We loved our stay at Gracie’s Place. It’s a rustic and romantic cabin tucked in the woods, perfect for a quiet weekend escape. The host was incredibly thoughtful—he had everything we needed ready for us, including paper towels, water, firewood, and even a wine bottle opener.
The cabin itself was cozy and charming. The bed was very comfy and the personal balcony gave us a sense of tranquility, surrounded by nature. It felt peaceful and remote while still being close enough to town and stores for quick trips.
The only drawback is there’s a house nearby with a partial view into the curtainless window which took away a bit of our privacy. Still, the atmosphere was romantic and relaxing overall and we’d absolutely recommend this stay.

We had such a wonderful stay at Matt’s cabin! It perfectly blends the charm of the outdoors with the comfort of essential amenities. The setting was peaceful and secluded, surrounded by trees and nature sounds. The owner’s house was close behind but we didn’t hear any noise and everything still felt very private. He made sure we had everything we needed and showed us where to get firewood. We loved sipping coffee on the porch in the morning and stargazing by the fire at night. Even though it felt “off the grid,” everything was clean, comfortable, and easy to use — from the bathroom setup in the parking area and outdoor kitchen, to the heat/AC and hot shower! You can tell Matt put a lot of care into making guests feel welcome and at home. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway that offers both rustic charm and a touch of glamping, this cabin is it. We can’t wait to come back!

Loved staying at this little slice of heaven. Our host Matt was so accommodating and provided us with firewood and great vibes! He was great with our dog too. The cabin we stayed in was perfect - the bed was lofted with plenty of storage underneath for camp stuff. The shower had a skylight and hot water! And our view was fantastic, as the cabin is lofted up with big windows so all you can see are trees when you’re in bed. Had ac and heat, as well as a big jug of water. We will definitely be coming back, this was the perfect escape from the city. Fire pit was great too!

Matt's place is super cozy, clean, and well supplied. There's a little fire ring just outside the cabin, and the port-a-john is just a brief walk down the hill next to the parking pad. He has a countertop grill just outside the cabin that was perfect for cooking up meals.
The bed was comfortable and it was lovely to wake up with views of the trees. Matt was a warm and welcoming host and very easy to communicate with. Great spot for thru hikers, or a quick visit to the Harper's Ferry area.

We had such a wonderful experience staying here! The Matt and Bobbi went above and beyond to make our stay perfect — incredibly friendly, easy to communicate with, and available whenever we needed anything. The spot itself was ideal: peaceful, private, and exactly what we were looking for. The unit was thoughtfully set up with a super comfy bed and great AC, which made it so comfortable even on warm days. We also really appreciated that the host added a lock for extra peace of mind. You can tell they truly care about their guests having a great time. Highly recommend this Hipcamp — it deserves to be discovered!

This cabin was pure magic. Nestled in the woods just minutes from Harpers Ferry, it felt like a true retreat—but with all the comforts you could want. The host was incredibly kind and welcoming, greeting us with local recommendations and even grilling up some sausages in the evening. You can tell how much heart he’s put into the space—he built the cabin himself using recycled and reclaimed materials from the property and old homes, and it shows in every unique, thoughtful detail.
Windows on three sides make it feel like you’re sleeping in a treehouse, completely surrounded by nature. We had our coffee in the morning and watched hummingbirds just outside the window. There’s also a fire pit, cozy sleeping area, and some much appreciated AC during the heat wave.
Our dog absolutely loved it too. We spent our days tubing, hiking, and exploring the historic town of Harpers Ferry, and it was always such a joy to come back to the site.
It’s whimsical, woodsy, and wonderfully convenient—a perfect blend of adventure and serenity. We’ll definitely be back.

We stayed at this amazing tiny house during a recent bikepacking trip, and it was exactly what we needed. Clean, dry, and super cozy, with a comfortable bed, hot shower, and an inviting deck where we could relax and listen to the breeze in the trees. It feels remote enough to give you that "camping in the woods" experience, but it's still close to the main road for a quick run into town.
The space was thoughtfully set up, with everything we needed to be comfortable after a long day of riding. The bed was large and comfortable, and the hot shower was a total luxury. We loved spending time on the deck in the evening, soaking in the quiet and stars. The room even had a Keurig, and we spent a leisurely morning on the deck with coffee, serenaded by birds.
What truly made the stay exceptional was the host, Matt. He went above and beyond to make sure we had water, cooking gear, and anything else we might need. Friendly, helpful, and respectful of our space — exactly the kind of person you hope to meet on the road.
Highly recommend for any hiker, bikepacker, or traveler looking for a peaceful, well-equipped retreat in the woods. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Matt and his family were so friendly and accommodating. The cabin is quite cozy in the best way. Matt had the heat on when I arrived and the place was spotless. The shower was wonderful after a long hike…clean and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable. The only feedback I have is that the height of the bed was a bit difficult for my 5’1” self to get into and impossible for my dog. But even so, we enjoyed our stay very much!

The host was really nice! Would be cool if he got a big sign or something to mark where the site is a bit better. As in other reviews, it backed right up to his home but some curtains are provided for the window where anything could possibly be visible to your neighbors. The propane shower is what makes it. We brought our little portable potty and it was as comfortable as being at home. Bring a step stool for the bed though if you can't jump! The door to the cabin, while it locked, also did not have a key and we didn't *love* not being able to lock our dog/stuff up behind us when we went out. However most of the time when you camp, you're not bringing your greatest valuables either. It was great and we plan to come back to it in warmer months for a longer stay, awesome trip but Harper's Ferry is really too big to explore everything in just two days :)

This place is magical. If you’re used to Air bnb or Away cabins this is a perfect alternative. If you’re a tent camper, this is luxury with all of the amenities. It’s nicely secluded while being close to town. Matt is an excellent host and our city dogs loved the chance to stretch their legs. We will definitely be back soon.

Catoctin Mountain Park
Sitting on the northeast end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Catoctin Mountain Park is home to over 25 miles of hiking trails, historical sites, and camping. The park offers multiple campgrounds with tent sites and unique historic cabins and dorm rentals. Find the state’s largest waterfall along the Cunningham Falls Nature Trail, or journey through the half-mile loop Charcoal Trail to learn about the region's charcoal-making history. The west side of the park provides quiet and secluded trails where campers can traverse the Catoctin National Recreation Trail filled with historic colonial sites.
Gunpowder Falls State Park
Sail the scenic shoreline of Gunpowder River at Gunpowder Falls State Park. Sitting an hour northeast of Silver Spring, Gunpowder Falls—one of Maryland’s largest state parks—provides campers with six areas of outdoor adventure. The Hammerman Area in Middle River provides pavilions, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a swimming beach, as well as the nearby Dundee Creek Marina where boaters can access a boat launch, fuel, and rentals. Lack of on-site camping requires campers to plan ahead and explore the surrounding campgrounds, cabin rentals, and vacation cottages.
Prince William Forest Park
Venture across the border of Virginia to Prince William Forest Park. Covered by a canopy of trees, the peaceful park welcomes hiking, biking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Picnic areas offer day-use options, while overnight campers can choose from tent sites, RV sites, backcountry camping, and cabin rentals. Note that the grounds are dry sites only, and there are no hookups for RVs or trailers. The Chopawamsic Backcountry Area is perfect for secluded serenity, though campsites only hold two tents maximum and no campfires are allowed.

Late spring, summer, and early fall bring temperatures in the high 70s and 80s, ideal for campers wishing to hit the water and sleep under the stars. As cooler temperatures approach, catch the artistry of nature at work in the unforgettable fall foliage. Winter weather sees average highs around 40°F and lows that drop below freezing overnight from late November to March. Experience with cold weather camping is highly recommended, or a cabin rental for a snowy stay.
