Weekend Trip to The Crow’s Nest

My hosts were warm, inviting, and gracious. Being a solo traveler can be scary sometimes but they made me feel right at home. Inviting me to their bonfire as well as offering to let me borrow their kayak plus a drive up the River. I cannot say enough good things about them. The wigwam itself was a unique experience and was very temperature controlled with a fan and comfortable beds. Be sure to bring your own pillows. I will definitely be back and with friends next time!

A great campground when visit central Michigan, Bay City or Saginaw Bay. A very quiet campground. Our hosts Angela and Jim were fabulous and very helpful. A stay here would not be complete without a visit to nearby Gladwin.

2 nights at CUT RIVER CABIN AT HIGGINS LAKE

We loved hanging out by and in the river all day. Our goal for the stay was to enjoy being outside by the water with the dogs. It was a great opportunity to enjoy the environment without having to be bothered by other folks and their unleashed dogs. We enjoyed playing on the kayaks as well. The beauty and sounds of nature was a perfect backdrop of the disconnect from the world. There was ample shade by the sandy beach to allow for relaxing. The river bed was sandy and not mucky. We saw lots of birds and a baby water snake. The outhouse was clean and setup for your comfort. The cabin was too warm to hang out in during the day but why would you when outside was perfect. Inside the cabin was clean and free from pests. We had brought our Jackery generator which allowed us to recharge the batteries of our shop fans. It may be too warm in the summer without a fan or two in you while sleeping. We had a great time and look forward to staying in the fall where it’s warm during the day and cooler at night.

Jeff was a wonderful host! The cabin was nice and clean. He had everything you would need while camping, cooking utensils, pans, flashlight and Lanterns, and so many more little items you may forget. He turely has the site set up with more than you would expect. The site is private but still convenient to get to the lake or town. I would highly recommend Jeff’s cabin and plan to go back next year.

This place is incredible! River out front is deep enough to swim and fish in, there’s lot of kayaks and canoes to take up river, lots of sleeping space, very secluded, nice deck, and even a sauna! We will definitely be coming back!

Jeff's property was perfect place to relax and unwind! Cabin was clean and cozy. Cabin had heater which was plus for us on a chilly night. Jeff was a great host, came by even during late hours to show us the property and amenities. Property had all the utensils, grill items to cook which we had not seen in any other hip camp sites. Overall we had an amazing stay.

The Lake House Lodge gives you a comfortable stay at Arrowhead Lake Camp. This cabin is located on the end of the main lodge which is close to all the main attractions. I have almost an acre my wife and I are turning into a small private camping experience. Lot it’s fully wooded plenty of shade located just south of west branch so conveniently close to shopping. Miles and miles of local trails and hunting locations only minutes down the road or a short drive to the Saint Helen trail system without all the congestion of staying locally. Each site is different to meet different needs all are rustic one tent/small camper or pop up the other is setup to take a camper up to around 25 ft. Main campsite is still under construction and the shed is being converted into a cabin but you could bring your camper. There currently is a small solar system for electric and a rain water collection system with filter and an outdoor camp shower with hot water and over 500 gallons reservoir and outhouse in the works next. We had a storm possible tornado I wasn’t here but did major damage to many trees and knocked down several others I’m looking for people willing to trade a few hours of labor for free camping tasks will be assigned based on capabilities from moving and burning branches to running chainsaw and wood splitter and if knowledgeable in construction have stairs and deck/platforms and other related projects associated with building a campground.

The Crow’s Nest

This property was once part of an 80 acre farm. It has now grown into a mature forest with deer, turkey, squirrels, chipmunks, many types of songbirds and most recently a family of sandhill cranes. Our most recent improvement is an air conditioner in the Crow's Nest. Sheila grew up just across the road and spent many hours riding her horse and writing poetry on the property. No discharge of firearms is allowed on this property. As a retired artist, we love to entertain creative peaceful people and many think of our place as a quiet sanctuary that encourages creativity. We provide games, both outdoor and indoor, a screen house, hammock, nature trails and a new camp store with local items and snacks. There is an Amish community close by and a tour map is provided. We are also close to the largest canopy walk in the US at Whiting Forest and Dow Gardens. Only 25 minutes away. There is a small water park in the closest town with a beach. Locally there is tubing and canoeing at the Cedar River in Gladwin and kayaking at Pinconning Park on Saginaw Bay.
