Learn more about this land: The Blackwater Snakehead Campsite is the perfect location for those that like to explore and experience nature when they travel. Located only 4.5 miles from Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and the Harriett Tumban National Park this campsite is the perfect match to your trip to visit Dorchester County. The campsite is perfect for "getting off the grid" and for "social distancting." But for those that wish to dine, shop, and explore Downtown Cambridge, it is only a 10 minute drive into town! The campsite is in the middle of a farm field next to a wildlife impediment, behind our farm barn and our home. For the past two years an osprey has built a nest in the field adjacent to the campsite! Thee campsite has a picnic table, fire pit, and composting toilet within an outhouse! During the summer/fall months the fields are grown up in Corn and Soybeans. During the winter/spring months, after the harvest, the fields are open. The campsite is located close to Pitcher Dam Creek, where you are welcome to put your Kayak over and fish for Snakeheads! Peaceful and access to the river

Blackwater Snakehead Campsite
We had a great time on Lisa's beautiful piece of property. The spot is in the back corner of the property and is relatively quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view to the right of a corn field and ahead and to the left is the marsh next to the river. Outhouse was clean and well maintained. It's a tall toilet for the system they use so it may be a little difficult for shorter people. The weekend was nice and quiet and even when people were working the mulch piles the noise never really bothered us. Firewood was a good deal and was nice and dry. There isn't a good entry point for kayaks next to the campsite but Lisa allowed us to put and store our kayaks by hers on the other side of the property. There are stairs for pretty easy in and out of the water. Lisa was great and very responsive. She answered questions quickly and helped us with anything we needed. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. We may also try their other property as well. Highly recommend if you are looking to just get away or kayaks and fish!

Blackwater Snakehead Campsite
It was a nice quiet grassy site. The composting toilet was appreciated. We enjoyed the fire pit and the eagles. It makes access to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge and the Harriet Tubman sites easy. The recommendations for Layton’s Chance Winery and Old Salty’s were spot on.

Campsite was clean and as described. Closest campsite I could find to Blackwater Refuge. I would definitely stay again. This is a primitive site with an outhouse, picnic table, and fire pit only.

Blackwater Snakehead Campsite
Clean composting toilet with no smell and nice 'dude wipes,' a neat bundle of nice firewood waiting in a fire pit, and, as promised, a big old osprey who was fun to watch. Great spot and convenient to Cambridge - would stay again! Note: if it isn't breezy, it's camping by water so be ready for the bugs. Luckily we had a nice breeze which kept them at bay. Also of note is that the business also includes mulch piles and (maybe?) landscaping with a lot adjacent to the camping site - I was there on a weekday so may be different on a weekend but there were work trucks coming in to load up from 6:30a and then 7-8pm. Everyone was respectful and giving space - just a note that it is not 360 remote.

Nice private feeling campsite! Didn't use outhouse as I just slept there for a little after an astronomy program and headed out early. I really enjoyed the proximity to the water and saw several great blue heron and osprey!

I came to fish in my kayak. Trying to launch my kayak was a huge problem dragging it over old pallets. The boards on the pallets broke numerous times and I sunk over my knees in mud. Would have fished later but was worried i would kill myself trying to maneuver the palleys in the dark. Felt fortunate I never hurt myself that being said I came to fish and I have never had better luck. Caught my first dragon and 2 other large snakeheads. My passion for fishing may drive me to come back but hope the pallets have been replaced.

This was my second time back at the camp, this time to dip the kayak in and explore. Fished for snakeheads and caught enough of the freak fish to satisfy my tastes. Camp was perfect and teeming with wildlife as usual.

Easy to find with provided directions. Nice, quiet spot. Definitely recommend bringing a good camera along- there's an osprey nest near by and close enough to Blackwater that ducks and a heron also made an appearance.

My group and I had a great time at the campsite. It was very clean and just as described on the website. It was very close to the water for kayak access and fishing and felt secluded enough to get away and be surrounded by nature. The host was very responsive and answered all my questions beforehand every time. I would highly recommend this campsite along with the host to anyone looking for a great time at Maryland’s eastern shore!

Wow, what beautiful place teeming with wild life. The spot was clean and level. Tucked on the back side of a farm with a creek on the backside. Eagles, osprey, red winged black birds and rabbits everywhere. A great place to base camp for a Blackwater adventure. Host was also very responsive to all my question prior to arrival. I’ll be back!

Awesome spot to stop on a trip. Quick and easy to pull in and set up, and Lisa’s directions to it are spot on. Business at the company at the front of the property wraps up early and starts early, but not until after sunrise. I would absolutely make it a stop over point again.

This was a perfect location to stop when passing through. Toilet, campfire ring and picnic table. Wonderful bird noises over night and who doesn’t love using the outhouse with a view. Ideal for early birds as the work area near bye gets going early (5:45/6:00).

Great little site. peaceful and secluded. Outhouse was clean and fire pit was ready to roll. Close to the Blackwater National Wildlife refuge. Will be staying there next weekend as well. Had an amazing sunrise with fog this morning. Will be staying there more often. Bug spray and Thermocell recommended in the hotter season staying anywhere in Dorchester County. Would stay there every trip but it does book quick for popular weekends so do not wait to long.

Blackwater Snakehead Campsite
This campsite was great! The out house was incredibly clean. The location is private but close to downtown Cambridge. There is fishing nearby and we enjoyed watching all the turtles. The hosts were very generous and left a little firewood for us. The directions were easy to follow. 10/10 would visit again if we ever need to stay in cambridge
