This ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2026, camping here provides a glimpse into the 5th year of succession, which is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie that is flanked by the rocky and steep slopes of a mature forest.
Pet friendly and most likely a good fit for self-sufficient types that like campsites with generous spacing, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve.
All sites except Spicebush have a filtered water output. Spicebush campers will have water access next to parking.
Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~530 seedlings as of March 2026), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species.
A nice way to experience Mammoth Cave NP is to break the trip into 3 layers, covering the underworld (cave tours), upper world (hiking), and the water that connects the two (Green River). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space where we imagine what is beneath the surface and how these worlds are linked, while above ground hiking on land or kayaking on the ecologically rich and biodiverse Green River. Kayaking the Green is elemental; like unplugging from one world, pure nature immersion. We offer kayaks (see extras), that leave from camp, tailored to your schedule.

If you're looking for a place to camp this summer in Warren County, look no further. Here at Old Martinsville Trail Camp, we offer several campsites for your family and friends to enjoy. Our property spans more than 23 acres of forest and open meadows and borders the West Fork of Drakes Creek. Between our upper and lower fields, you can still walk along the old horse-and-buggy trail that once led to the "lost city" of Martinsville.
No matter where you choose to camp on the property, all guests have access to the creek and hiking trails. We ask that you be mindful and respectful of other visitors who may be staying at the same time. The creek is a shared area, and tents are not permitted on the gravel along the water's edge. Please set up camp along the field borders or in the wooded areas.
We are just 15 minutes south of Bowling Green and only a 10-minute drive from the nearest gas station and Dollar General. We do not offer Wi-Fi, and cell phone service can be very limited near the creek. You may need to go to the end of the driveway—or even the end of the road—to get a signal. We hope you'll enjoy the opportunity to disconnect and relax.
In the event of an emergency, we are available at the house if you need to use a phone to call 911. We do not provide restroom facilities, so please bring a camping toilet if desired. If you choose to use the property for bathroom needs, please be respectful, leave no trash behind, and either bury waste properly with a shovel or pack it out with your trash.
Our campsites are primitive, with no running water or electricity. Fire pits are not provided, but campfires are permitted when conditions allow. We do not provide firewood, and guests are responsible for checking local burn restrictions before lighting a fire. During active burn bans in Warren County, all fires are prohibited.
Be sure to bring insect repellent, such as OFF!® or mosquito spray. We do our best to keep the grass around the campsites trimmed. As with any natural setting, please watch for snakes in and around the water, especially near brush piles and fallen wood.
Pets are welcome if they are friendly and well-socialized. Please keep pets on a leash whenever other guests or dogs are nearby unless all animals are comfortable and get along well.

Loved the place. So peaceful, quiet and scenic.
Since it was quite muddy because it had been rainy, we stayed at another camp site which had an incredibly beautiful view on the lake, and a small hill behind that made it feel very private.
Hosts were kind, attentive and welcoming, and the domain is well kept and safe. We enjoyed the sporadic company of their dog, and also appreciated very much the clean restrooms and showers. (Yes, also had hot water ) Wifi is also available around the premices, which proves practical if we needed it occasionnally.
Jeffrey’s cliff is a local hike you can do, it about 20 mins away. It was a recommended by the host. Some of the highlights of our stay were seeing a giant owl and also many hummingbirds around the main house.
Highly recomend for peaceful campers that are fond of nature and scenic surroundings.

Chuck and Val were such kind hosts. Tar springs was truly beautiful and the tent camp sights were perfect couldn’t even tell others were around us camping. We were camping 10 ft from the water and we caught some good fish ! Caught a 13 lb channel cat. The bathrooms were beautifully done and such a great amenity would recommend this place to anybody!!

We loved staying at Riney Farm! It was a short 6 mile drive from I-65, making it convenient for a stop for the night, which is what we did. I only booked the site two hours before our arrival. It's a pull through site with a wide area in which to turn out upon leaving. April warned us about their peacocks being loud at night since it's their brooding season, but they never once disturbed us. I would come here again if I was passing through the area.

I had booked this site planning around a hospital stay of family. My grandson decided he wanted to choose his own birthday and come a week early and Bobby and Courtney were very accommodating and worked with me in moving dates around, allowing me to come a week early. They met me at check in and gave great hospitality and instruction on the site utilities. I had zero issues the entirety of the stay, it's quiet and off the road with no issues. Trash is also close by and very conveniently staged on the entry road. I will most definitely return to this location as I visit that area often.

As beekeepers we were excited to find Bee Springs Kentucky and Bee Happy Campground. Roomy camping sites though our camper is only 16 feet there were bigger ones there with plenty of room. It was clean and quiet and Christie is very responsive. The clear night sky made for some great stargazing and pictures on top of the hill.

Our family had a FANTASTIC time at Tar Springs 2 with Chuck and Van. What a beautiful place! Everything was so clean and the sites were well spread out. The lake was perfect for fishing and the paddle boats were available for use. With water and firewood readily available it made things very convenient. The guest restrooms and showers were IMMACULATE! We felt so welcomed by them and their lovely pets! We were fortunate enough to be there during their Fall Festival and enjoyed the great bluegrass music in their outdoor stage, the food truck, and the fireworks. Really, nothing is more peaceful than watching the cows roam across the land while you sip your coffee by the open fire. Even with many sites filled, there was still a sense of quiet and being secluded. We really enjoyed this trip and are planning to (at least!) go back in the fall to enjoy the Sacagawea festival in September! Book this. What a beautiful place to rest your busy soul. Thank you, Chuck and Van. We can't wait to see how big the kitties get!

Amazing place. Omg just beautiful. We stayed up the hill under the cliff so awesome. Very very cool place. Gemma and I (that’s my German Shepherd) went hiking around and we loved it. Easy hike either direction but totally amazing-must do. Chuck is very cool, they both super good people and I truly thought the world of them in a matter of minutes. Very clean well taken of property. Facilities were all there and very clean. Probably won’t camp anywhere else unless leaving the state. I have to go back to experience the beautiful lake. Yes my brother and my older son showed up the next day and we a great time, setting around the fire telling stories. Best camping spot around.

Loved this site! We arrived after sunset and our host called and offered us mag lights if we needed them. It is so nice and dark you can see soooo many stars! We arrived and just stargazed for awhile, we stargazed both nights actually. Our hosts were so nice! Super close to Mammoth Cave National Park! It looks like there’s a lot to do in the area, different caves and what not, unfortunately we didn’t have time for all those. I wish I took more pictures too.
