Great synchronicity led us to the wild 30 acres of marsh and woodland that is Turtle Marsh. In addition to making a home here, we dedicating the area as a sanctuary for the quiet enjoyment of nature, eco-spiritual practices and healing. We are now recognized by the World Wildlife Fund as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.
We have trails on the property that are designed for contemplative walks, along with several benches where you can sit in quiet enjoyment, undisturbed by human intrusions.
There are several trailheads for the Hills to Sea Trail within a mile of our property. The quintessential New England waterfront town of Belfast on Penobscot Bay, is less than 30 minutes away. One of our favorite spots for quiet hikes along the shore of the bay, is Sears Island. It is one of the largest undeveloped islands on the east coast, that is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The island is 50 minutes away and even on the busiest summer days, its's usually possible to find a quiet spot on the shore to sit and reflect.
As we continue to deepen our relationship with this land, we are trying to follow the principles of Deep Ecology in all of our interactions. Our tentsites, while only a 5 minute walk from the road, have been sited to offer as much solitude as possible, with minimal disruption to the surroundings.
For 2025 we are opening a new site. It is a little more secluded, 2-3 minutes further from the road in a very quiet wooded niche, at the edge of the marsh. It is also a little smaller tent (10' diameter) situated on a platform, and a little more "camping" than "glamping". We are pricing the stay there according.
In spite of being nestled in the woods, no trees were cut to prepare these relatively accessible sites. We believe that they still offer a very tangible sense of wildness and solitude.

We invite you to come stay at our location in the Western Maine mountains. We are located off of the Long Falls Dam Rd in Carrying Place Township, in the heart of Maine's wilderness. Our property offers beautiful mountain views; many nearby hiking trails; nearby swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking at Flagstaff Lake; along with numerous back roads to explore and look for wildlife. Our sites sit behind a locked gate that is monitored 24/7 with a security camera. Also, although we are remote, we do offer Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Please take note that our sites are remote. We may be right off a paved road, but the closest town with a store is a half an hour drive. Also be mindful that this is the Maine wilderness, there are wild animals that frequent our location, along with biting insects such as deer flies and mosquitoes. This truly is a beautiful location, but please be sure to pack accordingly for your stay.

Welcome to a privately owned 200+ acre haven with miles of dirt roads to explore. This land is intended to help folks get back to the basics. Camping in Maine used to mean packing up the rig, grabbing the Maine Gazetteer and driving around until you found a vacant public campsite. Sadly, those public sites are rarely vacant anymore and you need to plan well in advance to reserve an ideal site at a state campground. Public campgrounds serve their purpose but they don't offer the backwoods camping experience that so many families enjoy. So, my family would like to introduce you to Jay Birds Way. Conveniently located at the top of Murray Street and only a couple minutes from downtown Bingham. The winding dirt roads are perfect for a bike ride or hike. Watch your dog flush a partridge or your little ones explore beautiful Jackson brook. Quiet solitude is what you will find here. There are no motorized sports allowed on this property. Sorry, but ATV access is not available.
North Country Rivers is only 5 minutes away for your rafting experience or to visit Patrick's Pub. Wyman lake has a wonderful public swimming area and boat launch 15 minutes away in Pleasant Ridge and the Bingham Kennebec River boat launch is just a few minutes away. Bingham in centrally located to some of western Maine's favorite destinations such as Rangely, Sugarloaf, Flagstaff Lake, Jackman and beautiful Moosehead Lake.

This was a great cabin! Had everything we needed and kept us nice and warm through the night. Jamin was super helpful in showing us how to get to the cabin when we arrived in the dark. Did some fishing and was perfect for our two nights. We were there in mid November and were so grateful he kept the cabin running for us.

Really unique and amazing stay, can't recommend this place enough! Learned about three medicinal mushrooms that grow on the property through the walks with Peter and Willie. Some neat evidence of beaver activity was spotted as well. You can hear barn owls in the evening. If you did get any rain or wind while there it's rather pleasant. Was nice to know if you do need anything the cabin and Peter were a short walk away. I even got Peters book which I can't wait to read!

Weekend Trip to The Bird's Nest-Private Tiny House
I had the BEST two nights staying at the Bird’s Nest! It was so beautiful and cozy. The weather held out long enough to enjoy walking through the trails on the property, and building a fire in the wood stove was perfect for the rainy and chilly evening. Lisa is a wonderful host and put so much thought into everything one might need while staying here. I hope to be back again soon!

They offer anything that you are looking for in outdoor accommodations. From a spacious RV site, (or in our case, a full size school bus) to a tent site for the more adventurous, to a cozy cabin with many amenities to make your stay more comfortable. Orange Gate Sites is clean, has ready to burn firewood, sturdy fire pits that you can even cook your meals on, and clean outdoor toilets. What an awesome spot! The Birds Nest doesn’t disappoint. The Nest sits on the same property as the owner but it’s far enough away that you can’t even see anything. Such a magical little cabin with an awesome wood stove that will keep you more than cozy. Everything was nice and clean/tidy….the outhouse was the same.
Amazing location for hiking.
World class fly fishing in the Carrabassett River not far away.
Me and the ole girl and I can’t wait to come back!!

Camping on Amber's land was exactly as described - quiet and absolutely stunning! The brook was still running in a few places during our stay giving a little background noise, and we had some turkeys swing in for a visit right before we headed out on our last day. Exploring the roads through the property was peaceful and well worth it. All of the little extras for starting a fire and camping comfortably were very much appreciated. I highly recommend this spot for anyone who wants to get away but still stay near town and connected!

Lisa was amazing about communicating before and during my trip. She was also super helpful on directing me to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The Brid's Nest was exactly as described, and. a fun cabin to stay in. It is a little bit of a walk up to the cabin, but there is a wagon to help load up your suitcases. Sunrise through the trees the next morning was absolutely beautiful along with my drive to my next destination. If you don't mind glamping without the extra fluff, I recommend staying here!

Sweet little cabin in the woods! Jamin was super accommodating and even built an outside fire for us prior to arrival. More spacious than you might think for a small cabin. We opted not to use the generator but it was nice to have that option. We enjoyed staying here as a launch point for the weekend of the Common Ground fair just up the road in Unity. Felt very cozy and private. Could be great for a small group of people or just a couple like us.

Weekend Trip to Turtle Marsh- secluded wooded site.
Due to impending weather, we had to change our plans and make a last minute booking. The site was perfect for us. The property is beautiful with a network of small trails crisscrossing it. The site is peaceful and private, and even during a significant downpour we were able to stay dry in the canvas bell tent.
Peter is everything you could want in a host. He went out of way to be helpful, he's friendly, genuine, and responsive to communication, while still respecting his guests space and privacy. Plus his dog is the best!
We would highly recommend staying here.

If you haven't been here you are all missing out!! This is one of the BEST camp sites for tenting i have been to. Danyl and Alpha are absolutely WONDERFUL hosts too!! If you want privacy and have the real authentic feel of camping I would suggest this place! Depending on where you book on site, we had the View and could see not only Sugarloaf mountain but, the stars at night were absolutely breathtaking. The sky was so open with the landscape of mountains in the background. The camp has a series of little outlets to actually spread your stuff out so its doesnt feel cramped. The porta potty is super clean and the town is a half hour for all your needs! My partner and I will definitely be coming back as regulars and this is now one of my favorite places to camp! Book now! This hipcamp was perfect for our overnight stay before climbing Little Bigelow the next day (the trailhead was only 4 minutes from our campsite!). Great communication, and easy to find and check in. The only drawback is that there wasn't a large flat surface to pitch our tent, so we ended up on sloping ground, which wasn't ideal. Other than that, highly recommend!

100% would recommend! The sites are very private, the location is beautiful, the view from “The View” is breathtaking! The owners have done a great job making you feel like you’re taken care of without being in your face, from the solar string lights on the path to the bathroom to the binder full of maps and things to do in the region, they really thought of everything. If you like disbursed, private, rural camping this is the place!

The hosts Alpha & Danyl were so helpful even before I booked the site. I was experiencing difficulties with the app and they walked me through.
The site "The view" is aptly named.
The site worked well for my 4x8 trailer with roof top tent and 10x10 ez-up screen room, leaving plenty of room remaining.
The fire pit had an adjustable grilling grate that could be swung out of the way. The porta potty was clean and the perfect distance from the site. One bundle of wood and a bag of kindling provided with site and more available for purchase, as well as fire starters.
Verizon phone had 3 bars of service.
My favorite part aside from the view was the privacy, didn't see or hear another person all night.
Will definitely stay here again when I am in the area.

We prepare and we plan, and this spot provides! An absolute secluded spot (only a whisper of in town noises) a platform that held up our rain tent and more than enough room to find coverage under the trees for our tent! With nothing less than a spring/summer nor’easter for our first camping trip of the year. We planned for the worst, and got the best! A small enclosure for the wood we found in town, a fire ring, and an absolutely outstanding outhouse.
We are far from glamping people, so we don’t mind a few things that we have to accommodate for. But holy moly, does this one take the cream of the crop with our 40+ years combined…when it’s time to go, you want this one.
Bring your potable water and that’s all you’ll need!
Will absolutely recommend and stay again!

Weekend Trip to Turtle Marsh- secluded wooded site.
Turtle Marsh hipcamp is exactly as pictured, serene and beautiful, nestled in the woods. I particularly enjoyed falling asleep to the frog song from the marsh!
I stayed here after a concert at the Waterville Opera House and found it very easy. Peter has very thoughtfully placed reflectors on several trees for those arriving at night. And while it rained during my stay, the bell tent kept me dry as a bone. What a luxury!!!
