Our 75 acres is a wonderful, diverse mix of habitat, harmoniously integrated with our small farm. This land was the homestead of the very first non native settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock. The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Our location is convenient to the Berkshire Mountains, state parks, hiking and other attractions, including Ramble Wild tree to tree adventures and Jiminy Peak. There are a few miles of rail trail access just down the road.

The Guilford Fairgrounds is less than 1/4 mile away and has many hiking and biking trails. The land was originally part of a colonial Glebe Trust with the Church of England and divided up, the original 100+ year farmhouse and barn can be seen from many of the campsites. Guilford, Vermont is located in the southeast of Windham County, resting along the Massachusetts border to the south and New Hampshire not far to the east. A community with a long and interesting history, Guilford was actually Vermont’s largest town as long ago as 1790. Now, with a population of about 2,100, its by no means considered a large community yet with its beautiful old covered bridges, churches, and one-room schoolhouse, Guilford maintains an unmistakable sense of history while at the same time having a reputation as one of the truly unique small communities in southern Vermont. Guilford has some of the most quintessential small town landmarks in all of Vermont. Sites like the Christ Church, Broad Brook House, and Guilford Center Meeting House were all built in the early 19th Century and are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings are found in what is considered the historic Center; shop for great local products at the Guilford Country Store, visit the charming Free Library, or even see some of the exhibits at the Historical Society Museum to learn more about the area and its history. Each tree is beautiful in its own way, but perhaps no trunk is better for squeezing than those in the 200-year old white pine grove in the Whittemore Recreation Area of the Peoples Forest. One can only hug so many trees, however, so it’s a good thing there are lots of other things to do in the American Legion and Peoples State Forests. The trails that wind through these wooded acres will keep hikers on their feet for days on end. And the waters of the wild and scenic West Branch of the Farmington River attracts kayakers and fishers from all over Connecticut and even neighboring states. But if you want to just come and squeeze an oak, no one will fault you.

I enjoyed my peaceful camping spot on Jessica's lovely land. There was plenty of firewood, if needed. I did not get to meet my host in person, but Jessica checked in by text to make sure I was doing ok. Her land is well maintained and the location is close to a State Park and to stores and shopping. The land is on a slight incline and it can get windy. Highly recommend and will make plans to return when it's a bit warmer!

Cynthia is an amazing human and great conversation! Her farm is an amazing property. Absolutely worth stepping foot on. I slept better here than I have in a very long time. Great views all around. Was in the area to visit a family member in Amherst. This was a welcome place to camp at the end of a few busy, long days. Didn't get to experience and enjoy the property as much as I'd hoped (didn't have enough time during my days there). However, I'll gladly book this Hipcamp again! Cynthia greeted me upon arrival, and showed me where the bathroom was (it's a nice walk through a very well kept horse barn). She even turned on the bathroom heater before I got there (my stay was during fall nights that got a bit cold). I car camped in an SUV and had no problem finding a level spot to park and set-up my sleeping area for the night. Lighting at night on the property felt safe and bright...but not TOO bright.

Christian was an excellent host, and we really enjoyed staying on the farm! The horses were beautiful. Only a few mins walk to drinking water and porta potty. We car camped and the camp site was the perfect size for it.

Laurel Ridge Farm is Litchfield's largest estate, a working grass-fed beef farm, and the site of a well-loved tourist attraction that appears every spring: the Laurel Ridge Daffodils. Guests will have access to a large, flat pasture with easy road access—an open field of about 50 acres where you can roam freely. We do not grant access to the entire property because it is a working farm with livestock and farm dogs, but the guest-accessible field is grand and gorgeous. You can also enjoy farm-to-table beef and pork products with a visit to our farmstand in an old converted windmill just down the road. This setting is well known for its elevated outlook, ten-mile views, and stunning sunrises and sunsets.
