Weekend Trip to Savvy Retreat

This is, by far, the nicest campsite (Hipcamp or otherwise) I have ever been to, and I've been camping since childhood. The host's attention to detail in the beauty and amenties of the site are obvious. One word of caution, do not use Waze for GPS to the site, or you will get very, very heckin lost down dead-end dirt roads (not fun). Use the host's directions to supplement Google for GPS. Google will at least get you on the correct roads where you can then follow both the host's directions and signs to this beautiful site.

2 nights at Plantasia Homestead at Anglin Falls

This place was exactly what I was looking for when I wanted to get away. The area is so quiet, so peaceful even my 14 yr old boy wanted to talk quietly. The campsight was clean, the tent on a raised platform under cover. The spring water was so good my son, who is picky, drank it all the time. We loved the hills and quiet. Town is close enough if desired. This is a place to be at peace and center yourself before coming back to life elsewhere. We cant wait to come back.

6 nights at Savvy Retreat

Our second stay at this wonderful spot! We will definitely be back. Full hook up, available firewood, excellent WI-FI, a toilet so you don't have to in the camper. Secluded to the point you almost feel like you're the only one around. An excellent pull though site.

We have camped here several times and always have a great time! Our dogs love it to! The site feels so secluded and remote, like we have the farm to ourselves. And yet it is a quick and easy drive to everything Lexington has to offer!

2 nights at Bourbon Trail Campground

We had a great time camping at Bourbon trail camp! It was very private (we were the only ones there to my knowledge) and super close to distilleries we were visiting. Hosts were very accommodating upon arrival and throughout our stay. Nice little creek to help cool off as well. Few things to be aware of: (did not prevent us from enjoying our time!) 1. Fairly close to the road and train so some loud noises from there can be heard. 2. There are dogs around (owner and neighbors) which roam and may bark at you but will also go away if you tell them. They were fine with our dog being on property as well. 3. There is not much shade (open field camping for the most part) and the land has some hills so great spots may be limited especially when it’s hot. They do have flat spaces carved out but the shade was the more limiting factor for us during our hot summer trip. 4. Due to camping in grass, we had a few more bugs and ticks than experienced elsewhere. Very easy to manage with common practice, but make sure to bring thermacell. Despite the few notes above (trying to help future campers!), we had a wonderful time and will be back!

I loved camping on Phil's land and would definitely recommend it to others. The tent platform was great, and we loved that there was spring water pumped directly to the campsite. The campsite and bathroom were both clean and well kept, and felt like a safe location. Phil was very welcoming and helpful to us when we arrived. My partner and I enjoyed seeing all the animals on the property, and loved watching the millions of fireflies light up the trees and meadow across from the campsite.

This place was amazing and Jennifer was so nice and accommodating. As a first time solo camper I felt very safe and relaxed. Definitely plan on camping there again.

1 night at Wildcat Creek Farm in Tyrone

Camping on Kevin’s land was an awesome way to end my trip! Kevin was incredibly helpful in picking out my site for the night and showing me all around the farm. The location on the river was awesome for a nice fire at night and to really feel at home with the nature of the area. The farm animals that would visit during the stay was also a very fun part of the stay. Very awesome spot!

We loved our time at Keven’s place! The animals were so fun to see roaming around- our kids got a huge kick out of it. The creek was fun to hike in and kept us cool. Keven was great about checking in, but giving us our space.

My wife, three boys and our dog really enjoyed our camping trip and meeting Keven! He was so hospitable and was so helpful in making sure we had a great time. We picked the campsite closest to the creek as our boys wanted to explore and hike with our pup. Even with the heat wave, our boys had a great time with all the mini-horses, donkeys and “Kong” (you’ll have to visit to learn about that 😁). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and thank you, Keven!

We had a great time exploring the property & were amazed that such a place exists so close to the city. It’s the perfect place if you have an event in Lexington. Creek Peek is a very spacious site and feels secluded despite being just a short walk into the woods. We especially enjoyed the shade and ambiance of the creek! The bathroom is a plus & the hosts were super friendly. Thank you!!

I had a wonderful stay tent camping on the electrical stage. The shade provided by the roof, flat ground, and three walls surrounding my tent made for a perfect site to set everything up! Having outlets on the walls at this site was a really nice added perk. This hosts land is very nicely maintained, they provided wonderful amenities such as Porta potties, spigot water, a fire pit, an indoor toilet, and a hot water shower. The communication was great. Detailed directions to the property were sent to me before my arrival, and any questions I had were answered clearly and promptly. Given the easy and short 15 minute drive to city and the amazing experience I had while staying here, I will definitely be back again when visiting Lexington!

3 nights at Farm and Forest

Perfect camping location to visit Lexington. Only 15 minutes from Rupp arena, but secluded on a farm. Worth noting that our site in particular was a great option if you do not need power. While the grass was tall during our visit, it was out of the control of the host as Kentucky had non-stop storms for the preceding week. The entire state had tall grass during our visit, so we were not surprised and nothing an outdoor rug didn't solve. We are only the third review on this particular site (Water with a View) but I would recommend it. It is very private. While the description may give you the impression you are on the road, you are really about 150 yards away. Not only that, there is a bank of trees right by your site giving you privacy. We really didn't even notice the road. There was plenty of space for us (18 ft RV) and the double farm gates makes it very easy to pull in and out. Truly, if visiting downtown Lexington or catching an event at Rupp Arena, you will not find a better option for camping/RVing.

This place checked all the boxed for us. I brought my 7 yo here and he was able to play in the creek and catch crawdads while I set up camp. Then, I helped him catch some crawdads, and we eventually took a dip in the bigger creek, which was refreshing on a very hot day. The site was also shady and private--you can see a house up on a hill if you walk onto the bridge, but it isn't close enough to see people clearly. The host was very responsive. Remember to turn your phone off of roaming (or heck, just turn it off), as it will drain the battery when you are in camp. I got service once I was back up on the road. I would come back here again, for sure.

7 nights at Savvy Retreat

We stayed an entire week at Savvy’s and it was absolutely perfect. The entire property was SO clean and well kept. Cristhian and Christy thought of everything! From the spotless bathroom, to the board games and lawn games, the picnic table, beautiful firepit and most of all the porch swing! We spent hours swinging! The biggest bonus was the shelter that we were able to park our camper and truck under. It’s very large, and it is elevated, so it allowed us to be outside during every rainstorm! We would absolutely recommend Savvy’s, and we plan to come back. Also, we found two amazing waterfalls less than half an hour away. Both are worth the hike!

For insurance purposes and the safety of our own livestock and pets, we do not allow guests to bring their pets/ESAs onto the property. Prepare to UNPLUG as we do not have cell service or wifi (there IS a landline for guests to make phone calls located in the Community Farmhouse). All guests from tent to treehouse have access to our solar-powered Community Farmhouse featuring a fully-stocked chef-inspired kitchen, restrooms, coin-op laundry, and upstairs multi-purpose room with a library and board games. There is also an outdoor kitchen area with additional cooking space including a grill, microwave, and sink (sink is closed in the winter so the pipes don’t freeze). Next to the Farmhouse is a massive pavilion with picnic tables for al fresco dining and firewood bundles to purchase. BRING CASH! Our seasonal bath house is generally open from April or May to October or November based on the prevailing temps. There are 4 flush toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 hot showers. The floors are concrete so we recommend shower shoes and you'll want to bring your own towels and shampoo/soap. The farm has a small playground, yard games, creeks, and a steep and rugged hiking trail that loops the mountain. We're also just 8 miles from the hiking trails at the Berea College Pinnacles, 8 miles to Owsley Fork Reservoir, 20 minutes to Anglin Falls, 12 miles to Berea, 35 minutes to Richmond, Ky, and a scenic hour to Red River Gorge. For other activities, restaurants, shopping, music, and more, we're happy to share our favorites, but highly recommend checking out the Berea Tourism website.

A 4WD vehicle will be necessary for anyone pulling an RV as we have had at least one guest get stuck halfway up the hill when exiting with a two-wheeled truck with a V8 engine pulling a small RV. In addition, you will likely need a brake-control system installed for coming down the hill. Front-wheel drive vehicles with high clearance should be satisfactory to cross the bridge and exit the steep hill as long as you are not pulling an RV. Mark Twain is the camper you are renting at River Run Retreat, River Run is a private retreat we share with our guest. It is a picturesque, just a beautiful water front property. It is 3 + acre property with a huge open field for whatever you like as long as you dont do serious damage to the grass. Football, baseball, volley ball, corn hole what ever makes you happy. A multitude of huge mature trees, making it such a beautiful setting and providing lots of shade for just hanging out or relaxing. Swings, slides and playsets for the little ones. For the water enthusiast and serious fisherman River Run has its own private dock with two slips and the ability to dock several boats around the perimiter. We have two gas powered john boats that can be rented in addition to your camper with a signed waiver but feel free to bring your own kayaks , or smaller fishing type boats. ( no yachts or pontoons ) There are miles of river to be explored with lots of amazing natural beauty. The Kentucky river has a great variety of fish for your chasing, large and small mouth bass, walleye, muskie, drum, pan fish an abundance of nice size channel cats which are so much fun to catch. Talk to me nice and I might give you some tips. There is so much here you will have to come and see for your self. FYI gang plank going down to the dock is steep so depending on your physical condition the dock may not be accessible to you.

Patchouli Farm’s Primitive Retreat

Looking for a quiet slice of Kentucky! This 56-acre property is located in the outskirts of Livingston in Rockcastle County. There is ample space for tents, hammock tents or open-air camping. The property has about 3/4 of a mile of road frontage on a quiet road with a few good pull off spots, two natural springs, and lots of wildlife. Gently hilly with two hollows, remnants of old logging roads throughout and a near vertical rock wall to its northern end. The woods are mixed hardwoods and persimmon, with planted pawpaw trees. Great for hiking, seasonal foraging, and a bit of bush-whacking for the more adventurous. There are two RESTRICTED structures on site: one old unlivable hunting cabin and a 12 x 20 rustic shed that should not be bothered. There is lots to do in the area. Spelunkers can check out Pine Hill Cave a few miles away from the property. Livingston has begun to grow and is offers local kayaking excursions. There is a large 4-wheeling park and Camp Wildcat civil war battle site not far away. Wood Creek lake and Lake Linville about 20 minutes away and Lakes Cumberland and Laurel under hour.

Test your off-grid skills but beware of some of the more dangerous local wildlife. NO FIRES. NO GUNFIRE. NO FIRES. There are 2 designated camping areas creekside, see the property map for locations. Vehicles must stay before the gate at AREA 1. Mind the 8' clearance at the access road! Larger vehicles may want to stay at AREA 1. AREA 2 is behind the gate and is accessible by foot only. The access road gets you close to the gate to park. This area is in the process of being cleared for better access but can be used already. Be safe and have fun exploring!
