HORSES WELCOME! Why not run your horse on the beach, then come to our campsites to relax for the rest of your day. There is a fenced pasture positioned next to the sites so you can see your faithful friend enjoying some grass or hay. We have a new Zinger 29' trailer set up with a bunk room and another bedroom, full kitchen and bathroom. It can easily sleep six people. If you have your own RV, we have a full hook up at the same area. The pasture where your horse stays will also have hay, water and shelter with a run-in. This is a sanctuary for our animals. We have nine animals here, four horses (some minnies) and five donkeys (some minnies). By staying here, you will be helping us to support our animals. We are in Frankford, De which is close to all the beaches and parks. There are many shopping adventures awaiting you, either outlets or upcycle stores. If you just want to relax, there is a small pond out back stocked with bass and turtles. We have 17+ acres but we only use the front five acres and leave the rest for the deer, foxes, eagles, hawks and whatever else shows up. We believe this is Heaven on earth and would love to share it will you. So please come, stay at our farm and relax. We are here year round.

Camp in a backyard in a quiet area with a barn and horses nearby. Site 1 has water hookup and a 30 amp and 110 outlet available. Site 2 has water access and a 110 outlet available. Site 3 is for tent camping only and is more secluded. It does have water access available. These sites are a great spot to watch the sunset or watch the stars at night. These all are self contained camping spots. I do have two very friendly dogs that will most likely come say hi to you. Dewey Beer is 1 mile away in Harbeson. Lewes beach is only about 10 minutes away and Rehoboth beach is about 20 minutes away. Sports at the beach is only 5 miles away. Tanger outlets is 8 miles away. Delaware Turf sports complex is 24 miles. There are many great restaurants and shopping nearby. You can also bring your bikes and ride the bike trail from our lane to Lewes or Rehoboth! We’ve intentionally created an off-grid, calming nature experience. You’ll be surrounded by forest, open farmland and abundant wildlife. Native gardens, fruit trees, nut trees and herbs were planted near the tent areas in September 2024, offering beauty and a deeper connection to the land.
Enjoy thoughtfully placed gathering spaces throughout the forest, including a whimsical Forest Tea Party area and Uncontained, our cozy repurposed shipping container—perfect for reading, board games, or shelter during a summer pop-up thunderstorm. Walk the short Jeremiah Dixon/Charles Mason Trail, a path similar to one they would have taken in the 1700s. We love the place and spacious site. There’s a convenient store where you can easily walk and buy some stuff you need for fishing/crabbing and for any other stuffs. The site has a very good view and they have a great option to book a site with water and electricity which is great! Especially in this heat weather. We just decided to go back home for the 2nd night as the weather was too hot and we couldn’t handle it anymore. And one thing about the site, since it’s surrounded by the bay, there’s a lot of geese poop, but Katie was very accommodating. She had let us borrow the broom, so we were able to clean up those in our site. We’ll still definitely go back to that site when the weather is cooler since it has a great view and convenience to a fishing/crabbing spot!

We just spent a wonderful weekend at this private campground about 30 minutes from Ocean City, MD, and it was exactly what we needed — a peaceful nature retreat with all the right comforts! The property perfectly balances rustic charm with modern conveniences. We loved having access to clean, well-maintained bathrooms and incredibly hot showers that felt like a luxury after a day outdoors.
The owner was fantastic — super friendly, flexible, and genuinely helpful with anything we needed. It made our stay so much more enjoyable knowing we could reach out easily.
What truly made this place special was the adorable animal crew that runs the property! The goats are absolute stars — so friendly and curious that they came right up to us for pets. The chickens and the very cute duck were just as charming, wandering around and adding so much personality to the grounds. We couldn’t stop smiling every time we saw them!
The location is ideal too — close enough to enjoy a day at the beach in Ocean City or Assateague Island, then come back to relax by a fire while nature sings you to sleep. Whether you’re tent camping, in an RV, or staying in one of the mini cabins, this spot has something for everyone. Highly recommend for families, couples, or anyone looking to unplug and recharge. We’ll definitely be back!

We returned to Why Not Acres for our third stay. The camp is just perfect. It is peaceful. The owners are welcoming and helpful. Everything is clean and well maintained.
There is lots for kids to do including fishing in the pond, interacting with the rescued horses, miniature horses, donkeys and mules.
It is a 25 - 30 minute drive to downtown Ocean City which is another draw to the camp.
We loved seeing Miriam and Mike again. There are just lovely people. Very kind to our grandsons by sharing their amazing farm with them.
We can’t wait to return again in the near future!

Weekend Trip to Adventures Await Retreat & Meadery
What a fun weekend! The campground was clean and quiet. Our site had a picnic table that was shaded, large fire ring, full hook ups, and was a pull through. The kiddos loved feeding the animals, playing mini golf, swimming in the beautiful indoor salt pool, biking, hiking the clearly marked and cleared trails, playing on the shaded playground, and fishing. The kiddos caught several large bass and catfish. They also have a beautiful indoor koi pond. The store has a large selection of their meads. We enjoyed root beer, elderberry jalapeno, and elderberry lime. We also got elder elixer and elderberry soap. Our pup enjoyed the trails and the large dog park. The owner and staff were knowledgeable and so welcoming.

That's exactly what we did! And we had a great weekend! This was our 2nd visit to Why Not Acres and we hope to return again!
We brought 2 horses. There is a great paddock right near the RV sites and tent sites...fenced with a run in shed. We felt totally comfortable with the horses being safe and no risk of running away.
Assateague is only 35 minutes away, so we were able to go for the day and ride the beach and then come back for a nice campfire, dinner and relax!
Or you can ride on the property. They have trails in the woods and a good space for the horses (or the people) to stretch their legs without leaving.
Marian and Mike are such great hosts. They are wonderful people who care very much about their property, the animals in their care and of course about the experience of their visitors! Thank you so much for making our stay great!
This is an outstanding camping or RV option if you're looking for something in this area.
We really do look forward to our next visit.

Incredible views and total tranquility! We stayed in Site #4, which had a perfect, unobstructed view of the sunsets. It’s a great area to explore with a restaurant and tiki bar just down the road. Note: Site #4 is not full hookup—it has sewer access but not a dedicated port like Sites 1-3. We'll definitely stay here again!

This campsite was great. Hosts were excellent and the general store had all you could need. My first visit. Hoopers Island is definitely unique, interesting and important village to complete any tour of the Chesapeake bay.
