The trees here are some of the oldest around, since it was already wooded when it became owned by the state in 1923. Most other forests were only just growing into what they are now from abandoned farms. You never know what you might see in Tunxis State Forest, although we can give you some ideas. If you go for a hike through these old trees, you might spy a moose munching on foliage, or a black bear bumbling about. If that hike happens to be the Falls Brook trail, then you will certainly see a beautiful waterfall.

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.

Weekend Trip to Maple Corner Farm

This site was perfect for us! We came with our dogs and they loved running around on the trails and in the fields - the site had a picnic table and cooking area, and we grabbed firewood, eggs, maple syrup and a few other goodies from the farm stand on the way in. David and his family were amazing hosts, checking in periodically to see if we needed anything to make our stay even more comfortable. We took advantage of the permanent tent at the site and our own tents, both were super fun - we will most definitely be back again, thank you David and family!

Weekend Trip to The Sky Perch

My sister and I loved our time camping! The spot is right next to the gravel road but only the neighbor drove by (it’s a dead end road). Raven left us some wood and their neighbor came to drop off more wood for us which was very thoughtful and kind. The area is beautiful and peaceful and quiet. We missed seeing the stars bc it was cloudy, but hopefully next time! Definitely would book again :)

1 night at Kindness!

With Happiness offering a few different campsites, I chose the Palm Beach site for its location near the creek , the fire pit and the opportunity to try my hand at panning for the “shiny stuff”. The surrounding land is beautiful. Janet is very pleasant, informative and brought me a handful of Concord grapes fresh from the vine. Petting a few of the Nubian goats was a fun experience. Fantastic camping!

Janet was very kind and attentive. I messaged her about meeting the goats and she responded instantly. She made us feel welcomed and at home. And we loved on Mario, Luigi and momma LouEllen (sp?)! Nice hike in the woods in the morning.

Weekend Trip to The Sky Perch

I booked this spot very spontaneously knowing I would be roughing it but I was prepared and it turned out to be a very beautiful camping 🏕️ experience. The only sound you hear were sounds of nature, birds, chipmunks 🐿️, leaves 🍁 falling and pure magical peace. It was truly medicinal and a spiritual experience 🙏🏼🧘🏼‍♀️. Raven was responsive and her partner brought me some wood 🪵 and eggs 🥚 🥰. Another neighbor driving by asked if I needed more wood. I loved it and will be back. If you know how to camp ⛺️, you’ll love this place. Also, the farmers market in Brattleboro was like something out of a book, so quaint, crunchy, granola with delicious food! Namaste

Understanding what I was getting when booking was a little confusing because Christian picks your spot based on availability at the time and uses his best judgment based on other campers. This is actually pretty cool of him, especially given, he considers the size of the group, type of vehicle, and safety of the individual possibly, but I would definitely go in without any expectations based on photos. You may not get the same campsite you see in the photos. Either way it was beautiful and Christian is very welcoming. Would book again. The area in general is very beautiful and the trails lead to Mount Greylock. Another cool thing to know if you are new to camping is there are plenty of stores nearby so if you forgot something or something unexpected happens it’s very easy to get to a department store or pick up some groceries.

Weekend Trip to Kindness!

This was such an amazing spot! Very scenic and felt very private. The brook right at the site was truly magical. Small fish and frogs abound with some salamanders also swimming around. If you follow the brook up the hill you'll find a foundation for an old mill and there are plenty of paths which appear to be deer paths winding around the brook. So much to explore! There are chairs around the fire pit and a standard size picnic table provided. The site is mainly gravel and mostly level. The walk from the site to the parking area is very short but you'll still have to be carrying your stuff to the site so keep that in mind. I will say a surprising thing to me what that there weren't many mosquitos! I'm a mosquito magnet and it really was very minimal. I'm not saying don't bring bug repellant though! To hear the brook all night was so soothing. There was also Barred Owls hooting back and forth which was really cool to hear. Tom provided us with a large jug of potable water and sold us firewood Overall I would return and do recommend this site!

🤩 Wow! Next time I’d like to explore these trails because it’s going to take a couple days. The property is huge. If you’re having guest not from the East Coast, I’d come here to have them visit to get the true taste of New England here.

Weekend Trip to Maple Corner Farm

I had a lovely weekend. The place was perfect for my partner and I and our two dogs. We enjoyed hiking the trails and our dogs had a blast running around the fields. We will for sure be back!
