross Anderson Creek, and drive past another hunting camp near the front entrance. This front 40 acre camp (Anderson Creek Camp) is another more rustic option then Norm's Log Cabin. The road leading to this driveway off of Highway 69 is near the village of Hardwood. Along Highway 69 is a snowmobile/ORV trail managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and can be easily reached via the gravel road to/from camp. That specific trail is designated as A, and runs the length of Highway 69 and intersects ORV trail AG which would bring you into Escanaba. There is many and frequent ORV activity on this trail, and there are many stopping points for refreshments along the way. Hardwood Impoundment Pond is the closest body of water to Norm's Log Cabin, and can be reached by car or ATV. This impoundment pond is really the back waters of a local dam in the area, and can be fished from the bank or off the bridge that goes across the area. Very easily reachable. Again this is just a place to get away from it all and take in the outdoors. We can supply some ideas of places to visit . . .

Weekend Trip to Simplicity @Top Of The Hill Huskies

This spot is a truly perfect off-grid getaway. I couldn't have asked for a more prepared or inviting experience. The host went above and beyond by having the wood stove prepped and ready for immediate use, along with some initial firewood provided. Since the temperature dropped into the 30s, I did burn through two bundles of wood over the course of the night to stay warm (which worked perfectly, with the fire only needing restarting once!). The cabin itself is a cozy sanctuary, and it was exactly the recharge I needed. I am already wanting my next trip back! Future visitors: If you're staying during cold weather, be prepared for at least two bundles of wood to last the night. Also, I highly recommend bringing a good camping lantern with you, a flashlight felt a little weak for lighting the whole space.

We had a lovely time staying here. The little shack was so cute and cozy. Everything was very well taken care of and clean. We absolutely plan on staying here again in the future. Waking up to the sunrise in the large window was truly beautiful.

We had a wonderful weekend at Diana’s place! Everything we could’ve needed was provided, and the location was easy to find. She was kind enough to let us meet her dogs and made sure the mud on the trail was covered each day. Definitely will be coming back again!

This place was perfect - a cozy Midwest romantic getaway, as my boyfriend called it. We stayed in the orange tiny house, which had two beds, and an indoor fireplace which kept us warm at night. Diane provided us with plenty firewood and had other cooking utensils if needed. The stars were beautiful at night as well which was an added plus. We loved how private and cozy the stay was. We plan to come back again next month! Thank you Diane!

The shed is a great little spot! Clean and comfortable. Was a bit muddy to get there, but not a big deal if you have all wheel drive. It is in the woods, a little mud is expected after rain. Nice to walk with my dog off-leash on the trails they use for the dog sledding. You can hear the huskies sometimes, but they were silent thru out the entire night. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and be back myself sometime!

We had the most magical fall getaway in the forests of Upper Wisconsin, it was absolute paradise! 🍂 We stayed in the adorable cabin, which was cozy perfection with super comfy beds and lovely bedding. The stove was such a treat. We accidentally got it way too hot and had to air it out, but it made the cabin feel extra warm and romantic. Our pup Leslie loved being off-leash and exploring the property, and the short, beautiful walking trails they carved out were perfect for peaceful strolls. We also loved that there’s so much great hiking nearby if you want to drive out and explore. Even with a rainy weekend, it was perfect to snuggle up in the cabin and enjoy the sounds of birds, ducks, coyotes, and the friendly huskies on site. The nearby town of Eagle River is so charming, we could almost plan another trip just to hang out there! The host was perfect: super responsive but gave us total privacy to enjoy our solitude. Highly recommend for anyone craving cozy comfort, fall colors, and complete relaxation!

Excellent experience. Truly private cabin/shack tucked away on host's land. Wood stove made it incredibly cozy and the host was kind enough to stock firewood for us to use. Beautiful forest to hike in and hearing the dogs howling as a pack at night was unique delight.

This place is perfect! Private, cozy, with beautiful views and the sounds of nature. It was fun hearing the huskies off in the distance, owls at night, and seeing a few turkey and deer during the day. Our dogs were just as happy to have time away from “the city”. The wood furnace kept us toasty in the cooler evenings and the beds were snuggly with plenty of blankets and pillows. 10/10 will be returning.

Diane was such a sweet host! She let me borrow her ATV to get from the “shed” to my car and even let me ride it around on the trails for fun. The “shed” was also very comfortable! The bed was great and I loved the window looking out into the field. I would recommend this stay to anyone and will definitely return next time I’m in the area.

Beautiful secluded area. We saw and heard deer and bear driving in and during our stay. Cabin was roomy with a divider wall and two sleeping areas. Full kitchen well supplied. Large bathroom with shower. Nice firepit area. Very quiet and peaceful setting. Highly recommend.

I can’t say enough good things about this glamping site! The hosts thought of absolutely everything. What I loved most was how it balanced comfort with the outdoors. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how peaceful and welcoming this place felt. The scenery was beautiful, the air fresh and crisp, and the surroundings so well cared for. The tent was spotless, beautifully decorated, and surprisingly spacious—complete with the luxury of a comfy bed, on-site bathroom, and showers. Private from other sites. Don’t have to worry about the stress of packing, just need clothes and food, everything else we packed was already supplied. We enjoyed relaxing by the fire, exploring the area, complementary games, and just soaking in the quiet beauty all around. It truly felt like a little escape from everyday life, and we are so grateful for the chance to experience it. Thank you for your hospitality and for creating such a special spot—we will remember our time here fondly and hope to return in the future!

Super cozy and cute bungalow, would definitely love to stay here again. All the little extras made it even nicer and sleeping on a mattress was great. Only thing that could’ve made this better were if the lights on the outside were working. We had a somewhat rainy visit and didn’t stay by the fire longer after it stopped due to them not being on. Good thing I had a couple lights to give a a little more lighting. But we still enjoyed our night stay very much. Very roomy. Enjoyed listening to the wildlife and rain. Thank you Kyanna!

Spacious tent with comfortable bed. Porta-potty and pump-operated solar shower right in the campsite are nice. Towels, extra blankets, and some campfire supplies are provided. The setting is peaceful with a mix of meadow grass and flowers, and pine trees.
