Absolutely loved my stay at the Backwoods Hideaway! The perfect little spot to getaway! I loved listening to all the sounds of nature, rocking away on the porch encapsulated in a good book, reading by candlelight and listening to the whipporwills and sounds of the creek flowing falling to sleep! Couldn't asked for a better escape to relax and recharge! Thank you Aaron and family for opening up your lovely cabin for all to enjoy!

Very nice clean campground. It had rained a lot before we got there and it was still wonderful. There were no other campers there as I believe this is somewhat off season. They have bands there on weekends during season. I will be staying there if I go back to red river again. Host is fantastic. You won't regret your choice. Oh yeah, the bathroom facilities for primitive camping.. VERY NICE. Flush toilets and I came in at around 2am with 0 problems. Host did come down to check on us in the morning and was around during departure.

As a seasoned hipcamper, this has to be my favorite site so far. Kim and Scott were beyond amazing hosts. They started a fire for us and provided so many accommodations due to the crazy weather during our stay. They are so friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for somewhere that is central to all of the best hikes that Red River Gorge has to offer, this is the ideal site. I will absolutely be booking at the Kilns again.

What’s not to love about camping just a short walk from an incredible brewery? Turtleback Ridge Farm is a fantastic host for the Kentucky Open Road Race Series, and I had the privilege of camping there the night before a race. Although the weather was dreary and the rain relentless, the property still offered a peaceful, spacious spot to pitch a tent and rest up undisturbed. I didn’t get to fully appreciate the farm’s beauty this time, but I’m already looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommend to anyone in search of a laid-back, convenient campsite in the area!

I had a great time visiting on a solo trip with my dog! Everything was clean and enjoyable, and the creeks are pretty to walk along. If you're visiting in March/April, make sure to look at upcoming weather for potential storms. We got caught in an overnight thunderstorm, which made the creek water rise and was not passable for my low car (Ford Fusion Hybrid). We ended up having to stay an extra night, but it all worked out well! The host was understanding, a fellow camper shared their food, and Jon was responsive and super helpful! We would definitely visit again.

Weekend Trip to Backwoods Hideaway

Such a cool place. So nice to be off-grid to just be in nature. I enjoyed putting my phone down and just hanging out by the creek. Felt like a good brain reset, and cabin was so cozy.

My sin and I enjoyed our stop at Barts property. The scenery was gorgeous. He fetched some firewood fornme and his wife brought kinding. Their son incuded mine in a morning walk down to the creek and to a neighbors place to explore. The composting toilet was awesome. No smell and it was clean and peaceful. It was an added bonus to have a covered outdoor kitchen/seating area with a fresh spring water sink, ample counter space, table, stools, and electricity. Bonus an electric tea kettle! There was a box with maps, guides, and other goodies for guests. There was a crazy hard trail up the mountain behind the site that was steep and slippery. The view was worth it. We will definitely be back.

Our property, Plantasia, is thirty-five acres of hardwood forest, lined with limestone boulders and sandstone cliffs, the occasional old growth tree, and mineral springs pouring out pure delicious water. The rest of the property is an old Appalachian homestead, featuring organic gardens and orchards, two farm cats and one farm dog, bee hives, and a flock of domestic ducks. The stewards are Phil, Sacha, three year-old Aurora, and baby Arthur. We are particularly keen to welcoming other families and/or folks who live in relative sobriety. The springs feed into creeks which criss-cross the wildflower meadow, creating spaces to splash and explore with the minnows, crawdads, frogs, snakes, and whoever else you might find. To the interest of fossil hunters and rock hounds, the creeks are packed with geodes, agates, and relics of an age when Plantasia was the ocean floor (~250 million years ago). Down the road, the trailhead of one of Kentucky's greatest waterfalls, Anglin Falls, is within walking distance (though you can also drive there and park). Plantasia is also a short drive from Berea, the folk art capital of Kentucky, which features plenty of local shops and restaurants, as well as some beautiful trails on the outskirts of town (Brushy Fork for a relaxing stroll, or the Pinnacles for a big majestic hike).

Our seasonal bath house is generally open from April or May to October or November based on the prevailing temps. There are 4 flush toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 hot showers. The floors are concrete so we recommend shower shoes and you'll want to bring your own towels and shampoo/soap. The farm has a small playground, yard games, creeks, and a steep and rugged hiking trail that loops the mountain. We're also just 8 miles from the hiking trails at the Berea College Pinnacles, 8 miles to Owsley Fork Reservoir, 20 minutes to Anglin Falls, 12 miles to Berea, 35 minutes to Richmond, Ky, and a scenic hour to Red River Gorge. For other activities, restaurants, shopping, music, and more, we're happy to share our favorites, but highly recommend checking out the Berea Tourism website.

Loving Farm is a 6 acre working flower farm and nature preserve in the heart of Nepton, Kentucky (within Ewing). Bordered by Johnson Creek and a railroad, supposedly being revived. TBD. Marietta and Perriee (aka, "The Girls") are a happily married couple who are the current caretakers of the land and live in the house on the property. Half of the property, along the creek, is currently being nature-scaped after not mowing it since 2022. Since then, we have been maintaining mowed pathways and planting seeds, trees, and vegetables that can be found in pockets along the way. The revitalization has led to a resurgence of sunchokes, golden rod, and other native species, in addition to some ragweed, which we have been managing diligently as the space matures. Camp sites are located in this part of the property, mostly along the creek. We also have a White Duck bell tent that is on a deck that overlooks the trails, which can be reserved as well. Our home is also on the property, along the railroad, where our more cultivated gardens are located. We have cats and ducks on the property and appreciate not having other animals from guests, out of respect for their comfort. There is a porta-potty on site and a Trelino composting toilet for guest use in the flower studio bathroom. The flower studio has a bathtub and is plumbed with city water. Cold water is available from an outdoor spigot 24-7. This space is used by Perriee and Marietta for flower storage, seed starting, and baking for events and will remain accessible to guests while staying for the use of bathroom. We would ask you not cook or store food in the kitchen as we use it for business purposes, but the space does have an air conditioner in the event someone needs to cool off. Regardless, it is likely that you will run into another guest here, and cross paths with one of us while working in the studio during the day. The Nepton Warehouse, located on the property, is visible from the road and is used for events here on the farm. We will let you know if an event will be happening during your stay in the event that you want to come during a quieter time. Nepton is a great community with the rural feel you are looking for if you want to camp in nature but be a little closer to people. Cars pass, the hospital is close, but the cicadas hum, the stars are bright, and the sky is big and beautiful. Be sure to check out the following attractions if you are interested in something to do while here: Turtleback Ridge Brewery (also on Hipcamp for an overnight), Yoder's Dinner Bell Market, look for the Honey sign around the corner at Ellessare Farm, stop at Nepton Greenhouse and say hello to Nancy and Daniel, and of course shop at the Fleming County Farmer's Market during the season (open Tuesday evening and Saturday mornings).

We have two gas powered john boats that can be rented in addition to your camper with a signed waiver but feel free to bring your own kayaks , or smaller fishing type boats. ( no yachts or pontoons ) There are miles of river to be explored with lots of amazing natural beauty. The Kentucky river has a great variety of fish for your chasing, large and small mouth bass, walleye, muskie, drum, pan fish an abundance of nice size channel cats which are so much fun to catch. Talk to me nice and I might give you some tips. There is so much here you will have to come and see for your self. FYI gang plank going down to the dock is steep so depending on your physical condition the dock may not be accessible to you.

One must be limber and able to climb on hands and knees to reach the four single beds. Claustrophobics beware - The highest point in the loft is 3 feet. We do offer a pull out sofa bed if the loft isn't appealing. We do have an alarm system in the tiny house that will be disarmed during your stay. We do ask that guests not attempt to arm the system. If it is set off, the police will automatically be called and come for a visit. We have it for long periods of time where our tiny house is unattended. We have multiple outdoor cameras that will be recording 24/7 during your stay. We only pull the video if a problem arises. Per our insurance-We love all dogs, but our insurance company says no to Akitas, American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bulls), Chows, Presa Canarios, Rottweilers, Shar-peis, Wolf Hybrid, Mixed with predominately with a listed breed) No exotic animals or any animals that display aggressive behavior. We allow ONE dog under 70 lbs. If you bring a dog- pick up the waste from yard.
