Appreciate all that Northern Michigan has to offer with serene and relaxing wooded trails that can be followed onto state land (miles of hiking/ORV/Snowmobile trails). Visit nearby Lake Charlevoix, Walloon Lake, or Thumb Lake for boating/swimming/paddling, or Bear Creek Nature Preserve for additional hiking/natural areas. This 20-acre property is surrounded by public land and is a short hike to Rapid River, which is nestled in a valley of giant cedars and white pines. The property has trails through a hardwood forest of maples, beeches and cherry trees. There is also an open meadow that boasts an abundance of wildlife. The property is secluded on a deadend two-track less than two miles from US-131 between Kalkaska and Mancelona. Torch Lake is only a 20-minute drive and Traverse City is about 50 minutes away.
There is a clean porta-potty and water can be provided on request. Also, a 4-person tent can be provided at an additional cost. The campsite has a fire ring, shovel and plenty of wood for late night fires. The Raven's Nest is a cozy 12 x 16 cabin. It is an off-grid experience with a wood stove for winter adventures.
The property is a work in progress, with a goal of it becoming an eco-retreat with updated accommodations. We hope you return for more adventures to see the progress.

Welcome to our camp! If you are a Harvest Host / Boondockers Welcome member you get your first two nights as part of your membership, please book those through the HH site. We have 11 acres, currently with a really ugly old farm home on site that is a rehab in progress, but a beautiful property. We are located a few miles from Torch Lake and walking distance to a public access on Elk lake. Close proximity to Elk Rapids, Alden, Williamsburg, and Traverse City and all those areas have to offer. We have water fill and a dump station on site, and we are working on electrical hook ups. Our property has many open areas to park, some very level, some not. We have woods and a large hill area with lots of birds and wildlife to see. We can accommodate large rigs, small rigs, and all in between. Pets are welcome but must be leashed as we have two of our own dogs. If you have any questions or needs, do not hesitate to ask, we will always try to accommodate. We were previous Harvest Hosts at our prior property, we have spent time as camp hosts, and have travelled the country in our RV and like to think we have a great understanding of what makes a nice camp experience and we will do everything we can to make sure that is the case, cheers!

Peterman Farm is a beautiful spot! It's a very peaceful location on a dead-end road with no neighbors near the farmhouse. The views are lovely: rolling hills, beautiful sunsets and visiting deer. This was the perfect place to camp. Don't miss out on this spot!

Super easy to find, amazing carpet of wildflowers greeted us. Fun to walk around the fields that are nicely mowed with solar lighting that lead you to the platform for stargazing. Outhouse is clean and near campsite.

I would highly recommend this Hipcamp . The owners are very nice. We were met upon arrival, we picked a spot and owner mowed prior to us setting up our camper. This camp is in a great location. Minutes away from two lakes. Central location , allowed travel during the day to Traverse City, Charlevoix and Potoskey. Great bike trails along Lake Michigan, and of course Kayaking. This is a gem!! Enjoy!!

The reasonable price was what initially caught our eye as rustic tent-stayers, but the property, location, and host were all absolutely perfect. Beautiful, easy to get to, yet secluded and quiet. Lovely evening hike through the nicely manicured fern and raspberry trail on the property. Beautiful drive to Torch Lake, Traverse City, etc.
Todd gave great instructions about locations, was respectfully hands-off, and helpful to my questions about good swimming spots nearby.
Can't wait to stay in the cabin on the property come ski season!

Sunset Campsite is quiet and peaceful. During the day you hear birds, and after dark there’s a lightning-bug show in the tall grasses. The pad is flat, drains well, and faces west, so sunsets are wide-open. The country road to the back of the site gets maybe four or five cars all day—so brief they never break the calm. Now and then you might catch a faint hum from the distant highway, but it’s so soft you may not even notice it. The host’s house and one neighbor are within sight but far enough away to keep the site feeling private. You’ll appreciate the amenities, especially the fire ring. This is an ideal spot for anyone who wants to feel safe but not crowded. It’s a pleasant stopover that beats the busier options near Mackinac Island and the Mackinac Bridge.
